i have an 04 xb9s. the belt broke on sunday, and i bought a new 06 belt to replace it. when i went to put the belt on i noticed that the belt isnt the right kind. the teeth area bigger and dont catch into either sprocket? does this mean that i have an 03 belt on my 04 bike? did they make some 04's with the 03 belt and belt system? |

(weird i thought i made this post already) i confirmed that i have the 03 belt. i bought a new o3 belt (part number G0500.02A8R) from the local harley store (that swears the 06 belts are not compatible with 04 bikes). i compared it to the broken belt and it matches. so i do have the 03 belt and pulleys. sucky. heres the best pic i have of that angle.

Yes your bike does have the first generation pullies and belts, aka 2003 year. What year does your frame say on the bike up by the stearing head? 2004 XB9S was black or yellow in color.. Than in 2005 went to the City X. |

G0500.1AAA for the 04/05's was superceeded to G0500.1AAE for 04/07 so if your bike is an 04, either of those part numbers should work on it. G0500.02A8R is the newest version of the 03 belt, if you got one of those it should be the wrong one |

ya, my registration says that i have an 04 bike...so i bought the 06 belt. when i tried to put it on, it didnt fit. i then compared it with the old broken belt and its not even close. i exchanged it for the G0500.02A8R belt and that looks just like the old broken one. so ya, maybe my bike was born on a leap year |

Wow....that's funny because my '03 belt broke on Sunday as well..... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/284066.html?1181520760 Check it out. Just in the process of changing the belt myself. Those '03 Belt Guards are an extreme pain in the a$$ to get off..... Good luck! |

Also noticed that your bike has the shorter '03 passenger brackets. |

Just read my post again. I made a mistake. 2003 XB9S was yellow and black. I think that they ran the same colors in 2004 too. For the life of me I cant think today what colors where the bikes in 2004??? Its late.. So looking at your bike and frame stamped. You have a 2003 not a 2004 year bike. I could be wrong...But if you could just check the title and see what year or run your vin number through HD that would also tell you for sure... Anyways..hope that helps. Oh and for the love of god do not in anyway bend your new belt backwards or twist it sideways at all. I just hope when you got it from the dealer it was still in the box still sealed and not taken out... If you do it will be toast in a few hundred miles and break again.. Take your time putting it on and dont twist it anyway at all!!! |
