Anyone out there have a quick & dirty, better than the book, method of changing brake pads, front and rear? |

I'd like to know too. I need to swap out my front pads and I don't want to remove the wheel. |

Someone passed this link onto me and said he tried it and it worked for him, I have personally tried it. I am replacing my rotor & brake pads at the same time so I'm going to remove wheel. Here is the link I was forwarded... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK6A_z3kcYQ&feature =related Here is the link he also forwarded me to remove the tire and change the pads out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXfELJyAwFA (Message edited by estresco on June 25, 2011) |

assuming you have a ZTL caliper and not a ZTL2 (I've not changed pads on a ZTL2 before), it's about as simple as it gets- carefully pry the pads all the way open, pull the pin/bolt, slide old pads out, reverse. Seriously about a 5 minute job. |

Andy, I'd say 10 min but that's with a blindfold! |

I replaced them this morning. It took about 10 minutes. I didn't realize I could slide the new pads in without removing the caliper. Thanks! |

The video showed the guy loosening the caliper. Is this unnecessary? |

You can loosen the caliper so you have the ability to "twist" it against the rotor, helping to spread the pads. Is it me, or do other people always remove the pads before removing the caliper so the front wheel can be removed? That would kinda put the pad removal at...um...step one. |

I've never removed the pads before when removing the wheel. |

Maybe it's just habit from my tuber days...it's the ONLY way to get a tuber caliper off. Been doing that for so long, I just keep doing it that way even with the inside-out rotor... |
