@Willmrx, you replace the plugs every 2,500. doesn't the front replacement require an engine rotation? |

I completely agree. I do everything myself if at all possible. Everytime I have a "pro" do something, 9 times out of 10 I am pissed because they took a shortcut to save time/make their life easier or they are just plain dumb. And something like a valve check where everything is basically hidden when you get it back would scare me to death. DId they even check the valves? For instance, I recently took my rear wheel into the shop for new rubber. I had a barely used Q3 rear I scored for free off a wrecked bike. SImple enought right? I got the newly mounted tire home and noticed about 10 wheel weights. When I did this myself I never went over 4-5. Upon further inspection I found the dot (a bit faded but visible for anyone who cared to look for it) on the opposite side from the valve stem...so back to the dealership to complain. Of course, they can't just apologize and fix it. They service counter guy says it could be the fact its a used tire causing the excessive amount of weight to balance it and YES they look for the dot, BUT they will still redo it if I wanted. They spun the tire to the correct position. 1 weight required to balance it. I'm sure everyone has multiple stories of their own as well. |

Years past on this message board, many 1125 owners were finding the valves getting tight (out of spec) at roughly 7,500 miles to 8,000 miles (if memory serves), well below the recommended initial valve adjustment interval (12,500 miles). Did anyone here find this to be true for their 1125? That is, your 1125 having too tight of a valve adjustment at mileage well below the 12,500 mile mark? I was told that 2 of eight needed to change at my 12K. I was pissed and said nothing. I had asked that they all be loosest of spec. |

The initial valve adjustment is the most important and is best done at 5K. The valves need to cut into the valve seats for the first time. After 5K, the tightening of the valves reduces significantly. In many cases, there is less tightening at 25K than there was at 12.5K. However; the higher the RPM you run it, the more the valves pound into the seats. |

Danny, Are you saying the shop or person doing the valve adjust only went into the engine and measured the valve clearance, found 2 of 8 valve clearances out of spec, and then did nothing to adjust the valves? And then buttoned-up the engine/bike with the valves out of spec? . |

Fresnobuell. No you do not need to rotate the engine to removed the front plug. It takes a little effort but can be done. You remove the intake snorkel and then the coil can be pulled and twisted out, the lower part of the coil is flexible enough to remove it. |

Squish That IS what it sounded like to me. I was a bit stunned, I was pretty explicit with the service writer. |

Danny - I took that to mean 2 were OOS and were replaced, the rest were not touched(in spec). Z |

As far as "intervals" the first is most important so you know where they are. My 08 got broke in quick, she had 7k miles at 6 months. At 12k all were still in spec on the tight side. At 25k 6 of 8 were OOS by .0005 - .001" and all got changed to the loose side of spec. She has 38k now and is waiting for me to install the 1190 kit, at which point I will re-shim also if needed. Z |

Warzecha, Thanks the information from your experience with the Rotax 1125 valve clearance versus mileage. |

I did my first check at 24k. All were within spec. Now at 36k. Still runs great but I will be doing another check in the next couple of months |

You guys are either lucky or ride like your bikes very conservatively. Checked mine before 7,000 and 6 of 8 were tight. Right on the edge of out of spec. I ride this beast pretty hard though, got to keep up with my son you know. |
