About 2 weeks ago I pulled my 1125 out of the garage and started her up. She died and I started her 2-3 more times and finally the starter would not engage. I pushed her back into the garage and took the truck to work. When trying to trouble shoot I found when I turned the key on the IP would light and all the idiot lights but no headlights. When I hit the starter button nothing would happen, no click, no dimming of anything. I knew that the starter will not work with the headlight fuse blown so I checked that fuse and all the others, all were good. I R&R the relays just to make sure they were seated and no corrosion. Battery connections all tight. When I was feeling around under the seat I noticed that one leads going to the starter solenoid was loose (see pict below) The locknut was 2-3 turns loose. I don't think this had anything to do with this issue but it would cause problems in the future. After all this investigating, I decided that it was time to pull out the SM and review the wiring diagrams. There were a couple of items I needed to check: 1) Power to the lights fuse and accy fuse (no power found to either). 2) Check ignition switch. The ignition switch only has two circuits. One of them was not closing. That's why the headlights were not coming on and if they don't have power then the starter will no engage. I tried some jumpers in the female plug from the frame and everything worked and the engine would run. I found one of the electrical portions of the ignition switch at Latus (P/N: C0152.02A8) and it will be shipped tomorrow. I want to thank Zac, Froggy and Josh for their help in trouble shooting this issue. Guess the ST will get some road time this week. Later Neil S. |

Thanks for the heads-up. Mike |

I wonder how many other 1125's have ignition switch issues and starter solenoid connection issues? Time2Work Neil S |

I'm guessing not many since I'm pretty sure your the king of the odometer hill. At this rate, I shouldn't have to worry about this for several years. I think you're gonna be the one giving us heads up to long term part wear-outs. |

18k miles, no problems in the last 10k except the water pump. No real electrical issues since late 2008 when the battery got drained from the early model IC. |

I think that there are others at the 50k mark. I'm probably about 80% more miles than most. I just want other riders to understand that I post my issues so they can hopefully avoid them in the future or aid in diagnosing them when they occur. The loose connection on the starter solenoid could give riders some real fits, especially when you consider how much current goes through that solenoid. Later Neil S. |

My bike was acting weird a while back. Bike wouldn't start when the button was pressed and the IC would die. I brought it to the shop, since it was under warranty at the time. Felt like an idiot when they said the starter cable was loose. |

Dagger: I guess you mean the cable going to the starter solenoid or to the starter itself? Either way it could/ would be an issue. I want to thank Tim Swearingin, Parts Mgr Latus Motors H-D 503-249-5617 for great customer service and a discount. I thought they were a BWB sponsor but I can't find a link to them anymore. Either way he gave me a very generous discount (hey if you don't ask you sure won't get it!). My parts are in Louisville, KY and s/b here tomorrow. Time2Work Neil S. |

I had a red wire in the ignition switch area break. I had to resolder it. The lights would not work and the bike would not startup as well. |

There's a ground wire that comes out of the wiring harness just under the IC that attaches to the steering stem area. That can come loose, too, and it causes all kinds of grief if it does. |

Zac had mentioned he had a failure of one of his wires at the ignition switch too and was able to repair it. For $40 I decided to get a new one and try and repair the old one for a spare. I'll check that ground wire since I'm in that area under the IC, thx for the heads up. Neil S. |

All is well with the world now the cosmic equilibrium has been re-established. Installed the new electrical ignition switch ( C0152.02A8 ) and all things operated properly and the engine ran fine. Now I have 2-3 other things that I've been meaning to do under the fairing before I button her back up. She will be much better and ready for another 35,000 s'miles. Later Neil S. |

Well after cutting the grass I'm going to play with the 1125. Besides the switch and ground wire, is there anything else I need to check up front while I have the . fairing removed? |

She sure is running fine after a new ignition switch and other various important and not so important wires have been secured. Rode for two hours today and spent some time with the Patroit Guard honoring a fallen Soldier. A bystander complained about the heat. After the third time someone mentioned it was probably 25deg cooler than where Michael was when an IED tool him out. No more complaints! |
