Almost worth changing the name of this page to that. Where's the infamous Moderator...

I recently read that some drag racers are running ceramic wheel bearings for less rolling resistance. If they help in just a 1/4 mile they sound like they would have even more potential for LSR.(i don't know anything about the LSR class rules + i'm guessing you already are aware of these bearings but i thought i'd mention it just in case)

S2's back togeather and happy with 81 miles of break-in down.

The turbo seems to blow an oil/gas mix where the plenum mounts the the carb, even when ridding off-boost to break it in. Any ideas about sealing this?

I'm thinking about approaching Aerocharger as a partial sponsor, basically for some spares incase anything related to their product should go wrong. Does this conflict with anything if I plan on running as a member of Team Elves?

Roc,
Does the bike have a CV or a Mikuni?

CV - and apparently that is how you differentiate between their new system and the old one, the new one uses a CV.

Ah, I thought the difference was the inlet to the plenum either coming in at the top or the centre. Mine was designed for a Mikuni (top inlet), but I machined out the centre to make it fit to a CV with a spacer the same as the race air filter uses. Then it will seal using normal CV gaskets.

Top pic is the wrong one. I meant to load this. Still sized for the Mikuni adaptor.

Peter,

Suggest countersinking the allen head screws to avoid disturbing airflow. Could conceivably affect integrity of carburetion. Just to be safe. :)

My problem is that with the stock type CV gaskets there seems to be leakage/oil spray, because of pressure? Maybe an RTV type silicone sealer?

Peter - meet me in more power section.

Does anyone have a small gas tank, Honda 50, they would like to sell or give to me? It needs to hold 1.32 gallons/5 liters or less, or be modifiable. I need it for "altered" class status.

Should I leave the “Buell Bros.” MPS-PBG record alone and just go for the open stuff? This really is where my bike should be running.

Court – is there a deal to be had on six-speeds?

I talked to Aerocharger today. No spare part support, but he thought I should “easily” have enough horsepower to make full use of my international gearing – on low boost. That means I should have at least 20-25% more power than I can use; decisions.

If Erik is crazy enough to ride something I’ve been working on he can run it for a record.

I'm looking for a X1 shifter setup for my LSR project. Does anyone have their stock X1 left side shifter componets just lying around collecting dust? I don't have much $$$ but I do have a nice T-shirt and coffee mug for you.

Jim, just got my LSL rearsets for my '01 X1, so you can have my OEM shifter setup. Send an e-mail with your address and how much of the linkage you need. All of it I'm guessing. I'll take it off the bike after this weekend and get it in the mail soon after.

Jim, on the sporty, are those the fully adjustable 39mm forks like my FXDX has? If so, what have you done to them to maintain stability at really high speeds? I start wobbling at 115 but feel that a steering damper is just a "quick fix" and not an actual solution to the problem. Have you played with a shorter offset between the steering tube and stanchions to get more rake? I may just send them to racetech sometime.

My 39mm cartridge style forks have always worked pretty well for me. I have replaced the springs and oil with Race-Tech's items last year.

For the problem you described, I would play around with the suspension settings (compression, rebound, and preload on mine both front and rear). No one setup covers all conditions.

I would also check front to rear wheel aligment. Are they both straight to each other?

The steering does help out. I notice it when powering over a slight rise in the road. The front end gets light and I used to get a little headshake out of it before I installed the dampner, it's non-existant now. The steering dampner is an improvment, I hate to take it off my street bike to put on my race bike.

The S2 is feeling strong with about 1800 miles on it. I'm feeding it some boost, under 5 lbs., but I'm waiting to turn 2k miles to give it much. I think I've resolved my fuel delivery problem, just needed some adjustment of the fuel pressure regulator.

It sounds like I may get away with having an exhaust outlet that points down. I was told that rule was specific to the dry lake beds, the none salt kind, because of dust. I have an email for one of the tech. inspectors but I have yet to confirm this.

I was also told, by the fellow who answered the phone for the USFRA, that I could pay class change fees at the event. He said it might be a good idea if I should blow up my engine on the first run. Probably sound advice.

Any input about mounting number plates? I was thinking about using the hard bag bracket for mounting points.

Anyone want to sell some low S2 bars?

I'll have pics of it by Friday. I am pretty sure it won't work for us, if you want it I'll ship it. I am getting it for very low cost.

Best of luck.

Roc,

We cannot use the tank. Send me your snail mail address and I will get it shipped. Don't worry about cost, I don't remember who we got it from or what it cost. We're bringing 4 bikes and only one is currently running. Final assembly of Buell starts tonite, engine dyno this weekend. I really want to get audio of what this beast sounds like. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hey guys ... let me toss something out. I ain't that crazy about any of the food at the Stateline. That buffet ain't bad, but that's the only one I like.

Last October, when Dale Amsden and Timbo Horton and I went to the World Finals with Dale's Sportster, we tried a different restaurant just on a whim. It's called "The Hideaway" or some such thing, it's just down the hill from the Stateline. It's a dirty little bar and grill kinda place. Best damn steak I ever had, no lie. They also have the walls in their back room lined with pictures of LSR vehicles. They asked me to send pictures and I sent pics of the RR, the Blast, and Dale's bike, so one or more of them *may* be hanging back there. Anyhoo, I think we ought to figure on at least one meal down there. It's not a huge place, not sure how many folks they can accomodate, we can give'em a call when we get to town and check.

Aaron,
Is that the place on the Utah side a mile or more from the border off on a sideroad perpendicular to I-80? Looks like someplace that was last painted in 1959, and looks like the perfect above-ground camoflauge to some top secret James Bond-esque underground complex? I almost stopped there last time I drove through the area.

Hmm, doesn't sound like it, it's practically right on the border. Pretty sure it's on the Nevada side though. The border crosses the street right at the entrance to the Stateline Hotel's parking lot (hence the name), in fact the Stateline's parking lot is in Utah and the casino is in Nevada. This place is due south of the casino, down the hill, in what's largely a residential area.
