so is it true, a new XB with 120 HP, and a wet weight of 550 lbs? XB11 Waterbuffalo.... is this possible? lets see add a couple radiators, overhead cams, 25 horsepower, and a hundred pounds. think i will just keep my 12.

my anonymous sources tell me that the new XB11 model will be called the "Radiator" and will have catalyst exhaust, 6 speed transmission, and side curtain airbags. i think the cold is getting to my brain.

35-40 lbs max more weight is closer to it.

Offset that with 20+ extra hp & then go on a diet & lose a few pounds..we could afford to lose a little:D

How maxed out is the current 12 technology? For example, couldnt buell put a six speed trans on the back of the current motor?

Is the current motor really out of gas technology wise? If Nallin can add a bit of HP, why cant Buell? Is it emissions?

Six speed gearboxes are not needed with a broad and tall torque curve.

the vrod most certainly does not have a broad torque curve. have not seen the dyno, but sitting on the bike it is quiet, smooth, and real mellow from 2000 to 6000 rpm.at 6000 it starts pulling strong. in a sporting chassis it would be fun, but 6 gears would be a big advantage.

Okay, what is the wheelbase of this supposed new model, and does it share the same frame as the current XB12's.

Answer those questions and then we'll see how accurate the rumors are.

Better put your blindfolds on kids, you sure dont want to be seeing those V-rod powered XB's riding around the Mukwonago area. The anony will tell you its all rubbish, & that you cant believe your own eyes anyways.

Hmmmmm, I recall an anony also saying the web reports on the XB12 were all rubbish & fictional also.

Be interesting to see that....

Seeing a VROD powered Buell framed bike running around Mukwonago is a far cry from anything having to do with a new model.

You'll recall that the wedding in which Erik and I married two Buell fans on the steps of Juneau that Erik was riding a Turbo S-1. That was before your Buell days, in fact Jay and Donna Hawley had just called me with the great idea of starting a Buell owners group, but I laugh yet today about the "Buell to intro Turbo S-1 for 1997" rumors.

Erik Buell, it is little secret, played a significant (shame no one can say much more than that....wait for the book) role in the intial design of the VROD and the VR platforms. A role significant enough to provide him with, to steal Aaron's words "data points" to know the pros and cons of the cooling systems at his disposal.

He also has the backing of one of the cash richest firms in America with a huge committment to Buell R&D and a couple new faces on in the executive suites that smile fondly when looking to the West from 3700.

Put me down for lusting over a retro-S1 series....but, hey...that's just me.

But it does show they are looking into it, testing it, possibly even considering it, etc etc. Anon says there are no mule bikes, no nothing & I know that the an inaccurate statement.

And my Buell days...well as an owner only date to 2000 but I lusted after one since I rode an S1 the first year they came out.

There have been many mule bikes, and just because it has a radiator does not guarantee that a V-rod is housed inside. But the predictable Buell future does not have a water-cooled bike in it.

And the denials on the XB12 were on the specifics as published in MCN, not on the bike's existence.

Ahh so now we are getting somewhere. An admission finally that water cooled bikes are being mule tested. Well the one I saw sure as hell looked like a V-rod motor to me. But if they arent..I wonder what motor they could possibly be testing??

Was "Big Red" being "looked into"...how about all these parts on my 1995 S-2 that were being tested?

Please recall that we used to assemble the engineering team (Erik was not invited) for a weekly dose of "creative juice" about 10 miles South of the factory on Thursday nights as the entire group stared at Pulp Fiction week after week.

These guys will and HAVE tried ANYTHING inclduing firing a red head off a ramp on a Cyclone to prove you are safe!

If you are inferring ANYTHING seen scooting about the area is "being considered for production" I am going to start eating health food and extending my years, this is going to be one FUN life if the Buell engineers get to introduce anything they can dream up!

Well I don't know about all of you, but I would much rather see the new KTM engine (990 LC8) in a buell than that VRSCA hunk. I know the V-rod engine is good, but like many people have said, it sucks in the low end and that low end is why I love my Buell. Also, the KTM is really small in size. If anyone out there wants to contribute one of those engines and trannys, I will hack my bike apart and wedge it in. I will let you ride it too.

Trip, we had a women who took her brand new 1 day old V-rod out on the B-trax course at the Pilgrim rd plant last year.

She came across the finish line doing the usual 10-15 mph or so & then just hammered the throttle. The rear tire went up in a big puff of smoke. Anyone who says that bike has no bottom end is fooling themselves.

The V-rod may not be so great at corners, but in any straightline contest of speed, it will tear the Buells a new ass.

No it won't Dyna. I've run from 60-120 along side a V-Rod. XB12's are a bit faster. To emphasize the point, I weight 215 with my riding gear on and I would estimate his weight at about 160 or so. There were two XB12R's, 2 XB9S's, a V-Rod and a CBR600 F4i. The XB12's were the fastest bikes there. If it makes any difference, we were at about 4000' ASL.

In case you meant outright speed... Are V-Rod's faster?

Boy am I impressed!

What is the point?

I'll be spending the day on a heavily breathed on Hayabusa tomorrow...it's faster than both of them. Does that make it 2.132 times better?

I'll get the hang of this yet.

If I were GIVEN a VROD, I'd trade it in immediately. It's a great bike, I love it, it's just not my style of riding. Ergo, if'n it were 288 HP I could care less.

Dana, no clutch involved at all. She rolled on the gas while doing between 10-15 mph. Bomber, Roger, Brian, etc all watched her do it. Very cool looking too.


M1, outright top speed & qtr mile the V-rod is faster. Throw that motor in the XB & watch everyones face go into a permanent monster sized grin.

Court, we arent talking about using or giving you a V-Rod. This is about the Revo motor in the XB chassis. Doesnt the prospect of a kickass motor that doesnt have to make any excuses to the magazine writers, the competition, etc etc, get you excited? No more "nice bike, but what a lump of a powertrain" writeups.

Why the big hangup with holding on to the present air cooled v-twin? That prevailing attitude isnt much different then the old diehard HD loyalists who refuse to accept the V-Rod. Its a world class powerplant looking for the proper home.

Agreed, and I think an XB frame would be the perfect home for it (but what do I know?).

I'm not so sure the prevailing attitude is one of unacceptance as such, but something like "Hey we just got our XB's and haven't fallen out of love with them. Don't bug us with that V-Rod engine stuff just yet."
