For the homecoming trip I did about 3300 miles over 8 days. For the return trip home I did about 1400 miles over two days. Not epic numbers, but a fair bit of riding. By the last day, I was really dreading getting back on the bike because my butt hurt so bad.

I have a 2010 XT with the stock seat. It has been fine to me up to now, but I haven't put the miles on this bike like did on this trip. I would really like to get something more comfortable, but I am not sure what to do. I know seat comfort is quite subjective and many really like the 2006 seat. I am thinking more along the lines of a Sargeant seat of another after market seat. I am also thinking about an airhawk pad or something else. I don't really want a taller seat if I can find something comfortable that doesn't add much height.

I hesitate to ask because of the many differing opinions, but has anyone here tried an aftermarket seat and what did you think? Also, has anyone tried things like an airhawk pad or sheepskin or anything else and what did you think about that?

Thanks

I've got an Alaska sheepskin for my 07 with the standard seat (same as your seat). The sheepskin helps, but I want to try a different seat at some point.

Zac4mac has a Baldwin seat on his Uly. I sat on it, but didn't put any mileage on it, but it looks like a winner. Still, the 07+ stock seat works great for me.

My 08XT has me riding on the tank, I would like to try a stock 06 seat or a tall as they call them.

After riding to Homecoming and back, I give the Baldwin seat a HUGE thumb's-up.
I won't say my butt didn't hurt a little, I rode straight thru, almost 1100 miles.

I will say it's a lot more comfortable than I expected, lots better than the OEM foam.

OEM works well for home rides, but any long trips get Loren's seat installed.

The pillion and I were utilizing the stock '09 Uly XT seat with Alaska Leather sheep pads for the HC trip and were more than willing to get off the bike every hour after the first day. Time to check out Baldwin or another similar touring seat!

I really like the 06 tall seat I put on my 08 XT. Much better than the stock seat which seemed to tilt me forward too much.

Really though, I have not seen a perfect motorcycle seat yet. Some of you guys ride some pretty good distances in one shot. To ride that many miles in one day takes quite a few hours, even if you exceed the speed limit. My ass would even get sore setting in a recliner for that amount of time!

I used to have a Gold WIng Aspencade that I drove 600 to 700 miles a day and I was sure glad to get off the bike at the end of the day. Has any one of you ever had a bike that had a seat which never became uncomfortable after a long day? Thanks.

My 1125CR. It is more comfy than my Uly.

I also retrofit a 2006 seat on my 2008.
Best $50 I spent on the bike so far.
It straightened my knees out just that last bit more. The foam is a bit dense though. Also, I think I could do without having the little step between front and rear seat areas.
Perhaps I will have the 2008 seat repacked so that it's the same height all the way front to rear.

The best seat I ever had was made by Diamond Seat of Carter Lake, Iowa. Cal the owner at that time would measure your leg length and then create the most comfortable seat you can imagine. I did a thousand mile day once with that seat and my butt was just fine. The seat went with the Yamaha Venture Royale when it was sold. Cal sold the business and now Diamond Seats are made in Florida. I think for awhile they were in Kentucky. The seats look the same though. The trick was building the seat up under your thighs to spread the weight out. Here's the website for whoever is interested. http://www.diamondseats.com/index.html

Mostly what my butt likes on a long ride is differing positions and seat feel. That is what I like about the stock '06 Uly seat. As long as I don't have junk in my way(or a passenger for that matter) I can ride this thing very easily over 700 miles per day.

I like the pillon being shaped different and the different feel of the foam as I slide back onto it. I need to move around for my knees as much as for my butt.

I cannot see a seat being designed for me that I could just park my butt into for twelve to fourteen hours a day, and not have room to move around. Heck, I cannot sit in a lazyboy lounger all day. I have to move around. I probably would have felt the same about it years ago - pre back injury days, and before elder gimpyness had set in.

Anyone know where I can get an 06 stock seat.

I have a 09 XT stock seat now.

Now referred to as the 'tall' seat.

I just ordered one for the '10 Uly, from Bumpus, said it would take about a week for them to get it.

Seat lists $111.00... get you 10% badweb discount plus 10 shiping for total : $109.95.

what is the best remedy for the excessive heat, I have an 06 uly (tall seat) and on a ride of any distance it feels like i am sitting on a campfire...I don't think my Firebolt ever came close to being this hot.

I have heard about an air-filled seat cushion that adds lots of miles. Cannot remember the name of it. Like to get one actually.

Eulysses,

The Air Hawk http://www.therohostore.com/Departments/Comfort-Pr oducts/AIRHAWK-Motorcycle-Seat-Cushions.aspx

I have both the rider and passenger. I highly recommend them. I have had several 12 hour days plus a Saddle Sore 1000 using it. Highly recommended.

Not quite as solved as some would have you believe, but much better for sure. I've got the comfort kit and the reflash. I still get sweaty ball syndrome, but not the burning thigh thing as much.

It's a definite improvement, but not the total end of the heat issues for me.

Comfort kit plus the front section of Odie's "Uly Maximum heat barrier" did it for me.

Just adding the comfort kit, I actually got a more inner thigh heat on the right... putting the front part of the heat barrier made a significant difference on mine.

I'd agree. I put the first retrofit Comfort Kit on just before I did a 750 day and it made a world of difference.

I have Odie's heat barrier as well... Still get warmer than I'd like in the crotch. Next I'm trying some foam weatherstripping tape between the seat and frame.

I'm also starting to wonder if getting the tall seat would help as well - give me a bit of extra space from the heat.

How much higher is the tall seat though? I don't have an abundance of leg height, and that would be one concern for me...

IIRC its 1.5 inchs higher than the current stock seat.

I have an 06 with the tall seat and the comfort kit. I think I'm getting more heat on my right thigh than I was before.

Question...is there two different "tall" seats? Mine has two seams running just below my thighs that can get uncomfortable fairly quickly especially in Georgia heat and I-75 5pm traffic. Other than that I like the seat.

is that the "new" tall seat or the old one with the seams that hurt?

If you look on the Buell site.. it lists that part number as the Tall seat.. my '06 parts manual also lists that as the stock seat.

Either way, for me, its 100% better than the stock '10 seat.

I 'sort of/maybe??' recall someone mentioned in a thread that the 'tall' seat cover had been udpated to eliminate the seams.

I'll find out in a week or 2 when my new one gets in.
