Whenever one sees a photograph of a nicely turned out Buell, it is always taken from the right side. Am I correct? The reason: the left side, or what we called the "on side" back in the day, is just a little bit, shall we say, homely?
I made one or two little changes to Lil' Blackie, and voila, compliments from both sides of the street.
The mods include: 1. Painting the inspection ports to match the primary chain case, using Buell spray Touch up paint # M0310.1AAYBQ Magnesium tone. Pretty good, not perfect match. ( Thanks Daves), 2. Replaced the wart like stock air intake with Trojan Low Profile units painted to match the frame with Rustoleum High Heat Barbeque Paint I just happen to have lying around. Excellent color match, and heat resistant too. 3. Fitted an Original Drummer muffler. If there is anything prettier than a Fatlet sticking out of the left side of one's bike, I sure don't know what it is. That's all there is to it, but I really like the way it looks. Don't you? |

LOOKS REAL SCHWEEET THERE JON! how do you like them air scoops? did you notice any difference w/ fan operation? i was thinking of taking the mesh out for more airflow..not sure though as i think it looks pretty slick w/ them in. edit---forgot to say that i just changed out my broken primary and i used some spray on bed liner stuff in a can from walmart and it was a near perfect match to the clutch/chain covers. almost the same texture also.. Well, all my oil seeps are on the LHS... (you know, those ones the H-D tech tells me are "normal") |

Eric, Thanks. I put the Trojan scoops on very soon after I got the bike, so I can't really compare with stock. I will say that compared to my old Nine, the fan operation seems about the same, maybe a bit less. As you know, the Trojan kit is composed of two scoops, one on the left and one on the right for the sole purpose of cooling the rear cylinder. Even though the left scoop is a bit smaller, together, they most likely flow more air. |

I happen to like the left side more since the swingarm and frame layout looks so cool...the swingarm looks so large and beefy on that side. Now that I think about it, my profile pic shows more of the right side...I should dig up something on the other side and post that instead... |

My profile pic is of the left side, and I just took a picture two days ago that I think I'll replace it with - similar angle, but I really like the way the sun's hitting things. ...my profile pic was also taken before the black headers and various other goodies were added. Since I never bothered to replace my cam cover after my spill in North Carolina years ago, the left side of my bike is actually it's 'good side'! The only angle I think the Firebolts look odd from is directly in front or behind, because they're so skinny. Any other angle makes them look much beefier due to the lines of the bike. My profile pic is of the left side. Shows off the rizoma clutch cover, unfortunately it hides my norris performance sprocket cover on the other side. You've caused a crisis now Jon! I'll have to alternate profile pics because my bike doesn't have an "off-side"! |

Gentleman_jon, anymore pics of your bike with the low profile air scoops - I've been thinking of them and waiting to see how they look. |

Warren, Did you happen to take a look at "Lil" Blackie: the official portrait" just below on this board. I really like the low profile intakes. Balance the look of the bike. |

Thanks for the compliments Brian and Jon! I've done some more since that pic and the one in my profile. I post them soon. I also made the front page on killboy.com back in May, memorial day weekend. They loved it up there. |

Brian if your bike is like an already sexy girl in a very sexy long dress, then does that make those of us that have Firebolts with stock fairings sexy girls in sexy miniskirts? I think so. Sam |

I have a question though, what's up with the "hero pegs" still on a bunch of the bikes pictured? I remove those within minutes of purchasing any sport bike. Hero pegs are the feelers on the bottom of the pegs that touch down on the asphalt first when you lean over into a corner. The stock ones on the XB are HUGE. They un-thread just like any other bolt. |

Thanks typeone.....Barber Motorsports at a Buell Track Day 2 weeks ago with some of my 3%ers. Pristine track. Most fun I have ever had on a bike. I am working on a slide show and will post when it is complete. |
