Can I please have your assistance in designing a 25th Anniversary theme XB Lightning?? I need color idea's and design. I thought the best way would be for us to have a go round right here on this thread. Tell what you think would look cool. Or even show it if you can. New Anony approved. Anonymous, I have wanted, but never got around to it, to build up my 12S in the spirit of the American International Racing colors. White with dual light blue stripes down the middle. Alum. or white wheels. I think it fitting for the only real American sport bike. Leo |

Anonymous!!! you must be a big wig :-) I say use a pretty royal blue paint outlined in white, with the numbers 25 on each side of the tank and front screen. Much like of an older race car, how they would circle the number (speed racer??) (no buell decal on this one) Have a good amount of the Buell team sign a same color helmet to be placed with the bike on display In the seat have a large pegasus stitched in. In place of the decal in the cheese grater have a decal thats states 25TH anniversary or maybe Erik's autograph in that same metal type that the stock ones have. make the wheels solid white with the royal blue pin stripe. and paint the calipers same royal blue. and Paint frame and swingarm glossy black Just my thoughts! Oh then you could let me borrow it for a week or two :-) -robert hall (Message edited by rah7777777 on December 05, 2007) |

Yes, I like the idea of Red, White, and Blue. That seems most fitting being an American Sportbike. Isn't a 25th Anniversary silver..... All chrome with a polished frame could be cool. |

Why not a red/white/blue ala stars and stripes bike? Kinda between Evel Kinevel's bikes and Peter Fonda's(without the chrome of course!) I remember the stars and stripes Bell helmets from back then, they were kinda cool too! |

I like the way Corvette did their millionth car, just like the first. Decide which of the first Buells was/is the epitome of Buell, the one everyone has seen or thinks of and do the same paint scheme. Park 'em side by side for the promo pics. |

The 25th Anniversary paint scheme would be completely incomplete without a heavy pegasus influence. American--Definitely RW&B! Any way you can work blood, sweat, and tears into the theme? Something that conveys the journey and the emergence of the pegasus from the tumult into the light. |

I see in my head an XBs, white for all the plastics; a big race stripe all the way down the body, offset to the left, with the flag pattern printed on it (all the way down the body again) with the border strips solid red. On the front windscreen, the Pegasus badge, over the stripe (where the Lightning logo was). On the airbox cover, the Buell logo, with the blue background area done in [stars&stripes], again, stamped over the stripe. And finally, on the very outside of the rim, where most people do polish, a few pressed pegasus logos or flag pattern. The center of the wheel in polish or all white, of course. ~~~time to consult photoshop~~~ ~Dunte Just my two cents (Message edited by DeadPrez08 on December 05, 2007) |

This might be expensive to do, but maybe this Lightning should be unique, with one off parts that make it different from the others. Different bars, (low rise or clip-ons), a different flyscreen(similar to the tubers), maybe a single headlight, and an XBR style tail. The red, white and blue theme sounds good, so does the polished or chrome frame. Candy red paint, white stripes on the airbox cover with blue stars and blue wheels. Just an idea... |

I agree. Red, white and blue MUST be the color scheme. No chrome though, it doesn't do anything for the history of these bikes or represent what most buellers want in a bike. |

I have to say. Its an honor to be even asked. Look at how many other companys have theyre own agenda, and dont even ask the customers. BMC rocks! Heck while were asking.. As far as Design...Im saying the XBRR engine. Would be cool. But I know way to expensive. I like the patriotic color schemes so far. Without a doubt there will be some guys to post some photoshop pictures shorlty. |

For sure red, white, blue colors. Pegasus must be on it. Incorporate something from the first Buell made and maybe the 1125 front caliper-first model to present model innovations. Polished frame, XBRR derived engine (dual throttle bodies) with the oil pump cover polished and the 25th logo engraved in it,rest of the cases flat black, Ohlins suspension, race spec tires, wheels-polished edge, powder coated red or blue center and spokes, dark blue powder coated header, polished stainless muffler, carbon fiber bodywork with color dyed carbon weave (not painted), single HID headlight, retro instruments with white backgrounds and the Pegasus( not digital), machined polished aluminum LED turn signals, maybe the Firebolt or RR tail made like the early model that flips up for a backrest. Must have Erik's signature on the bike. And only 250 produced. One bad streetfighter! (Message edited by coolice on December 06, 2007) |

My opinion - offset racing stripes like the tubers, plastics white, stripes either red or blue. Buell 25th Anniv. logo dead center on the airbox cover, of course with Eric Buell's signature.. white wheels with either blue or red pinstriping to match the racing stripes. Maybe the standard Buell emblem on the airbox cover have a stars and stripes theme?? Just an idea... |

My quick little [pencil sketch-turned-GIMP-art] Hate to post something this tacky but trying to show this other idea... Done like my other idea, without as many [stars&stripes]. Still think incorporating them under the Buell logo and directly onto the Pegasus now would be good. with the colours less gawdy of course.

Deadprez is on to something there, but in place of the pegasus on the fly screen I'd go with the 25th logo that is on the literature and the patches in silver or chrome. make it about 10% larger too. I'd embroider that logo in a select seat that is done in coordinating colors. I'd also have special cnc'd billet clutch and timing covers made with the same logo. I'd do a special finish on the wheels, something to set them off as a special edition parts. A chrome like effect would work whether it was done via a chroming, powdercoating, or ceramic coating process. Another option would be to source some of the spoked wheels that Hillbilly Motors has been using. But that is real "pie in the sky" stuff. Maybe include a seat cowl too that matches the paint scheme with either a Buell logo at the center of trailing edge, or the pegasus logo. The "pasta strainer" should be done in coordinating colors with a graphic of Erik's signature. The rear subframe should also be color matched to the body panels. The shock spring should be done in the trim color. By not directly choosing a set color scheme this allows for 6 different main color options to do treatments of to see what looks best. This should all be easilly do-able with the notable exception being the spoked wheels. |

Anonymous It should be silver. Maybe a bright silver with lettering/graphics just a bit lighter. Maybe pewter metal effects around the headlights and a chrome wind screen. Silver wheels with polished rims. Maybe carbon style leather seat with silver piping. Clear/gray turn signals. Polished or chrome brake caliper |

I like Deadprez's windscreen idea. It could also be like the limited edition CF bikes with the large pegasus across the front with a 25th in the lower right corner. I'll try to get a pic on here. |

I'd put several Pegasus's on it. Use each of the several versions that have existed. Make them small and not obvious. Do a Candy Apple Blue like the RS models had with the double white stripe. |

red, white and blue for the colors with an American flag pictured like it's blowing in the wind on the side, maybe even on the frame. I know that may not sell well in Europe but it's an American sports bike and I would like a flag on mine to show it's American made. Maybe you could place the flag decal on the frames of the bikes that are staying in the states and not on the ones shipped abroad. |

I think a red white and blue theme would fit the bikes perfectly with a waving flag inlaid to the Buell logo on the tank would be saweet. I'm a big fan of the translucent body panels, but can't think of a practical way to incorporate this into the design. I think a thrust blue body with the american flag inlaid to the Buell logo with an off center racing stripe like the tubers. would be sweet. OR, a racing red body with the american flag inlaid into the Buell logo with an off center white racing stripe like the tubers. Both colors should be offered with Silver wheels. I think the frame should be stock coloration. One or two of the bikes should have every Buell employees autograph on it for this ocassion. I'll draw some sketches up and post them when I should be looking for a job... |

How about this, ghost images of the different model designations and the various pegasus logos underneath a candy Blue or red main body color in the pattern Deadprez and I were talking about and a repeated pattern of the 25th logo ghosted underneath the strip added to my previous suggestions. |

Red, White, and Blue with a old V-Rod headlight (like off an 03... not the new nightrod one), and a nice new Rotax powered engine. Shave off the cheese grater, and relocate the plate directly under the seat and use smaller l.e.d.'s for the turn signals. I like the scheme of Deadprez.... use a pearl red to give it some sparkle, and within the blue racing stripe place white stars.... maybe with a "ghost image" of 25th in one star and the Pegasus in the other star in an alternating pattern all the way down the length of the bike. OR, use the pegasus as a ghost image on every other star and use chrome bolt covers engraved with "25" over the whole bike. Use a seat similar to the select seat for a little extra cushion, and stitch a large Pegasus in the rider seat (so when he get's off people can see it). Chrome the frame, forks, swingarm and foot pegs. Get rid of the mickey mouse mirrors and put some nice Bar End Mirrors on them. I know this is out there a bit, but do a 200 or 240 tire on it. Use one of those clutch plates that is "open" so when the bike is running you can see the components moving. Have the American Flag hydro-formed into the headers..... I'll keep thinking and post more later possibly. Glad to see so many people are saying go for a Red, White and Blue theme! Thanks Anon for giving us this opportunity!!! |

i think something along the lines of camo or olive drab green and white would fit the original american streetfighter better... i am really not into the whole red, white and blue paint scheems. it is hard to make even a simple red white and blue paint job not seem cluttered |

Add some white stars within the stripes that Deadprez drew up, and I dont see that as being "cluttered" at all. The idea is to have one main color and use the other two as accents, as deadprez shows in his drawing.... |
