Anyone with the upgrade 2010 wheel on their Uly? Is it proving more reliable than old two bearing design? I know there has been a lot of talk about it, but haven't heard of any reports after installation.

Nothing to report. I did mention in a thread here somewhere that at my last tire change the bearings were still as "smooth as a babies behind"...

I did the upgrade about 2 years ago- no problems to report.

AFAIK we've only had one failure posted here with a 2010 wheel, and that was due to an improper bearing install which was corrected afterward.

I have a 2010 X. When I swapped out the tires last time, I had a devil of a time just getting them to turn. They felt smooth, just didn't turn very easily. My bike was a "factory pool" bike (not sure if that is the correct phrase). So I bought it as a used bike with 737 miles on it. The bike now has 10,461 miles on it. I have changed the back tire twice now and both times have followed the torque procedure to the letter. At any rate, I'm going to swap them out this winter as I wouldn't feel comfortable going on a long trip with the bearings as stiff as they are presently.

The apparent stiff feel of bearings may indicate nice well-lubed preloaded roller bearings. When the axle is removed the significant compression that it exerts upon the hub spacer is eliminated. Thus the hub spacer pushes outward against the inner races of the wheel bearings. That preload, which is counter-acted by axle tensioning will make the bearings feel stiff.

Thing is to ensure proper axle torque and that the bearings are well lubed and turning/running smoothly.

What I'm saying is that when you properly install brand new rear wheel bearings, they'll be as stiff or even stiffer feeling than what you have now on account of the preload imparted by the hub spacer.

Keep the info coming please! I wanted to know about this, since I'll be getting a 2010 wheel for Xmas gift. I was wondering if it is a truly worthwhile upgrade or should I just go with some All Balls replacement bearings.

The new wheel with three bearings not to mention three bigger bearings is absolutely worth it. No doubt whatsoever. Buell wouldn't have gone to the trouble otherwise.
