Treadmarks, thanks for all your hard work and contributions here. I'll be ordering new 'TREES' this week.

I didn't mean to hijack this thread. So maybe a new thread is in order for the names of the stuff we use.

Treadmarks, back to you.

Once again Treadmarks nice work. As for the Triple trees-Triple clamps depending on which side of the tracks you are on debate, read this and decide for yourself. Then keep it to yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_fork

Just a quick observation while trying to work out Maximum's inquiry about getting the fork lock to work- The ignition switch assy is the same part number for 06 as it is for 08, meaning that it has not been modified. So something else changed that I haven't quite figured out... Will keep the thread posted.

Andy,

Check the lock pin, as it has to be longer to make up for the difference, if it is available seperately....Or, the new frame (which is a different part number) has a relocated (thicker) socket for the pin to fit in.

2007 fork springs Part # J0113.2AK
2008 upper tree part # J0105.3AKYBD
2008 lower tree part # J0106.3AKYBD

Is this all I will need? Just want to make sure before I take the bike apart....

Thanks!

Your handlebars will be relocated about 1/2" forward. American Sport Bike has Rox risers that will bring them back and up as well, if you think you might need it. Rerouting the throttle cables may be necessary, but they do not need to be replaced. You will need to disconnect the clutch cable, as it is threaded through the top tree. That will also be an excellent time to lube the sheit out of the clutch cable. Also a good time for fork maintenance, mods or fluid change.

A shop manual would seem to be a really good idea if you don't already have one.

that part number is for 1 fork spring. So you would have to order a quantity of 2 for that part number.

23.25 x 2 = 46.50 retail

Alright, straight from the horses mouth- the pin is what changed, however they were unable to give me a part number-which leads me to wonder if it has to come with the ignition switch then why wouldn't the part number for 08 be diff...still researching.

Interesting to hear about how this mod is going for people,Buell will run out of spare Yolks at this rate as they're all bought up to sort out the '06/'07 bikes!
I don't do much narrow track off-road stuff myself so have got used to the lack of steering lock but there are times it would be useful.

I know I'm a bit late on this one but I think you'll find you're all wrong with the name of the parts which hold the fork legs,it's YOKE (top yoke and bottom yoke)and seeing as how we're talking about Harley type engines it's still very appropriate as the name surely stems from horse and cart days.lol.

I'm already using American phrases from too much time spent on Yank websites so I've decided to try and stick to English English a bit more, the reason being when I took Ulyrat for the 10,000 mile service the mechanic looked at me funny when I told him it was pinging-I'd forgotten that us Limeys say Pinking (don't why-sorry)and then I remembered hearing my Dad saying it years ago talking about his vintage cars (vintage being properly vintage as in 1920s not some 1970s job!).

Sorry to threadjack again, yeah maybe someone should start a separate thread for alternative phrases/words.

Andy: maybe the original Uly ignition switch was amended...so the current part numbers would be the same. If you looked up the ignition switch part number in the original '06 parts manual, maybe it is different from what the computer says for the current '06 part number.

So it would be like the new '08 pin setup will work fine in the '06-'07 setups, but the original '06-'07 pin will not work in the '08 setup.

I don't know, so just a guess.

I know what your saying Steve. Thats pretty much what I was thinking as well and so I phoned back to inquire a 2nd time and now I'm waiting on a return call once they get done double checking the blueprints: ) I checked for any superceded numbers and nothing turned up from 06-08 on the ignition switch, the only p/n that turns up diff is the frame. So I'm going to have to wait for them to come up with solid info. Sorry for the waiting games.

The frame side of the fork lock has to be thicker for the pin to reach. The 06-07 pin boss can be modified to work, I just haven't got there yet as I never use my fork lock.

Ohh...And I am having waaay too much fun riding this bike to look into the steering lock issue. Cooler weather, perfect running engine, loads of torque and power everywhere, comfortable riding position, perfect ergos, tracks like it's on rails...mah nipples are so stiff I can't hardly get mah shirt on.

Since the '08 trees/clamps/yokes push the bars forward, does the '08 use a different handlebar to compensate?

Well, Honda refers to the upper (tree/clamp) as "bridge, fork top" and the lower (tree/clamp) as "stem sub-ass
y, steering." So there...

08 & 07 springs the same part #? I thought they went to a larger fork dia for 08. Would this not mean a larger spring as well? Any one have the price/part # for the 08 forks? Perhaps adding the new 08 forks would enhance the overall mod by TM. Cheaper than a trade in.

06 springs are single rate.
07 are progressive rate.
