I was was out riding hardyesterday and my check engine would come on then go off. It was very hot out and the bike ran Great.I was running the snot out of it. When I parked the bike the fan ran for a long time (I do have the flash). I don't have a spy cable and hope I don't need it with an 08xt. Is a code storred every time the light comes on. If it is I will take it to my Dealer and let him tell me what I did wrong this time

As long as it goes off I wouldn't worry about it. It just means you were outside some parameter set in the ECM. Hot day plus hard riding could certainly do that.

A few weeks back the fan burned up in my Uly while I was 6+ hours from home on the first day of a 3 day group ride. It was a hot weekend. I just rode the snot out of it anyway. The bike actually seemed to run better hot than it did with the fan running. The insides of my legs didn't like it much though.

There will probably be a code stored for the o2 sensor, open or out of range.

Write the particulars of the event, down, in your log book and mention it at your next service.

When the MIL indicator does not self extinguish, is when it's time to be concerned.

If the light came on then there should be a stored code. For peace of mind you should probably find out what it is.All you need is a jumper wire to short pins 1 and 2 in the diagnostic connector.A quick search of the forum should give you the details.Let us know what numbers you get and one of us can tell you what they're for.

Just an FYI, if the code has been stored, you know this by the start up process.

Turn the bike on, engine light should stay on for 4 seconds then go out, if four seconds later the light comes back on for another 4 seconds then goes back out again, you have a code stored.

If the light goes out after the initial 4 seconds when you turn the bike on and does not come back on again, you don't have a stored code.

If the engine light goes out, comes on again and stays on, you have a problem you need to get fixed.

last fall, my light would come on and off once in awhile.

put it in the barn for a couple winter months.

this spring it came on and stayed on.

It was a bad exhaust actuator.

Mine started coming on under hard acceleration a couple of weeks ago. Wind it up fast to about 6 or 6 1/2 and the light would come on for a bit. Then last weekend I was leasurely poking down the road with the missus on the back. The light came on and stayed on. And the speedo went DEAD. Got it home, parked it for about an hour. Started it back up and it has been fine ever since.

It is now in the shop. I'll report back with what I find out.

Yankee,

Mine is doing that also. On mine it's caused by one of the connectors being cracked from the seat pan hitting it. The Erik Buell Racing ECM eliminated the problem for me.

Well it is back and the shop did nothing. There were a couple of codes stored. One was related to the lean angle sensor. Which sort of makes sense as I did have the bike pretty far over when it came on the first couple of times.

The other error code was some sort of non-specific item. Anyway the tech made a note of them and reset. ????? Not sure how comfortable I am with that.

They did find a couple of oil leaks while they were in there; one head gasket and a seal around the clutch cable. Seapage only. Replaced under warrenty.
