Hmmm...Looks like the timing is right for the BWB Leadership to discuss the situation offline and announce the Team they see fit to best benefit from the donations.

Incidentally, up to this point, I believe it has all been fact finding as to whether or not there is interest and to get an idea of the teams the BWB'ers would like to help out.

Can't wait to see what verdict the jury announces.

Check out my recent post in the Calendar Thread.

With the cooperation of the Powers-to-Be, the team sponsorship, calendar project and any other T-shirt or Tchotchke sales effort can be combined to make a significant contribution to the chosen team.

I'd certainly buy a T.

Anyway... I too think it's time for the powers that be to start digging and come up with a team that we are going to donate to. Court has it spot on... We don't want to give three teams "effectively nothing" each. We want to throw all of our eggs in one basket and then start cheering. I don't particularly care which basket it is, just as long as they are on the Speed channel : ).

Unbelievable.

Do we need a list of people willing to contribute towards a partial BadWeB sponsorship of an AMA Formula Xtreme racing team? We would need some serious pledges here as we are talking a minimum of six figures.

I'm in for $100.

We just need another thousand such commitments and we are there. Should this come to fruition it may not come into effect until the '06 season. Would aim for the latter part of the '05 season, but we cannot know for sure. This is just a what if testing the waters for a grass roots effort.

Maybe we can team up with the BRAG people on this?

Too many cooks stirring the pot here. All I wanted at this point is an estimate of how much BadWeB might be able to raise towards a sponsorship effort.

Y'all will need to trust the BadWeB custodians to pick the team to sponsor if we should just happen to get enough promises of donations to the fund. It will not be a random choice I can assure you. It will be the team that has the best chance of winning.

From that I get accused of all manner of indignities and underhanded arrogant heavy handedness? : ?

All I asked was for an indication from those interested of how much we might raise towards sponsorship of a Buell FX team. That is it. Nothing more. If you are interested in helping to sponsor a Buell FX team, then I appreciate your indicating so here.

Thanks to all who have already responded positively.

Unfortunately there are too many cooks stirring the pot here. And too many naysaying jackasses. It darn near ain't worth the trouble.

"If I'm being asked to donate blindly into a fund which could be sent to Blake's Nephew's racing program . . . I'm sorry, but I'm not willing to put that kind of blind faith into it."

No one asked you to actually donate a damn thing, and it really hurts that you think no better of me or the rest of the BadWeB custodians than what your post indicates. I mean your statement is really really unfortunate. You basically charged me publicly of being a crook. Nice. If after being a member of this little online community of Buell enthusiasts you have no idea of what I am about and feel that trusting me and the other custodians with choosing the most meritorious FX Buell race team to sponsor would be a foolish expression of "blind faith", well, I hope that you are in the minority. At least some people have the consideration to ask a polite question seeking clarification rather than making such offensive accusations.

Fine, if you don't trust me or the other custodians of the site to make a well informed and good decision, fine, then take a hike, don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. You are not welcome in this discussion. Realize also that you will then not be a part of what may easily end up being a truly historic achievement.

To clarify further, the alternatives as I see them right now are Hal's and Kosko's teams. If Hoban's are planning to run a full season, then they would merit consideration too.

For those who saw fit to assign their preconceived accusations of bias to me: Please rest assured that there is absolutely no bias in my mind as to which team most merits BadWeB sponsorship. If some form of BadWeB sponsorship comes to fruition, we will go with the team that most merits our support based upon rational logical objective analysis, period.

Obviously if one team says that they have no need nor want of our sponsorship, then that obviously will factor into the analysis.

Other than that, the best team wins.

Or would y'all rather vote for Crusty or Elvis to handle the whole deal and make the decision on which team to sponsor? If so, please go to their online forum and make the plans/arrangements to do so there, not here.

I say let's go for it.

I tend to think the $$ should go to one team rather than spread the donation too thin. Might turn out not be my "favorite" team but it'd be good to see it happen regardless.

Anybody have any ideas for team section criteria?

Some kinda quid pro quo?

Nominations from the floor?

Should it be a team committed to going the entire FX season?

(i'll go off and do some thinking)

Personally, I don't care who the team is or how many of them there will be. Just like the feeling of doing something to help promote the venture.

No one, not you, not Crusty, not nobody pee'd in anybody's Wheaties...tis the nature of discussion.

I'll field two of the questions:

Some kinda quid pro quo?
No. Team Calamari was a Ducati Teeam

Nominations from the floor?
Yes. Road Thing and FMJH. I say we send pros.

Please accept my pledge for $100.00. I will gladly support the decision of the board as to what team. This is a no brainer, folks--The brains are with the board!

Just let me know when and where to send my check or credit card no. I don't do paypal and several funds have fallen short because a snail mail address is not posted so old-fashioned folk can't contribute!

Thanks. Dick

Blake,

A 6 figure donation is a lot of $$$. Do you think that it could be done (even 1/2 of it) with donations from BADWEB alone? I have donated to several things through this board (especially to help those who went down), but never really knew what the final tallies were - not that it is important for me to know, as long it help those who needed it. If you are talking $50-100k, even after 2 years of fund raising do you think it's possible? I would be always willing to help out when I can, but it does seem like a long road to maybe not make. I maybe totally wrong as well - this is just a estimated guess of the amount of Active Members one can see here on a regular basis and if they were to donate $100 each, it does not seem as if you would make your quota.

Maybe as stated a joint venture with Buell itself (either partial, matched, or greater amount) could work for both. Then again, would it be so bad to find a team to help sponsor with a smaller $$$ amount, that would appreciate the sponsorship. We may not be able to do $50-100K, but why not try 10k for a couple of years; then you'd only need 100 at $100 donations a year to support that fund. It may be more workable and I do not know too many teams that could not use 10k a year to help with their bills.

It maybe better to start small (or realistic) to get the name out there.

Just some rambling thoughts -
Happy New Year to ALL

Blake:

Sorry. I thought it was a simple, logical question.

I consider you an excellent custodian of this site, but as one of many people who check in occasionally but don't post regularly and have never met you that's not enough for me to commit. If all you want is donations from close, personal friends, fine. That's clearer now.

It sounded interesting, but I was interested in helping a racing effort, not supporting your (clearly) fragile ego, so "I'll take a hike" as you suggest.

Hey....while we are stirring the terminally unstirable, anyone who can get Ross to say a naughty word or loose his temper gets another "C Note" from me.

I see this as the chance to excite the terminally dull among our group. I mean Ross is Australian and an Undertaker. Does it seem strange that he is always so calm?

Enquiring minds want to know....

ROFLMAO

I'd like to see someone, anyone with a "fragile ego" attempt to run a discussion board, any discussion board, let alone do it for over six years. That's a real gut cramper that one. ROFLMAO

Funny how some feel the need to announce their departure.

Interesting to note too that most often those who suspect disingenuous or malevolent character in others are themselves the ones most deserving of such suspicions.

When such individuals depart this fine forum, the forum is better for it.

Can I get a "GO BadWeB!!!"? : )

Elvis,
Trust me, any funds collected will NOT go to "Blake's nephew". If you aren't convinced maybe you should research the history of "Team Elves" contributions.
In this case I agree with Blake and Court (Court's logic can sometimes be convoluted but its usually logical).

Also, Blake and I have butted heads on many occasions and although Blake's ego can be voluminous I never describe it as fragile.

Blake,
I'm baack!!!

Grt,

Thanks for the support on the integrity issue.

As to my admonition of "don't let the door hit you on the way out", you are confused, there are no moderators here. We have custodians and an administrator.

Administrator from the base administer

administer (verb)
  • To have charge of; manage.
  • To apply as a remedy: administer a sedative.
  • To mete out; dispense: administer justice.

I have no problem with harsh.

Happy New Year to all, and thanks to all who have indicated their willingness to support some form of BadWeB sponsorship for an FX Buell racing team.

Court Mate,
Your money has already been spent.Better to be terminally dull than be terminal.Hey I will be the last guy to let you down.(industry humour). You have not been to some of the funerals I have done and seen the placid facade whilst scrambling madly to keep it all together.Remind me to tell you some time.I left a message on your phone the other day and no I am not going to give you my phone number as I have heard that your calculation of time zones sometimes goes awry in particular those to another member who is summoned in the early hours of the morning with suspicious calls from a Courtney L Canfield.Happy New Year.
