Left my home in the eastern U.P. on the 19th,super slab for 600 miles into southern ohio,then two lane thru west virginia and virginia to the blueridge parkway,rode that down till 23-441,took that south to macon Ga. then slab time to exit 423 in Fla. then two lane down to the family homestead in levy county. All totaled,1900 miles 0 oil consumption,41-mpg for the lowest tank and 60-mpg for the highest, most of the time high 40's. I really have enjoyed this bike for the last five years, but my knees can't take being locked in the same position for that long.On the last day I took 2 aleve tablets,and 3 motrin,but my knees were killing me,but as soon as I get off the bike they are fine. I suppose I must look for a gezzer-glide or something similar. Suggestions or comments are welcome. |

I had the same issue,My Uly was great for short runs,but interstate road trips would hurt.I traded it in on a Kaw Vaquero and highway trips are good now. I do miss the Buell occasionally. |

I hate the ergonomics on the Ulysses for the same reason, I can move around more and change positions on my 1125R, allowing it to be more comfortable than the Ulysses during the long hauls. |

I have very long legs . So long that my right knee does not fit in the curvature of the frame by the puck. I usually use a seat pad (Airhawk), but I will often stand up on the pegs for short spells, rest my feet on the rear pegs, or let my legs dangle and my ankles so they don't drag. If lowering pegs were available, I'd be all over that. But I haven't seen any... Bill |

I first saw forward highway pegs on Dave Barr's Uly. I though it was a nice idea, just a change of position now and then for longer straighter cruises. I don't really need it until after 100 miles at a stretch on superslab. |

I have the Palmer cruiser peg set up as well, but have not gotten around to installing it yet and probably won't until a trip of more than an hour or so because it will require me to add some mounting brackets on the Drummer. For anything under a couple of hours my lowered pegs are good enough. I do still intend a little more fine tuning of my handle bar position however ... and new grips. |

If a new but similar bike is in your sights, I'd suggest giving the Yamaha Super Tenere a try. The pegs are noticeably lower and wider, for a more relaxed leg position. You definitely do lose lean angle because of it, but you'll still have much more than a Geezer Glide. |

Thanks everyone for the feedback,I have thought about the palmer hi-way pegs,lowering the pegs won't help,it's not the position of my knee that hurts,it's the lack of positions |

Perhaps you could affix some sort of rotating pegs... something that would constantly be adjusting your foot position in a forward, backward, up, and down position, to allow you knees constant movement.

I sometimes put my legs up on the pucks.It's a nice stretch and it provides a nice cooling blast up your pant legs! |

Doug, I been riding dirt bikes since 1972. the 90's racing off road was hard on my knees. I have also been a couple lbs over weight for a while . I am now 52. I bought a bicycle for weight loss and to exercise my heart. I ride around 10 miles every couple days in my basement on a bike dyno (as I watch the Western channel). I discovered a nice side affect, my knees no longer hurt (and I have been loosing a little weight as well). It didn't take that much work (maybe 1 month) until the knees stopped hurting. Now I actually find myself wanting to ride my dirt bike again |

Davis bueller I did that,I must have looked like I was trying to imitate a v-rod, Towpro I ride my crf450x every weekend and at work I'm climbing and walking all day and my knees never bother me,it's that locked into 1 position that kills me. Maybe a triumph rocket III, that's only slight gezzerish,and would have room to stretch out a bit on. |

1" drop on your foot pegs makes all the difference to me. I can't ride a 1125 because of the leg room. I test rode a 1125CR on a 7 mile ride and had to stop and get off to stretch my legs before I got back to the dealer, I was never so happy as I was when that ride was over. I would try a 2" drop peg if I was you. |

The Palmer pegs are fantastic, especially when combined with a backrest, could not do a long ride w/o them, and for me, re-bending my stock bars to match my wrist ergos. |

Sounds like you really want a new bike for slabbing... Nobody can fault you for that. I would like a new bike, too. Actually, I've never owned a "new" bike. Just new-to-me bikes... Go for it. Bill |

Until Towpro's earlier post it didn't occur to me to mention that I suffer specifically from knee issues myself. Longer periods of time without changing position causes me a bit of discomfort as well. I had to have my ACLs replaced on both legs & even though everything works I do experience pain & discomfort not normal for my age & weight. All that being said (sorry for ramble) another non motorcycle remedy that I swear by is the supplement glucosimine (sp?). I have taken it twice a day for years now, and if I ever go even a little while without it I notice my knee issues a lot more. A 67day year old avid tennis player with knee problems told me years ago that nothing slowed him down as long as he had glucosimine, ibuprofen, & Coors Light. |

Just be sure research glucosamine chondroitin first. The one I tried seemed to work, but it was based on sodium and my blood pressure went way up |

I too have some knee issues when locked into position too long. I've been thinking of getting some highway bars for the bike. I've used the rear pegs to some relief. I may also drop the pegs another inch with the lower pegs and I only have a 31" inseam. Sometimes I let my legs dangle like others have mentioned, but that's on straight slab. |

I have an '06 as well, so I assume you already have the stock tall seat from that year. I am 6'-4" and 36" inseam and got the Uly because of the roomy riding position. Do you occasionally stand up and stretch? I put on bar risers to make it easy to ride the bike while standing. I stand up often on the expressway/highway to stretch and also to give my butt a break. I have aftermarket pegs, but at the same height as stock (I noticed a lot of aftermarket options do not have the drop down, so it effectively raised the peg height about 1" - not what I want!). It's also a lot cheaper than buying a new bike. |
