That would be sweet, Court. As you can imagine, that was the loss that hurt most. Not sure I have the technology on the road with this tablet to send a pm but I'll certainly get back to you on that. And otherwise, so far, so good. No new rattles or leaks. Happy 4th of July to all y'all. |

A scheduled day off in Lava Hotsprings will instead be used to search up a welder for the cracked oil tank. On the positive side, I've learned you can rent a car unlimited mileage for only a c note per day. So we'll be at the S2 owner's rally regardless. In hindsight, trailering has its merits for a bike nearing 90k miles. |

If you're renting a car just get the bike here and we'll put my oil tank on it in the meantime. |

Jaci and I are overnight in Ft Collins after a nice dinner with Ross and his lovely wife Ranae. Our rear tire has disappeared in the heat faster than e/pected so we're putting on a new one tomorrow before heading out to Estes Park. |

Good seeing everyone!! I rolled back into home at 4:00 this afternoon. Heat index was 102!! My reason for slipping out this morning at sunrise. David I was riding this beast. The S2 was tucked away at home in the garage. Eric and Jackie SCORE HUGE points for riding their S2 to the gathering. A couple of brown trout I caught on Thursday. Some of the local wildlife near the motel. (Message edited by gowindward on July 13, 2015) |

It was nice to meet Dan and Ross at NRHS and to tour the shop and visit with the guys. It was also nice meet and visit with Jaci and Eric on Friday afternoon. Thanks to Ross for his willingness to hand out the decals and S2 cards for me - sorry I had to leave Friday night and miss out on the events. Looks like it was fun - (hopefully no vacation interruptions next year!) R |

No problem. I handed out decals to all the S2 owners who were at the shop Friday, but I forgot to take them with me to the Stoney River Lodge. So I need addresses from Bart, Loren, and Shane, and I'll send your decals out to you . |

500 miles to go. No more oil out the tranny vent since Rawlins. However, three days of mystery leak at the front that is probably pushrod tube lower. And now, since yesterday, a blown fork seal, brake side. Should have rode the Duc, I sometimes think. But its a vintage bike to a vintage bike rally and troubles are to be expected. She's always gotten us home. |

See, Shane. You should have brought the Buells. Those German-built bikes just can't be trusted. Seriously, if I wasn't on Vancouver Island, I'd come rescue you with the car and trailer. I now have three sets of S2 shocks needing rebuilds. Gotta get an order in to American Sport Bike when we get home. Speaking of which, we made it home Friday. Spent two hours walking about 4 miles of highway 20, looking for my lost luggage one more time. I was strangely surprised we didn't find it. Had an hour at home to re-fit the Ducati's front wheel and brakes, then took it to the Island for the kids birthday. Really looking forward to getting home. |

Better late than never, here is my ride report from the S2/Buell rally. But first a little backstory, a few years ago while riding home from Springfast on me XB through Salt River Canyon, at night, in a blinding monsoon, I caught a rock with my front wheel. It dented the rim but held air and got me home, since then I have put several front tires on it without problems. This will make sense later. Also, I had ridden my 1125R to Sedona the weekend before for my wife's birthday event and wanted to ride the XB to Colorado because it has a more comfortable seating position. So, on Thursday morning I headed to Albuquerque. On I10 to Lordsburg NM the 70 and 90 to Silver City. The bridge was out, being rebuilt, so down throught town I went. I was thundering and raining just slightly. Over to hwy152 to Kingston and Hillsboro, on the way my front tire went down. I couldn't find anything in the tire and limped the few miles into Kingston. There the local fire house allowed me to air up my tire, we could hear air leaking from the dent rim area and tried to pound the dent back with a sledge hammer and piece of wood to protect the wheel. It seemed to work as I was able to proceed to I25 at Elephant Butte. I stopped at Socorro to gas up and put on my rain gear as the skies looked black ahead. I made it to Bart's house a little wet but not soaked. Thanks CJ for dinner. Up early and off to Colorado with Chris and Bart. Up a hill somewhere in southern Colorado my kickstand parted ways with the bike. Chris dodged the flying sidestand and waved Bart and I to a stop. They went back and found the part, the spring and s-plate stayed put but the bolt and vibrated out. So on to Ft Garland Colorado, on the way down a long straight stretch we let the horses run, 110-130 or so...over a rise came a state trooper, FULLY lit up, oh shit...we pulled over and waited but he never returned so we went into town for lunch. I had to lean the XB up against an old wagon. Denver traffic SUCKS, took over an hour to get 30 miles. When we got near the lodge we stopped for gas in Loveland and somehow I picked up a nail in my rear tire. Thanks to Chris and Bart for the plug kit and mini compressor the delay wasn't long. The road to the lodge was awesome and to soon we were pulling into the Stoney River Lodge. The staff even let me park my bike in the carport so I could lean it against the wall. The next day it was breakfast, then on to NRHS, so many bikes of all Buell models and others. Special thanks to Zach for machining the bolt I needed as the local Hardley Ableson stealership didn't carry it. AWESOME people. We left for a ride after my bike was finished and rode with Eric and Jaci on the ONLY S2 at the rally. Also Bart, Chris and I. From Boulder to Golden, up the peak to peak hwy to estes park and back to NRHS for a bbq, raffle, and movie. Thanks to Dan and Cil and all the rest for a great time. Back to the lodge, plenty of beer as we made a stop earlier in Estes park. Sat around with new and old friends, drinking and smoking cigars, telling lies and playing drunken badminton until the manager hollered at us for being to loud, quiet time was 2200 and it was 2300. Opps... Sunday morning and headed back to New Mexico via Estes park, the peak to peak hwy to I70. Amazing ride, little traffic and no police. Through the tunnel to the Copper Mountain turn off, down to Leadville then the mostly boring stretch to Sante Fe..my front tire went down again due to a really bad stretch of road through some little town in southern Colorado, fix a flat and Chris' compressor to the rescue. The rest of the trip was uneventful, rain all around Albuquerque and a cop follow me several miles, even running red light to stay with me. But made it to Bart's dry and tired. Off early the next AM as Bart had to be to work at 0500. I left his house at 0430 and drove for an hour or so, gassed up and breakfast at Denny's. Waited for dawn and headed south. I got sleepy and pulled into a rest stop, napped on a picnic table for a couple of hours and headed out. Got home to Tucson around 1300 without any problems, threaded the needle around some rain storms around Wilcox AZ. All in all it was quite the adventure. I really need to get one of those mini compressor/tire plug kits for myself. I hope my misadventures with the tire and side stand didn't frustrate Bart too much but I think I will ride solo next time as to not slow him down so much. To me its not about the destination and much as the trip and I would have liked to stop and take more pictures and look around a little more, no offense meant to those who ride a different style. To each there own. See you next Springfast hopefully. Trying to get pix to load but in the meantime check my facebook page, look for Arthur Farrand. Thanks again to all who put on the rally and personally helped me keep on two wheels! |
