NOTHING. i had a damn battery tender on it ALL winter!!!! tenders light showed green like all was well! ok ill jump it ride for a while and we should be good, WRONG. jumped it and left it on the car for up to 5 or 10 min and the second i took off a jumper the damn thing would die! OK so i got to take the battery out... nope! how the heck do you get this damn thing out? im so mad. i have the newest bike. the nicest most expensive and the 09 cluster, and still dead. made them wait for like and hr and waisted there time. made me look dumb and now they throw in the harley buell jokes.. not a good start to the season for me... things sitting on a charger all night ill see what happens when i get off work. i have a feeling nothing good.. im temped to take the battery out and to work and put a 40amp charge on it all day... nvm, i cant get it out! fml and that wasnt smart ass i seriously forgot allreadt after typing that! ugh im soooo heated!!!! i shoulda just took my damn blast out! aleast that runs |

no because when the jumpers were on it connected to the car it was fine, just the second you disconected the jumpers it died cuz it has no power. guess the stator doesnt work like an alternator on a car. once its running its running?????????? |

Battery's probably toast. An alternator will provide power at low RPM, but the drain of a totally dead battery would take too much to leave it running. Throw the bike in diagnostic mode (hold both cluster buttons when you turn it on) and go to the voltage reading. See what it's showing, or just throw a voltmeter on the battery. ... alternately, join the rest of us and take the bike to the Harley dealership for warranty "service." |

first of all make sure the battery cables are tightened and not loose AT ALL, becuase the slightest sign of looseness will make it not start... alright, i had this happen to me...in order to get the battery out, you need to take the rear plastics of (only 5 troqs screws, which the tool is in the tool kit) then just manuver it to the side, becuase the locking mechanism is a PITA to get out from what ive seen. then take off the strap and take a deep breath because it takes patience to finagle the battery out between the cross member and fuse box, but it WILL come out, and getting it back in is ALOT easier...it takes about 15-30mins. to change the battery and all you need is the tool kit and a phillips-head screw driver (make sure to disconnect the battery...dont ask lol) Jake P.S.- they might make fun of you now, but once you do take it out and blow their doors off (especially in the corners) you'll get the last laugh ...i always do lol |

Well ill find out today when I nget home from work as for putting the bike in diagnostic mode, last night id turn the key and everything was black nothing. The bike is on a charger as we speak. And yes the termanals are on tight well were....So that means I'm not taking the battery anywhere.. so as for warranty work how did I manage that? Can't get the bike there, closest dealer is 45 min away. Have a feeling its gunna be a pita on getting a new battery for free... what's the odds they have one in stock? |

I remember those days...back in '99 when the M2 was the only bike I had and was working through the night so I could ride the next day. Now I avoid that problem by filling the garage up with bikes. Not exactly cost effective as bourbon is a much cheaper alternative. I had a battery go guts up on the blue ridge parkway while under warranty. I was able to bump-start the bike and get it to a dealer. Be aware that they pro-rate tires and batteries as wear items when in warranty. You will still throw out some skins depending on how old the bike is. To be fair, that same battery I had replaced 10 years ago is still working just fine in the M2. |

I can't count how many similar stories I've heard of batteries gone kaput after being on a battery tender all Winter. It happened to my Dad, twice. I really think the battery tenders are not worth the trouble. I've never used one. Just put the bike on charge at 2A for a couple hours if it sits for longer than a month. |

I have had good luck with Battery Tenders. My original 5 year old Yuasa on my Katana still fires her up every time. I don't leave it hooked up all winter, I take it out of the bike, put it indoors and hook up the charger in late Feb, early March and let it charge until the weather breaks. I gave my 1125 battery the same treatment and she fired right up. Like I said, 5 year old battery that runs like new. I have a bad feeling that your problem may be something worse. |

His problem may be nothing other that just a crap battery that was crap from day one. It happens. Just replace it with a new one, charge the new one to full, put it in the bike and if you feel so moved. Check what the charging volts are while the bike is at idle. Should be ~13v. |

Hey Ed Ralph is doing great. He's enjoyed the S3 a lot. We're currently rebuilding the top end due to oil pump drive gear failure. |

The battery is pretty easy to remove, once you get the tail section out of the way, like Jake said. The real PITA for me was that damn battery strap, but even that wasn't TOO bad. Once you've done an engine rotation, all the other maintenance stuff will seem like a cake walk. |

Lots of motorcycle batteries are sold in March & April. Happens to lots of riders. |

If you had it hooked up to the car while the car was running there is a damn good chance you messed up some of your electronics. Motorcycle batteries don't like charging much more than 2A. A car's alternator is typically rated around 50 to 80 amperes. If you decide to take it to the dealer, do NOT tell them you had it hooked up to a running car. Nonetheless, good luck getting everything sorted. It suuucks not having this bike running! |

Eh, just don't tell them, haha! I had my '08 in the shop recently because the battery wasn't holding charge and it turns out that not only was the battery bad but so was the voltage regulator. So, there could be many different problems, but most likely it's the simplest. If you're still under warranty take it to the dealer and have them test it. If it tests failed then you'll get a new battery. Good luck! |

Rock, if that battery was drained to dead like that there's a good chance that it may be done for. Most likely it's ability to hold a charge is finished. You might want to consider replacing it. |

Rock, have them load test the battery. That would certainly tell if it's bad, or if you have access to one you could do that as well. As for the battery, if you want to get an alternate to the HD one. Check Batteries Plus. They carry the batteries we need (sealed AGM). There are some websites that have been posted on here with those batteries as well that are less expensive. |

I was going to get an aftermarket battery, but it was made in China. At least the Harley battery is made here. You can get them at a better price from one of the sponsors here. I forget which ones offer a 10% discount. Liberty, maybe. I got mine from a local dealer, and paid $100. My car battery is twice that, so I wasn't complaining. |

Try my truck batteries. Lowest price I saw was $70, but I need 2 of them. |
