OK, so here's one I haven't seen discussed yet. Any information you smart fellers can help shed on this would be appreciated;
About the time my clutch went, my fan quit working - but only when the bike is turned on! At first I thought I couldn't hear it just because of the motor, and then when I switched the bike off tonight the fan comes on. Even more strange, both the key and the kill switch must be off in order for the fan to run. Needless to say, this doesn't help cool the engine in rush hr. traffic. Both the high speed and low speed of the fan works. Another oddity, about the same time this started, my needle sweep tests, when the bike is energized before starting, are now erratic. Sometimes only the tach test works, sometimes speedometer, sometimes both. But once the bike is started, these work fine.
When I go to the service manual, the only fixes they suggest in the flow charts is, replace fan, or replace ECM. I know the fan works good. Could the ECM have lost SOME of its marbles? If so, how do I get all the marbles back? How do you reset the ECM to it's original flash(which btw has never been changed or reflashed to my knowledge)Is it time to spend $250 on the Erik Buell Racing ECM? The bike still runs perfect other than this fan thing.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Greg

Did the fan used to come on before while in traffic? Before my comfort kit reflash, it rarely came on while riding... mostly only when I would stop.

Do the simple stuff first.
Clean all the grounds, there is the big ground strap, engine to frame ground under the air intake, don't forget that one.

Yep, I'm checking everything I can, all connections.
Trevd, the fan did used to come on in traffic and stay on for the 2 mins. after turning the bike off. Now it only comes on when the bike is turned off. Weird.
I think my ECM is confused, but I don't know if it's possible or how to reset the ECM back to it's default settings(factory) without buying a new one.

Check your engine temp sensor, it's the "trigger". If it's gone wonky and not showing a hot enough temp, you could get the symptoms you're seeing...

Thanks Ratbuell, I'll check that next. The good thing is, that the bike does fine without the fan as long as you don't get into stop n go traffic. Interesting conversation on the Skip-Spark thread. That's giving me new ideas now.
