Actually, my XB will run smooth in first gear with my hand off the throttle at 1100 rpms. But, I suppose you could call it a cruiser. |

I neglected to mention, Loretta has no trouble as low as 10 mph without touching the clutch. In town she's a joy. She's just smoooooooth now. Z |

It's simply growing pains with the new engine. It's a COMPLETELY new engine. There are going to be bugs. Don't like to be a "beta tester", then don't buy the first year of a new engine. The cool thing about Buell is how quickly they react to issues and work to get them solved. I am looking forward to the 1125 engine in the Ulysses platform. PLEASE!!! |

"Quirks" "Beta Testers" I have fun on this bike. But I am sorry, it seems some people like to make excuses for Buell. I don't really care what issues other manufactures have or how they deal with them. I own a Buell that is the company I expect results from. Do some people complain to much, yes we do. However everyone should expect quality craftsmanship, with zero excuses for flaws. Only answers and reassurance from the company that they are looking into the problem and will rectify it. I know my dealer gets tired of seeing me, but they are also very good and have reassured me that they want it squared away just as I do. So I am grateful for that. If they are tired of seeing me then to dang bad. Give me what I want or I will go elsewhere. Sorry but if you settle for less then that is what you will get. I do believe this bike will be great. It has flaws just as I have flaws, one of them being no patience. |

I think that I rode my 1125R 112 miles before I would bring back into the dealer ship and sign the papers. |

"Sorry but if you settle for less then that is what you will get." Well my experience with Buell warranty work has been far above anything I have ever received from a metric dealer. It seems that each new motorcycle I have ever bought, with the sole exception being my Street Glide, has had to go back to the dealer for some type of correction or repair withing the 1st month or 2 from purchase. I don't believe there is such a thing as a "perfect" motorcycle and since they are mechanical items, something will break eventually. Buell seems to be very receptive to their customers and they seem to be concerned with fixing these issues. The same isn't always the case with japanese bikes. When issues with them arise, it's basically a blame game session whereas with Buell's they just try to get it fixed. |

Madav8tr - I don't believe there is such a thing as a "perfect" motorcycle ____________________________________ There are perfect bikes. I have never had one single issue on any of my new bikes form Europe or japan in the last 5 years and 3 of my 5 Buells were flawless. The size of the problem is almost irrelevant. Its the inconvenience of having to go to a dealer. Most new cars and most bikes today should require nothing but maintenance when it leaves the dealer. |

I must admit, this is my only experience with a brand new bike. But I also know that this is my first bike with any issues. I do agree though Buells and V-twin bikes are for a specific type of person. I also believe I am one of those people. As I said I am growing impatient and want to spend my time thinking about cool upgrades not whats next on the recall list. (Message edited by TRW on June 24, 2008) |

Brad, consider yourself lucky. My 1997 YZF600R lost 2nd gear around the 2K mile mark and the dealer refused warranty repair said that it was user abuse. 2001 Ducati 996S had 2 oil line fittings crack and fail under pressure(covered rear tire in oil and almost caused me to pile it up) and a recall for a clutch slave cylinder. My 2002 RC51 started leaking fluid from the right fork seal on the 2nd day of ownership(Dealer refused to fix under warranty). My '02 KTM Duke 2 had to have the headgasket replaced in under 3 months. My '04 Kawasaki ZX10R had to have a new engine due to the thin porous casting of the cases(oil was leaking through a small crack about 5 inches above the countershaft sprocket) and unfortunately a Lawyer had to get involved to motivate Kawasaki to do anything and that was in addition to every ZX10 sold had the front wheel replaced. My '06 Husqvarna SM610S had the gas tank rupture at a seam and a key on the flywheel disintegrate. A few of those were pretty major issues to be dealing with when you purchase a new bike and most of those problems are/were recurring trouble for those particular models. There is no such thing as "perfect bikes" and I guarantee some of the asian and european bikes you had that were trouble free, were causing someone else headaches somewhere. When a new bike is developed, like the 1125, you need to be prepared to deal with any issues that may come up or wait on your purchase. |

My last non-Buell was a Honda VFR. Despite the reputation for quality that Honda, and the VFR in particular, have for quality, the bike had it's share of problems. I enjoyed mine, and had a good ownership experience - but the bike was not perfect. Visit VFR discussion group and you will see similar gripe sessions to what we have here. One thing I particularly remember was complaints about Honda warranty administration. Benefit of the doubt, whenever 'owner abuse' was even remotely possible seemed always to go to Honda. Jack |
