I was visiting my dealer yesterday when this unique sound came from the dyno room. Sounds like a thumper, can't be a blast&stratton. It was indeed a Blast! with a Vance & Hines. It sounded great. I will attempt to get the Dyno chart from them and post it here.

I just got an E-Mail from Force Motor Company and they are about to release a "Streetfighter" exhaust for the Blast
blast streetfighter exhaust
I hope that I'm not violating a trust by posting this but it so looks cool and very low key that I had to show it to someone else.

Also in the works is an intake so that we can get rid of that annoying airbox which they sent a photo of next to the airbox but since it ain't attached it's doesn't really show much.
Peace

The V&H pipe is nice though a bit loud. I regularly hit the rev limiter now where before I never did. K&N makes a jet kit for the blast. Due to the location of the carb There isn't likely to be any kind of intake that won't interfere at least slightly with the kneeroom. You could fabricate a flange to attach to the carb and use a plain K&N 4" cone (#R1260) mounted roughly in a dirt track racer manner. It will stick out behind your knee...this is what Crossroads Performance did in their project Blast. Below is photo of the Force intake mounted. They say it will be available in the spring.

V&H was out at Laguna this year. They had a Blast with their "very first prototype" pipe on it, which they said was pretty much the same as the current production unit. Sounded about like I would expect it to, popcorny. I asked if they had rejetted or attempted to tune the bike in any way. They said they had just slapped it on and left it at that. They were using it for a pit bike.

I don't think that anything short of an open reverse-cone megaphone is going to sound correct on a single, unless maybe a Supertrapp with as many discs put in as possible.

Spudman,
I haven't done anything to Dee's Blast! that can't be undone due to warrantee considerations.I talked to the service manager at a local H-D dealer and he informed me that drilling out anything in the carb. would be getting into a "grey area" as far as the warranty is conserned. This is important to us because we have an extented warrantee (5 yrs.) on her bike. I wanted the warrantee because it's a new model bike with a new engine (first model year)that is unproven. If we have a serious problem I can change it back to stock in a couple of hours.
I had Cyclerama order a K&N airfilter for me on monday. They do make one for the Blast! (Tony, thanks again for the heads up on that) we'll keep the stock airbox for the previous reasons and the ones i've seen so far looks like it would be very much in the way of the riders knee. The stock one may be unattractive but should work well with a high flow filter.
We haven't rode the bike enough since the changes to check mileage. Maybe we will during the holidays. It is a bit nasty here in Fl. right now but will clear up in a few days. At least we don't have any of that nasty white stuff our northern friends are enjoying right now!!!!

Spudman,
i just put a V&H exhaust on my lady's Blast!.I really like the sound. It's loud. I don't have to look for her anymore,I can hear her behind me now.
I talked to the service manager at Jim's H-D(St.Pete.Fl.)they put a V&H on their demo Blast! and just changed the low speed jet from a 42 to a 45. It did a nice job of flatttening out the dip in the the torque curve at mid-range.
My seat-of-the-pants0meter tells me that Dee's bike now pulls all the way to the rev limiter. and yes, it hits the rev limit alot quicker now.I'm going to change her low speed jet to a 45 tomorrow.I'm also going to change the main jet from a 165 to a 170 while I'm at it.
All Blasters,
The only way an aftermarket co. will develope an air filter for a new bike is if they feel there is a market for it. Sooo...if everyone that has a Blast! were to call...say K&N Engineering at 1-800-858-3333 and let them know we would be interested they may be inspired to action. of course I wouldn't suggest that we call them ALOT!!

I have actually gained a few miles per gallon with the jetting and the V&H Pipe. I'm putting it on the Dyno (hopefully it's up) either Wed. or Thurs. So I'll try to scan the charts and post them after work on Fri. Keep y'all posted

At the dealer yesterday (Sat) here in Seattle, salesman Tracy told me to try the 2001 Blast parked outside with the Vance & Hines exhaust (and with some rejetting). Thanks!

The V&H looks very good on the Blast. It looks even better than the stock cow catcher. :)

At idle the pipe emits a steady thump, but it announces itself clearly once the bike is underway. My riding impressions were that, with only 11 miles on the new Blast, that the acceleration is more pronounced than my Blast, broken in properly, with 2400 miles on it. There's a real willingness to pick up speed.

Of course the larger rear sprocket (now standard, and retrofitted by the recall on the 2000 models) is a real plus with this engine.

No, I didn't get the jetting changes, but I will ask later. No dyno test was done at the shop (but they might later).

A elderly biker said it sounded like an old flat track racer. I think that was a compliment. He said a Blast being raced locally picked up 7 hp with mod's to the carb, airbox, and pipe.

The sound reminded me a whole lot of my 78 Yamaha SR500 when I put on the White Brothers muffler with Supertrapp exhaust discs. A prospective Blast buyer said she loved the sound of this yellow 2001 Blast. She bought the yellow Blast with the V&H pipe soon after I left.

But I have to say that the Vance and Hines pipe was too loud (with me wearing a full-face helmet) for my 49 year old ears. I'm going to pass on this muffler and check out the White Brothers system that might have a tuneable (turnable?) noise level. Honestly, I like the sound level of the stock bike but I don't like the flat spot in the midrange.

My dealer (Downtown HD, 206-243-5000) has sold out the V&H pipes for the Blast and will order more. Their Blast project bike, on display at the CW motorcycle show in Seattle this weekend, looked great.

Picked up my '00 Blast from the HD dealer today after they did the 2500 mile service, which was just a bunch of tightenings and topping offs. $71 total, all labor and tax.

Before I left, I got to ride a '01 Blast with a KERKER exhaust system, plus the requisite jetting already done. The Buell had but 8 miles on it.

The Kerker is really interesting in that it has a thin cylindrical black pipe parallel to the shiny muffler. A cross-over pipe connects the two. Up top, the black header pipe was already showing some "whitening".

Although the Kerker is supposed to have 4 or so available endcaps, the one installed was pretty much all the way open.

Oh yeah it was loud, much like the V&H I tried and wrote about above. But it seemed to have a little better pickup than the V&H. Again, I'd prefer to try the thing on a Blast fully broken in so I could open it up without guilt.

But, riding my own stock Blast home, it didn't seem like the power gain was all that much. Perhaps the midrange gain would make the rejetting and exhaust changes worth it. But I'm still holding out for more info.

If you're in the Seattle area you can check out two Blasts side by side with V&H and Kerker pipes at Downtown Harley Davidson. They'll be closed from Dec 24 through Jan 1, 2001.

Rather cool too bad they didn't include testing on the V&H as well. That midrange hole is pretty obvious, though I'm surprised there isn't any top change in hp/torque but This is likely true with my V&H as well as I didn't feel much there either just in the middle. Changing the Jetting will also make a Difference but not on the Stock pipe (except to make it worse). Thanks for posting this

Battle 2Win magazine (Vol 4, Issue 1) has a nice article on the WB e-series exhaust for the Blast. Complete dyno chart and graph. The midrange is definitely helped.

They used all 13 discs in the test. Does anyone have an idea of how the hp/torque curves change as discs are removed?

The e-series looks great on the Blast.

Happy holidays to all!

I HAVE RUN BOTH THE V&H PIPE AND THE KERKER PIPE AND THE KERKER SOUNDS WAY BETTER AS FAR AS HP #S GO I HAVENT SEEN ANY OTHER THAN IN BATTLE2WIN. STILL WAITING FOR THE WB PIPE. ALSO CHANGED CARB TO MIKUNI 42 AND CAMS FROM THE SE HIGH LIFT KIT GOING CHAIN DRIVE WITH 17" WHEELS, SE ADJUSTABLE IGN. DYNA SINGLE COIL. HOPE TO RUN IT ON THE DYNO MID APRIL, DOES 92MPH 4THGEAR AND OVER 100MPH 5TH NEED CHAIN DRIVE TO GET THE GEAR RATIO DOWN TO HAVE DECENT LOW END POWER. I WILL LET YA KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT.

No mention on their web page if the Forcewinder intake for the Blast is available yet.

My wife would like to put a new exhaust on her blast and sound is the major concern for here. Can anyone provide me with some input as to which system provides the deepest note. I am new to the Buell world and this list but I am looking forward to the discussion and help. Being an avid Sportster enthusiast I think I will fit in. I am also looking for information on where online I can order the correct jets for the Blast carburator.

Further up in this archive there is dyno results comparing the e-series to the kerker. Seems the white bros and kerker are close to each other. Haven't seen one on the V&H, but they don't claim as much gain as the other two on their website. It really comes down to looks. Crome vs. black header/aluminum muffler vs. a big "h" looking black header with a shiny muffler.

I just ordered a Daytona Boss exhaust(directly from Daytona HD/Buell) for my M2, and the parts counter employee found that they also make a exhaust system for the Blast. I may look into getting one for my wifes Blast, over winter hybernation. I should have, but didn't, ask the how much is it question. Sorry.

From my limited exaust knowledge, i think the V&H is essentially a drag pipe, there are no flow restrictions, nor the ability to tune the pipe. I have one on my bie, and i love it, though i have not had the chance to dyno it and see how it actually performs. With 4800 miles on my blast, i can say i enjoy the heck out of it :)

Just installed a V&H pipe on my wife's 2000 Blast.

Does anyone think that Erik Buell sits and laughs every time he hears about some poor sap try to remove the rear mount?

Also, did anyone else see some serious mis-alignment - notably in how it reflected in the rear mount? I had to assemble mine backwards and urge everything together.

Loud. Not idling, though... Wife's happy... :)

I have been bothered incessantly by deceleration pops out the muffler. New intake seals, exhaust gaskets and muffler repacking have had no effect. A retired Sportster mechanic and racer told me today that when using a cam with a lot of overlap a lot of fuel gets dumped into the exhaust system on throttle closed deceleration, this fuel ignites in there and this is the reason for the pops. I supposed a suitable amount of air also gets in there from the butterfy "idle" opening throgh the carb.

My buddy'd stock (air cleaner and pipe) S1W is dead quiet on deceration and the SEI cams in it have some overlap. Guess the SEII's in my bike may have some more.

Would appreciate commets as I am pretty annoyed I can't seem to quiet my motor down and end up attracting attention to myself when I least want it, when I'm trying to slow down undetected.
