When the fuel warning light comes on and the IC switches over to a counter - is that supposed to be the miles covered since going onto reserve? It happened today on a road that's about 6 miles from my house and by the time I got home the counter was showing 42 (it started out on 0)... I was riding along at about 70MPH and it was going up by one unit about every 30 seconds or less... Is that normal? If not, any ideas what it might be? The mileometer seems to work fine when the fuel light's not on. Cheers in advance |

Yes it starts at 0 when it comes on and counts up. It will reset to 0 after the low gas light has been off for a few minutes. You sure it was 42 and not 4.2? |

Ohhhh sorry - is there a decimal point in it? That would make much more sense! So it goes 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 up to 1.0, 1.1 etc? That would explain it LMAO, boy do I feel dumb.. |

About 3/4 of a gallon left. Depending on your riding, if you average 30mpg, you will be walking at 22.5 miles. At 40mpg you would have a 30 mile range. |

yep, I ran out 20 miles after the light came on last time. Now I view it as a "get gas NOW!" light. |

It's supposed to come on at .8 gallons. The capacity is supposed to be 5.3 but when mine comes on it's usually a 4.3-4.5 gallons fill up. So either the capacity is off on mine or the light comes on early. I have put 5.1 gallons in before. It's consistent, so it's no big deal. |

My fuel light came on at 153 miles on the tank. I went 17 miles with light on and when I leaned it over to its side stand it started missing at the gas station. I filled up with exactly 5 gallons. So .8 left in tank is close seeing how I used .5 gallons on 17 miles. Guessing the .3 gallons in the tank doesn't get picked with the fuel pump. |

Yea the fuel pump is on the right of the frame, I have had it happen that I couldn't start the bike till I stood it upright. |

So I should lean the bike to the right to get those last couple miles out out the tank? |

As long as you aren't in NASCAR you should be fine |

NASCAR would be ok as long as it was a green flag.... GGGGGGG forces. Maybe just me but my fuel light seems to come on earlier with the charging system update. |

B4 the update I would put anywhere from 4.1 - 4.5 gal in her Now it's like 3.5 - 3.9 Need a couple more tanks fulls to be sure. Ran with the light on for 17miles yesterday and only put 4.1 gal in her. That's the furthest I've gone so far. |

It's an issue with the fuel level sender from what I've read. Only happens when it's cold outside. And you can't fix it. |

Scenario? - Riding along and the fuel light comes on, pull over to a gas pump and shut off the motor. Fill with fuel. Turn key on, fuel light comes on and stays on for 1/8-1/4 mile. Normal Z |

Just curious, is a float system just not possible on motorcycles? I can see a need to conserve space if you have analog gauges but the 1125R is digital so why not just have a gas gauge on it? I just bought my first motorcycle back in December 09 and I am pretty green about some things so don't flame me too hard. |

I would think with bank angles an unbaffled fuel tank would read all over the place in terms of a float system. I'm not even sure how motorcycle's gas gauges work, especially on Buells. |

Not a float system, read the workshop manual - it is a resistance element cooled by contat with the fuel, when the element is exposed at low fuel level its resistance changes and hence the low fuel level lamp is set and the IC subdisplay changes |

My 09 1125R had the cold fuel false level issue which illuminated the CEL and the LFL, it also had the condensation issue in the IC, both seem to have been cured by the IC replaced under warranty. The old IC was a 6.1 the new one is a 6.2 issue |
