Was out on a ride and looked down to check speed, low and behold the speedo is 0mph? Tach is still working but no speed or mileage. Where is the speed sensor? Is it easy to clean or is it better to change? TX |

Best way to describe it is, look at your front belt pulley. It's located on top of it, slightly inboard. Black fitting, one screw holding it in, has an O-ring seal. Pull it out, I'd bet you have a ton of filings stuck to it (it's magnetic). Cleaning should do the trick. |

Plus it's a bear to get out. If you have the room, try getting under it with a flat screwdriver and prying gently. I thought something else was holding mine in until I split the cases and got a look on the inside and realized it was just tighter than a mouse's ear. |

if its the original sensor, dont waste your time cleaning it, just replace it with the new part. |

Mine came out easily. Based on that, I'd say try to clean it though there's little chance of success and plan on changing it soon. |

On one of the bikes it lasted till 14k miles. Even after cleaning it was still shot and there was alot of fuzz on it. |

Suggest you leave it unplugged. They can short out and blow your ignition fuse. If yours is bad already, no sense taking the chance. |

All the sensor did was fail. It will not affect the bike. I know and I still rode it but I just followed my friends bikes. Or actually can tell the speed by the sound. |

Mine is OK but just curious. So you just had to remove that plastic pulley cover in order to get access? |

No it is accessable without removing anything from the bike, its a black plastic piece with one allen head bolt holding it in and one wire coming out just above slightly to the rear of the front sprocket. |
