I guess I wasn't being clear.

Does the information the DEALERS are receiving from Buell discuss the specifics of the change?

If the recall is to replace a bad batch of bolts, I can get grade-8 bolts from the hardware store, and someone else spoke about getting an updated pin.

I just don't like the idea of being 6 weeks out before fixing a known problem, especially when those 6-weeks occur during prime riding time...

Maybe this information is unknown or secret, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask (and if the stand breaks, it might hurt not to.)

I have a Lightning SS. I know this shares the frame with the Uly. Does the recall affect my bike?

Read the recall notice posted above.

My dealer ran my VIN (1/06 build) and said there were no existing recalls. Hmmmm...

I saved the message just in case.

Please understand this was announced hours, not days ago. Please take the "safely conservative" approach and check back next week.

Fair point. Scheduled for service next week. Will check again then.

Well I guess maybe the "sidestand leg service kit" I received a couple of weeks ago, part # L1167.1AK, IS the factory fix aside from the bolts.

As I posted on the broken sidestand thread this kit's installation instructions indicate it to be a replacement assembly for the pivot-bolt setup.

Just got back from a trip up to Idaho (Grand Teton HD in Idaho Falls gets my thumbs up by the way, I was so ticked about the pinging I asked them when they could look at it. They slid me in in front of other work and I was out within two hours. Factory timing on my bike? 5 Deg too far advanced! They retarded it back to spec, bike ran great and picked up several mpg).

I dropped in to a few dealers along the way, every Uly built before '06 still had the pivot bolt sidestand. The couple of May-June bikes I saw had the pivot pin stands. My local dealer has a 12/05 and a 11/05, both with the bolt.

My dealer also knows nothing about the sidestand problems, so I'm also glad to see that it's possible that Big Brother is cruising BadWeb. Enthusiast forums are big think tanks and factories would do well to take note.

Now that I have a recall number I'll visit my dealer tomorrow and see whether I can be reimbursed for L1167.1AK, if that is the official fixit kit.

Even if they decide "no", I won't like it, but at least for under $60 I've got a little peace of mind...

True, to the extent that "they" have the time and patience to separate the wheat from the chaff.
News groups tend to be more chaff than wheat, in my experience.
Over the last 10 years I've participated in many news groups and I must say that this one is by far the most coherent. However, we all tend to go "Chicken Little" at times...

The fax we got doesn't go into specifics. Neither does HDnet as to what the parts are for sure.

I can't speak for others here; but I'm happy just to know that a recall is in progress. I also know that it takes time. I'm sure in the next week or so, the dealers will all be up to speed.

I hope the dealers take this noncompliance recall seriously. And, move the "few" Uly's that each dealer will have to repair, to the front of the line. Just a thought.

I took my Uly in Monday afternoon, and got a call Wednesday morning that she was ready to be picked up. Sidestand, hand guard and left hard case had been replaced, making the bike good as new. Kudos to Stone Mountain HD / Buell for excellent and timely work.
