When I can afford it I'd be happy to make a donation as well towards sponsorship of a racing team.

I am the BRAG club director in KC.

I think tossing in $100.00 of our club funds is a good idea, I doubt there will be major opposition by the members.

Count us in as a maybe... and I will bring it up at the January meeting.

I gotta run it past the members... it's their money.

I will bring this up at our next A.S.B.N. meeting, see if I can stir some interest.
Oh,and I will cut $100.00 out of my race budget to give to their race budget.
(my mom used to tell my brothers and I that we would argue over paper napkins---sound familiar??)

Blake - Any way to post some sort of cartoon-version of $$ pledged? Kinda cool to get a sense of how big this thing could be getting. Maybe tweak the teams to come aboard here and "sing for their supper!"

Might be sort of a single box with a Badweb FX race pledge tally - graph/bar chart???

Blake, me 'n D are in for a hun, maybe more depending on the timing. as for MBSween's suggestion - Then we get Ferris to hang with the team, write the book , and then we can all buy it from Daves! - well, if this comes to pass (and nobody voted me off the island) i'd be honored.

btw, we'd be quite comfortable with YOU deciding where our money should go.

Happy Buell Year Everybody.

I did forget to mention with my earlier ramble that you can count me in as well.

In respect to the ripple in this thread; I have been coming to this site for 3yrs and have found it to be the most honest, straight forward, message site to deal with. Everyone is always helpful, informative, interesting to deal with. Granted there have been some counterpoint conversations, but they are usally done with respect and those who don't follow such ways do find there way to sites where they enjoy Fing everything to try and say something. Blake and everyone else have done a great job making this a premier website for Buell riders to meet and converse and I have no reason to believe that their decision for the $$$ would not be properly dealt with.

As far as the Go BadWeb - Amen!

Posted by Blake:

"I'd like to see someone, anyone with a "fragile ego" attempt to run a discussion board, any discussion board, let alone do it for over six years. That's a real gut cramper that one.

Funny how some feel the need to announce their departure.

Interesting to note too that most often those who suspect disingenuous or malevolent character in others are themselves the ones most deserving of such suspicions.

When such individuals depart this fine forum, the forum is better for it.

Can I get a "GO BadWeB!!!"? "

Grow up.

Anyone who reads my posts will see I never questioned your honesty, but simply gave an example of why a casual observer, like me, would wait to commit until we had more info.

At the time, you hadn't stated that you weren't thinking about supporting your nephew's racing program, so it wouldn't have been dishonest for you to do so, would it?

It was a rational question that could have been answered in a rational way.

I have done nothing but praise Buell and its racing program on these pages. My only crime was to ask you a simple question, so if your idea of a better forum is one that only contains sycophants, then yes, I think the forums are a tiny bit better now.

I'm sure this will either be quickly deleted or result in a lengthy, rambling tirade that I won't have the time or interest to read, so I'll close with this wish for your eyes only - Good luck, I hope you can really do something with this. Hopefully my posts have helped you by providing an imaginary, nay-saying, enemy that everyone else can rally around to defeat.

>>>I'm sure this will either be quickly deleted

No, it won't. Blake need not respond, I'll handle this.

This has started 2005 with the most positive and productive thread in a good long time on Badweb.

I'm going to leave this post to remind folks how easily contrivedoversy can sidetrack an admirable pursuit.

I'll be speaking a bit about Buell racing in my "State of Buell - 2005" piece. Even I have been blown away by the success of this group.

While others lament Harley-Davidson's lack of divine inspiration in what to do with their money, Buell's "abandoning" it's owners by not spending hundreds of thousands on racing, this group has become the moto-equivalent of the "little train that could".

While a few took cybershots at Buell and HD, easy big successful corporate style targets, many of the folks I've come to admire, love and respect said...."hey, none of us alone can do much and even together we can't do it all, but...LET'S DO SOMETHING AND DO OUR BEST."

I'm counting several continents, a couple of countries and even more personal diversity. Several folks have "popped for the C" that I know darn well can't afford to and who's politics are inconsistent with my own. They are welcome, this is the type of things on which Buell bonds are built.

Please take note that I have neither taken you nor the content of your post to task. You really didn't do anything wrong, sure a lesser knowing person, new to the board, may have seen Blake as a scammer.

Trust is an interesting thing. It is once earned and when earned becomes more, rather than less, fragile. But when intact, it is as powerful as a Mother's love for a child.

I hope this sheds some light on how, at least, I see this situation. I also hope you'll not make your help in our cause contingent upon or withheld due to this. You are a valued member of this group, have always chimed in with your thoughts and no one, not me or any of the other custodial types, want the train to leave without EVERY Buell enthusiast on board. In fact, someone needs to get over and challenge some of the SacBorg guys and gals....I'll bet they'd even ante up!

Ride safe, lean much and smile more,
Court

Blake or Court does Hal's or Kosco for that matter know that the BadWeb is raising money for there race cause??? And are they going to accept it??? Just wondering.Cause if they don't where will all the money go then???I think its awesome to try to help the FX teams but if I'm going to give money I would like to know that Kirk the owner of Hal's or Terry Galagan team mamager or Jim Winters race manager are going to accept it. This is not a trust issue that I don't trust you guy's or just about anyone on this Forum but, alot of great people here. I just wouldn't want it to backfire in some way on us and they can't use it.

No,it wasn't.It was a snide shot at Blake and was absolutley undeserved.Rational question would have been along the lines of--So,who are you thinking of giving the sponsorship money to?

Stir Stir Stir the pot...

I think you guys worrying about where the money is going need to re-read Blake's initial post...

"This is just a what if testing the waters for a grass roots effort."

No money has changed hands here peoples. Just chime in if you would be in for supporting "a" team. That's the only info he requested.

I'm still in...

Due to possible conflict of interest issues it looks like a contingency award scheme will be the optimum solution. Of course to collect, the teams will need to display a BadWeatherBikers.com sticker prominently on the bike.

Kudos to whoever originally suggested the contingency award idea. : )

That also eliminates the problem of having to pick a single team and is a performance based award, something I am very much in favor of. It really does avoid a whole host of problems. I can see why so many interested parties use the contingency award scheme.

Next question, who wants to be in charge of summarizing and posting the list of potential contributors and the amount total?

I vote for Dana! : )

You up for that old buddy? : )

You'll get to learn the \table{paste spreadsheet data here} formatting function of the board. : )
