Ferris, I've always wished I had a sister. Hard to think of yourself as a lucky man right now, but it sounds like you had one of the best. Take care, knowing you will feel her arm around your shoulder when the sun warms your tired bones. At that point you'll be able to look upward and smile, and feel at peace. God bless your family.

friends, i think this is a good place to jump in again. as i said before, thank you all SO much for your words. everytime i read them again i cry, yet, everytime i read them again i get a little stronger.

some of you who've posted i know personally, some of you've i've only met thru BADWEB, and some of you i've not met at all, yet you all took the time to express your respects, and you MUST know how important your words have been for me.

my Mom is aware that i put out an initial post here when i got the terrible news the other night, and i've shared with her the incredible outpouring of love and support from you guys and gals. she is SO grateful for your concern, and very much looking forward to reading your posts, which i'm bringing with me this weekend, in hardcopy version, when i fly up to Seattle for my sister's service.

your words, in my opinion, are more meaningful than cards and flowers, and as such, we've purposely chosen not to "advertise" an address, here or elsewhere, to sends cards and flowers to. i hope you understand. flowers fade, your words will remain in mine and my family's possession forever.

please accept, again, my sincere thanks for your support. even as wordy as i'm obviously being here, i still can't convey what this means to us. thank you from the bottom of my heart.

now then...

at this point i think it's important that this forum gets on with business. there's a TON of stuff going on in Hooligan-land to talk about, as there always is, and i think this would be a great time to "break the ice" so to speak and say that it's ok to get back to what BADWEB is all about.

for anyone who still wants to say some words here for my sister, myself and my family, that's way cool. i depart for Seattle at dawn Saturday morning, and i will copy any and all posts that may come in between now and then and include them with the others.

but, it's ALSO way ok for us to get on with life, love, and all matters motorcycle, k? :)

Todd, i echo your sentiments above: Godspeed to our fighting forces, and those from our allies (Mr. Blair, you rock!), who are in harm's way as we speak. whether one supports what is happening in Iraq or not, the men and women now engaged there deserve our utmost support. their lives are on the line, and it's important that we acknowledge and appreciate the extreme danger they are being asked to face in the name of peace and freedom.

i'm so very grateful for friends, for freedom, and for life.

Ferris,

Nobody can be prepared for such a loss - the loss of a family member is hard enough, especially one taken so suddenly and so cruelly.

I too am at a loss of words to express my regrets and can only hope that you, your Mother and Family are there for each other in this difficult time - especially your Mother. No Mother, no parent wishes to outlive her child.

Please know you, your Sister and your Family are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.

So did everyone but me know that Carroll Shelby was going to be making motorcycles? When I heard that I was said "probably some bike custom Harley or something" and the response I got was that they were "small bikes". Sounds kind of interesting, no?

Ferris,

The weather in the high country will soon be warming. I believe that a long visit to 'the meadow' in memory of your sister would be appropriate. I can think of no place on earth more suited to honoring the life, and mourning the loss, of a loved one.

baptism of fire ......

well, I drove the buell to work today.
I will only be here a couple of hours so I figured no big deal.
10 min later it started raining, then hailing and at one point i had to stop a few minutes cause the wind got so bad it almost tore my big ass off of the bike. Still I kept going for the remaining 35 miles.

I think I am now eligible to call myself a badweatherbiker.

Important observation: shop heat guns will dry your pants, but it is less dangerous if you don't wear then while doing that :-)

According to sources close to me...There is a new competition afoot. Wes Brown, in conjunction with Cycle-Rama, Inc and Craig Walters of Walters Technologies against James Simonelli in conjunction with S&S Cycles have a serious rivalry to see who can produce the first 200RWHP street motor (Big Twin). Wes Brown and Craig Walters both being proven cylinder head experts and very capable of squeezing the last hp out of every motor they touch and James Simonelli being a notable wrench himself should make this contest THE event of the year.
Wes Brown of Cycle-Rama fame and James Simonelli from S&S Cycles set the Dyno on fire this and previous years at AMI in Daytona, FL. This years documented horsepower was 147.2 from Wes Brown's Cycle-Rama/Walters Technologies born 123ci Twin Cam and 169 from James Simonelli's 140ci S&S Cycles motor. As a side note: Pam Brown of Cycle-Rama, Inc. took the first place trophy with her 88ci in the Buell class, at this years AMI dyno shoot-out with a 127.2, even with crippling carburetor trouble.
This AMI event is being touted as the "Super BOWL" of Dyno shootouts. Several big name companies in the industry have already signed on to be a part of this Dynamic Dyno Dual. The battle ground of choice will be SuperFlow's CycleDyn SF-250 Dynomometer. This Dyno is noted, by the industry, for producing the most accurate horsepower numbers, bar none.
Stay tuned for updates and information as the battle rages on.

Congrats Pammy,

Here's a flick of Randy Smalley 120 Aerocharged monster from the 99 AMI shootout. TJ the engine builder from Eastside Performance here in Phoenix (a turbo freak) posted 211.7 hp with his Aerocharged, street-ridden custom.

Sparky:

The meadow in question is along a little used, but paved, logging road that crests Portuguese Pass south of Johnsondale. The meadow is one of unsurpassed serenity. It was Ferris who introduced me to this most special place.

My S2 was at a dealer getting some work accomplished and I asked them to make sure it was current on the recalls. Come to find out it needed all of them (the bike had been in their shop numerous times for a total of about 2-3 months waiting on body parts) Well the post office misread the factory copy of the dealer service card and delivered it to me. This apparently is the card the dealership sends to the factory any time they complete a safety recall.

There is a place on it for a customer signature and someone signed my name there and initialed above it. Is this a typical/acceptable procedure? I had other recalls accomplished on my S3 at the factory and at another dealership and I always signed the card.

DAve...As I understand your post the work was performed to spec and they just signed your name with their initials...I don't think it's exactly kosher but I would bet that is that particular dealer's policy...And I bet the reason they do it is that they have, in the past, performed warranty work, delivered the scoot and forgotten to get the owners john hancock...Obviously, it must be okay with East Troy as they are paying the dealer for the work with only an initialed signature...Bottom line is that you are satisfied with the work performed and it was documented as performed...

Wanna ride Sunday?

See Ya!
