I'm looking to start throwing parts at my frustrating ongoing problem. I have part numbers for all but one of my sensors. Bike is a 2008 XB12Ss. I have the following sensor part numbers to potential pieces of my puzzle: P0138.K -- $10 - Air Intake Temp (AIT) Sensor S0130.02A8 -- $25 - O2 Sensor Bosch 12014 -- $20 - O2 Sensor aftermarket P0279.5AA -- $50 - Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) 32890-08A -- $75 - Cam Position Sensor P0282.5AA -- $140 - Idle Air Controller (IAC) Y0152.1AMA -- $290 - ECM stock blank Y0160.08AH -- $250 - ECM Erik Buell Racing with "best drive" for stock ?? -- $?? - Engine Temp Sensor Does anyone have the Engine Temp Sensor part number -- or recommendation for an after market equivalent? |

FWIW - the 2009 Parts list has: P0278.4A8 - SENSOR Engine Temperature I also noticed the O2 sensor had another number: P0277.5AA - SENSOR Oxygen |

Thanks Rays! Not sure what the diff is between the two O2 sensor part numbers, but there's something because the P/N I have is $25 and the one you have is $45. But I'll go with the Bosch for $20 anyway. hmmm...I looked up the ET sensor and there's two listed with that part number. Maybe the "A" is an updated revision? Looks like it was added to the catalog where I buy parts from in July 2009 - and the price is the same for both. P0278.4A8A -- HEAD TEMP SENSOR P0278.4A8 --- SENSOR, HEAD TEMPERATURE |

Further confusion on that part number...I found a post that says the P0278.4A8 is specifically for a Uly. I've now also found 32564-99YC as an engine temp sensor for 03-08 BUELL XB SERIES. Any clarification? |

Nevermind, I think I have it figured out. I called a dealer to verify the part numbers. They confirmed that the head temp sensor is indeed P0278.4A8A and that the additional "A" on the end indicates an update. I'm all set - thanks! |

Sorry, timezone differences, not ignoring you. The earlier temperature sensor has a very different electrical connector (a fairly solid 'bullet' type connector) - I did see another post where there was an extra connector that came with a later type sensor to upgrade the earlier XB's. The '09 parts manual lists that part number against all models (it has the variations for all the '09 models in a single manual). Of course the limitation with having the printed manual is that you aren't aware of the updates that the online parts systems will show. |

No worries Rays - was just trying to get it ordered before close of business Friday. And your part number was absolutely correct. Thanks! |

IAT is cheap, so why not, O2 you already have so I guess go for it but I doubt it will improve things. Everything else can be checked and will save you lots of money. The service manual should give the procedure for checking everything and I think everything can be checked with a $5 multimeter. You already know the ECM is not going to fix it since you tried a different ECM. The engine temp sensor might help, might not so I'm not sure if it is worth the money and it can also be checked to see if it is way off and this can be done while it is installed on the bike. Measure resistance cold, go for a ride and come home and check it hot, there should be a table of normal measurements in the service manual. |
