At least a couple of people who attended Homecoming last month mentioned that Buell stated new, improved rear wheel bearings for the Uly were in production and would be available by August. IIRC it was stated the new bearings would have improved seals to prevent water intrusion which Buell said had caused the failures they had studied. Does anyone have an update on these yet? |

Would these also be recommended for the xb12s? It just seems to be the Ulys having wheel bearing failures. |

New Improved Wheel Bearings? This is news to me. From a post by Crusty on July 25: "Abe Askenazi told me at Homecoming that there was an upgraded bearing that should be available by the end of this month, if it isn't already. He said that water damage was the cause of the bearing failures that they investigated, and that water was getting into the bearings through damaged/inadequate seals. He seemed pretty positive that the upgraded bearing would end the issue. I believe him." link to post: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=1206938#POST1206938 |

I have no info on a revised OEM bearing, but I definitely believe water intrusion is what killed my OEM rear bearings. That is why I went with another brand, not because the OE's were made in Taiwan. I figured I would try out another brands seal design and see if it is any better. Couldn't be much worse. I am within 1000mi of needing a new rear tire, so I will check bearing when I do this. I have about 4000mi on my replacement rear bearings so far (SKF's). |
