My buddy just called and his uly is doa just north of Moscow Id. The battery only has 10.2 volts, connections are tight. Does any body have any ideas for solutions that can be done roadside? |

My stator died last trip I took, could be something as simple as the 77 connector being bad. There are lots of threads on here about that. If not that it is most likely the voltage regulator or stator. The voltage reg is easy, but the stator requires pulling the primary. |

I just talked to them again, I had them unplug the 77 connector, it looked good, they then unhooked the neg bat terminal and reconnected it. Bike is now running and charging. Now they have to decide whether to go on to Canada or head for home. I told'em I would go ahead, seems to me that one of those connections was bad, I don't think a stator or voltage reg would heal it's self. |

Not likely. Mine would charge but not at the normal voltage. The battery would slowly drop. Could be a bad ground connection back at the subframe, they're bad about that as well. |

I just called a BadWebber in Spokane. Left a voice mail for him. He is on the BRAN-Buell Rider Assistance Network. He has a truck and trailer, tools and beer. Do you still need him? |

You don't say what year . . but I'd also suggest checking that ground connection (easy to get to, easy to tighten) under the seat. |

Two Seasons, as far as I know it is now charging and they are going to turn for home. I'm thinking that taking the 77 apart and reconnecting restored connectivity, so I think they are OK for now. Thank you very much if any thing changes I will get back to you. Court, it's a 06, I passed on your suggestion, thanks |

See my post in this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/638564.html?1308779732 Have them go to Home Depot. Get the kit out of the aisle that has CATV and phone wiring stuff, and get a pack of heat shrink tubing. Cut out the 77 connector (MARK THE WIRE THAT SHOULD MATCH THE RED WIRE BEFORE CUTTING). Install the kit and continue the trip. I've had this "kit" on my bike for about 12k miles now, and have had rock-solid voltage ever since I installed it. No hiccups, no problems...and with nearly 25k miles on my '06, I still have the FACTORY BATTERY. |

+1 to what Ratbuell said. The TINYEST burned spot or spot of corrosion on the terminals in the 77 connector will result in NO charging. |

It just baffles me to see how small the damage can be on those 77 connectors and cause not just a weak charging system but a dead charging system. That connector is supposed to hold something like 35Amps? |

It's no different than a bad spark plug wire. "Some" throughput doesn't equal "charging". Need to have it going full-force for everything to work. Put a kink in a garden hose. Sure, you can water your garden...if you have all day. Same theory here. |

I guess you have a point there. How many amps does an XB need to run? Fuel pump, ignition, all the lights... Probably need something on the order of 20A just to break even. A far cry from my '79 XLH. That thing's generator died about two hours from home at night. Solution: Turn off headlight and ride home. Points ignitions don't take much I guess. Battery measured 10V when I got home. still running fine |
