I've searched this forum and read a fair amount on both the Journeyman and Outdoorsman racks...but a lot of the information is based on the hard bags that the racks were made for. I'm looking for a side rack to use with my Wolfman Expedition bags (soft luggage). I'm trying to decide between the two HB options and the Happy Trails SL racks.

Journeyman Racks:
From what I can find the issue with the Journeyman racks is that it blocks the passenger footpegs. Is it the racks that block the footpegs or the hard bags that mount on the racks. Here are the part numbers I was able to find. Total cost is about $190.
- Right Side Rack - 90089-05Y
- Left Side Rack - 90085-05Y
- X-Brace - 90090-05Y

Outdoorsman Racks:
These racks appear to be positioned a little further back which requires a turn signal relocation bracket. Is the relocation bracket necessary due to the racks or the hard bags that were designed for the luggage. Total cost is about $250 Here are the part numbers based on other posts:
- Right Side Rack - M0255.1AU
- Left Side Rack - M0254.1AU
- X-Brace - M0253.1AU
- Turn Signal Relocate Bracket - M0232.1AUYT

Happy Trails SL Rack
I've read mixed reviews about the Happy Trails racks...it seems most required some tweaking to get them to fit right. I'm not sure if it was the SU (square tube) or SL (round tube) racks that were having the problems. Cost is about $200 for the SL rack and they are made in the USA which is a plus...but I'm not a huge fan of the black/silver wrinkle coat paint that they use.

The price of the Journeyman racks is tempting, but I would like to still be able to use my passenger footpegs. I know someone on here makes a relocation bracket, but I'd rather just buy the racks that would work they way I want from the start.

if i don't remember wrong the Journey is on the edge of touching the foot peg, but not any inconvenience for the passenger, they are wider than the junior and bigger, they save having to relocate the turn signals.

I can only speak to the Journey (Buell offering) I have.
The racks do NOT block the passenger pegs. In fact, they use the pegs brackets as an attachment point on the backside.

However, the large Journey hard bags can sometimes rub on the passenger footpeg itself in the folded up position. Just flip the pegs into the usable position (down) and it's not a problem.
Makes it a bit more challenging for a short passenger to get on, but is fine once they are onboard.

Thanks for the response guys!

I dug around a little and found the part number for the x-brace on the journeyman racks. The price also turned out to be about $50 which was more than I expected, so it raised the price of the setup to about $190...more competitive with the Outdoorsman racks.
