Took the STT out for a quick around the block run. I changed the oil and filter and wanted to warm it up and check the level. I noticed that when I came to a stop, at a light or sign, that it seemed to idle fast, around 1800-2000 rpm and then slowed down in about 2-3 seconds to about 1050 rpm. I put 2.4 QTs including 4 oz in the filter and it wasn't even to the bottom on the dip stick. I had to add about 4 oz to get in the the OK range. Low oil light never came on. Did I read the book right or should it be 2.4 QTs PLUS 4 oz in the filter? I use the H-D filter and 20-50 H-D oil.

BTW low 30s and rain bite.

You got the oil level right.
It sounds to me like your bike may be idled a bit too high.
Just a bit makes the idle hang at 2000rpm or so just before heading back to normal idle.

Glitch, should it be 2.4 QTs plus the 4oz in the filter? Just a little thick today.

I'll idle her down a bit and try later, about to 1000 RPM?

Adjust the idle when it's hot.

Mine has done the same as yours when the temp dropped significantly inbetween rides. It "fixed itself" after a couple of rides in the new season.

Mine's doing the same thing. I just reset the TPS and adjusted the idle. It idles right when the choke's on, but as it gets warmer, it's idling around 1200 rpms... just a little too high. When I come to a stop light and clutch it, it wants to lag before idling back down. Not always, but probably 40% of the time. Guess I need to turn it back a bit more.

Ok I idled her down and that helped that! Thanks guys I was having an "Off Day" due to being worried about a friend.

I added a bit more oil and that's taken care of.

Washed her and she's in the garage for a bit as the weather is going to Tank here starting tonight, Thunderstorms, cold and snow. Heck I rode in to work today and it was so foggy on the way home I couldn't see a thing and that was at 2 pm! There were three of us nutcases, my Buell, Greg and his ST1300 Honda & Todd on his H-D BUT it was warm...last day for a while.
