I don't think their numbers are right...they had more than 50,000 people at the last several years per day, and there were more people at this event than in the past. at noon there were and endlist line of cars and bikes waiting to get in to the track at all three areas....had to be more people than 50,000 in one day, especially sunday. sure looked like a lot more people there than in wisconsin, infineon, and at the track at daytona for that matter....thanks, rex

Brad-
I'm sorry to hear about your dad! Getting old can really suck some times. I hope it all works out ok.

We had such a ball riding around those roads in Arkansas that they are talking about making it an annual ride. The motel owner (Edleweiss in Eureka Springs) is also a biker and had maps for us to use. He had roads listed that were excellent riders with hardly any traffic. I also saw a buch of littler back roads that would be fun to check out if I had more time. I didn't take any pics but a couple of other guys had cameras and will post them soon. The motel and an Italian restaraunt next door even gave us a discount for being bikers. What a deal!

Rex,

The O-fish-al count from SCRAMP is just over 56,000 people on Sunday.

"Spike, Rossi's spending his time wisely by admiring the "countryside" and watching the lap times. He'll win, of course. ( ...sigh...) "
Hey Ben. How totally cool is it to be so blatantly wrong? : ) That doesn't happen very often. ; )

I don't have a single negative thing to say about my weekend with Jim and about a hundred other Buell enthusiasts and however many thousands of other moto racing fans at Laguna Seca. More on Blake's awesome adventure at Laguna Seca later. : )

Vik, I wonder if SCRAMP omitted the "1" in front of those numbers. By the way, great meeting you and your lady. You are a very lucky man. : ) And thanks for the good advice. I walked all the way around the track on Saturday; hadn't seen from turn 6 to the top of the Cork Screw before. Cool stuff.

Laguna didn't look at all boring from 6000 miles away.

If anyone doubts the integrity of the results or performance put in by the top three you should study the lap times.

I was stoked to see Hayden win. From where I was sitting it appeared Rosi lost it in the Corkscrew. Be interesting to see the lap telemetries.

I'll take it! Did seem a little wierd that he didn't try to pass Colin on the last lap. I was waiting for the kamikazee one-foot-down-I-can't-make-this-unless-I-use-you-as-a-berm pass. I guess for first, its worth it. For second, and maybe taking out your team mate, I guess not.

Glad y'all had fun. It must have been AWESOME to see in person!

Rossi and Colin had comments about that last lap, look at superbikeplanet.com, Colin couldn't believe Rossi had caught him, Rossi said to himself when colin look back, yes it is me. Rossi also said he had a vison of the two Yamahas down in the sand and decided third was fine, he did beat all the Europeans.

He also said he learned a lot following those 2. I suspect he will be faster next year.

Nicky did a great job.

Nicky came into Monterey with a mission, and from the moment the bikes first took to the track on Friday, Nicky was the ONLY dog on the porch. all weekend long, whenever another rider would attempt to climb up there with him, Nicky said, "No, this porch belongs to ONLY to me."

it was an amazing thing to witness, a weekend that i will never forget, a race win that will always make me swell with pride. during the playing of the national anthem during the trophy presentation they intentionally STOPPED playing the recorded music and the massive crowd, in unison, without missing a beat, finished singing the anthem as if with one voice. this could be heard clear on the other side of the huge Laguna Seca complex. thrilling.

i had hoped to post pix from the event, but had issues with the laptop. as soon as my card reader shows up (being shipped back from Monterey along with a ton of other stuff) i'll hang some photos from the weekend.

for anyone who missed the race live, SPEED TV is showing it again today at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific. i can't wait to see it all over again. : )

ride to lean,
Ferris

Vik, thanks for the numbers. sure seemed like a lot more folks than that, especially compared to last year.

People were on every open spot of land, and it seemed like they had cars parked in areas that have never been used before. There were people everywhere. What an experience.

Have some photos of the American Sport Bike Night dinner too. Will check with Jack and see if we can get them loaded up for all to see.

Great weekend. Great bunch of Buell owners from all over. Maybe we can better coordinate the events for all to attend next year.

American Sport Bike Night dinner
Rides
Love Shack (Got almost over there, but never made it by, sorry....just couldn't go any further on Sunday than the bridge)
Cannery Row ( not many buells there. we should stake out an area for all of our bikes)

Court, you tease.

You get me all worked up asking for my email address (ds2spmc) I'm thinking you have a secret Buell mission or complicated Ducati question(at) and then you don't contact me for 24 hours. I guess it's just a run-of-the-mill request. pacbell.net Sigh. I'll still honor your request, even if it is ordinary.

Yes, you have to repack the muffler every 5000 miles at the most. There was also a recall on the mounting brackets.

I just don't know which way to go. Check out my listing on the 92'RS in the classifids section. Fix and ride or sell get different. I just sold my way cool 95' 900 SS Sp Duc and the Buel is a cool second player with infinite easier maintenance. Sell or get to work? I just couldn't take less than $4500. Will I get it? 92' RS ready to fit, paint. 4.5k miles.

If you do not repack the race muffler, the perforated core that runs from inlet to the rear exhaust will crack and start rattling around inside the muffler *been there, done that). This will likely, over time, wear a hole in the actual canister. In other words, yes, repack.

I believe Al at American Sport Bike has some quality packing material.

Pale: Good information in the KV on repacking the race muffler...Get the ceramic kit @ American Sport Bike. It lasts much much longer than standard fiberglas.

I may be shooting myself in the foot here buy giving the deal away, but I'm new to the Buell's and am looking at getting one. First off I'm currently deployed to Kosovo with the Army national guard and won't get back stateside till spring of 2006. So my only shopping tools from here are the internet or Aafes, I've spotted a nice looking 2003 BUELL XB9R Firebolt for $5,898.00 (usd) with only 450 miles on it. How good a deal is this?

Feel free to post messages or email me directly at clark.bingham@us.army.mil

PS a link to the sale is:

Nice, you can park it in my garage until you return ; )

Otherwise, I'd say no. Even if it happens to have an extended warranty to transfer, that bike isn't worth 5.9k in 9mo.

Early next spring (before you get back) post on here about good deals and see what folks dig up.

Bing,

Don't count out AAFES. I got my '02 Ma Deuce in June of '03 for $3K off the list price. I even got to meet Danny when I picked it up in Modesto . You may be able to pick up a year old model for a good price since AAFES buys a certain number of bikes each year betting that they can sell them. If they can't, you save. Mine sat in the crate at the factory for over a year.
