I'm looking for an XB12X owner from the Madison area who would be willing to help develop a portable jack to support the bike for side-of-the-road wheel removal or even the dreaded belt change.

FDKLR (Brian) over on advrider makes a moto jack that works very well for many bikes. As you'll see from the advrider thread <http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38 0877>, Brian's workmanship and customer service is top class and I can attest to this having worked long distance with him in trying to improve the Uly version. But, it would be much easier to do if he could work with somebody local to him (I'm in Pennsylvania) and I told him I'd post on here to see if I could find a badwebber that he could meet up with as he doesn't have ready access to a Uly.

Some details, the jack supports the bike in a tripod arrangement along with the sidestand and one of the wheels and is very stable with most bikes. In the Uly version, however, the jack takes the weight of the bike down through the center of the muffler. The base of the jack is very close to the center of gravity of the bike and isn't as stable as it would be if the cog was squarely within the triangle formed by the jack, the sidestand, and the wheel.

Please post here or pm me and I'll get in touch with Brian to make arrangements.

2 thoughts:
1) xxx (thought #1 removed because I just read through the thread on ADVRider to see what he was making. Interesting.)
2) There is absolutely no need to jack the bike up or remove the wheel when changing the belt. Again, I know that's not your point entirely, but if that's a primary reason to engineer something it would be a waste of effort...

Good luck with the project, I'm truly not trying to crap on it, just sharing some thoughts!

Look at the tripod jack I posted a while back. It's simple and weighs 7 oz. Don't over complicate it. KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid.

Andy - agreed on not needing a jack but sometimes it's convenient to not have to make do!

lol, I hope all of the effort in that pic isn't just to change a belt tho! Belt changing is a 15 minute, no jack needed, no wheel removal needed process on the Uly.....that's all I'm saying.

I can see the jack having usefulness for failed bearings. Had a Uly lose it's bearings on the way to Homecoming last year. We removed the axle, got a couple guys on the rear of the bike, lifted, removed wheel, set bike down on swingarm, took wheel to shop for new bearing install and repeated in reverse order. : p

Buell Jack

Is this the jack you're referring too? My Uly is the one in the picture.

Ourdee - looked back through the board and that tripod looks good - I like the wide base area.

Andy - the picture is from a road trip over Easter weekend last year when I discovered that the rear D616 can go from legal to showing cords in less than five hundred miles. Fortunately, Howard (Xbduck), a badwebber and BRAN member came to the rescue and helped us on our way without much loss of riding time. Kudos again to Howard and BRAN.

Mayerhd - that indeed looks like the one though the one I have is the aluminum version.

I put a member in touch with Brian already but I don't know how their schedules are going to mesh so it's good to have a second offer. Thanks! I'll pm you.
