first off to "Mbob" that did this a few weeks ago on his 12S a huge "THANK YOU" without your great idea this would have cost me a lot more and i'd still be wondering how to get it done. anyways here she is, the cables took a little playing with and i still want to paint up the pieces and bars, but the new riding position is awesome!

Great mod, and the price must have been right.

forgot to put my barends back on for the pic....

just took the first ride 45min just to get a feel for the new position and it is awesome, very aggresive like a whole different bike.

total cost:
$17.00 clubman bars
$12.00 at lowes for hardware
$14.00 at buell for xtra top clamp
1 hour labor
stretching out on the CITYX "priceless"

those look awesome, what did you have to do with all your cables and whatnot to get them to fit? I bet they feel nice to ride with.

the cables are now all routed thru the back of the flyscreen and out the sides of the bracket, once again i thank "Mbob" for the idea of this his trial and error made this very simple for me to accomplish. if anyone wants more details i can take some better pics and give a rundown of hardware and instructions.

pics and a rundown would be great, and that's super cheap! I would really consider doing that to my ss. where did you get the bars?

Bwesky... any of your local import moto shops should be able to get the bars for you. they are made by bikemaster, or google "bikemaster clubman handlebars" many links for them.

the homemade riser is the real money saver in all of this, parts required:

additional XB top handlebar clamp

5/16-18 x 3 1/2" socket head bolts x 4

3/8 x 1/2 x 1 1/2 spacers x 4

1/4" washers x 4(to shim up the rear bolts)

if purchased at lowes here's what your lookin for:

the change in appearence is very dramatic i think:

and on a side not for the first time since the purchase of my cityX i can actually use my "mode" and "reset" buttons without playing friggin hand twister!!!

Those look Great!

Any chance that you can post a close-up(s) of how you re-routed the cables?

Might consider replacing my Crossroads with those.

Do they come close to touching the frame or airbox cover when turned lock to lock?

We did the same thing in december.... except we widened the center portion of the bars off our old Triumph t100 and didnt have to use the spacers in the cross clamp... kinda tricky putting the key into the switch but it locates the bars a bit more forward and puts them inches lower as if they come right outta the trees like a Firebolt with a more comfortible angle.

After seeing what Mbob had done, I also decided that the old Clubmans were just wasting away, and my Crossroads were bent. Hey why not give it a try:
I already had the Precision Engineering 1" bar risers, so I had to cut my spacers down to about 3/4 of an inch. I also went with Nylon spacers inside the tubes, just to help keep the bolt aligned the in proper position after tightning:

My particular set-up does limit my turning radius a bit. During Myrtle Beach bike week, I found I had to push the bike back and forth in the really tight parking area's, but other than that, no problems. I can still lock the steering lock without touching plastic, but put your hands on the grip and that changes it just a bit. i like the position because in the twisties, it rocks, during the straight, I can sit up straight a still have my throttle hand in control.

i am absolutely in love with the clubmans on the bike, but would like a little adjustability... so i tracked down a set of adjustable clubmans, hopefully have em in a few weeks.

Hey great job guys!
I have been running mine for a month now.
The position is awesome except for tight
technical low speed stuff. The adj. clubs
might be the answer. Let us know. I may
just need to get a SuperMoto for that.

This is a creative solution guys. Thanks for sharing the wealth.

The Clubman mod is screaming "trackday prep" to me right now.

Ustorque,

Love those bars. Now get some turn signals! Wish I had know about this before I bought the Crossroads. Would have saved me a bundle!

I posted here about a week ago about converting to flat bars. I had decided to use the Crossroads bars but now that I see how this set up works, I think this is more what I'm looking for. Thanks for posting this!!!!!

for the cost of stuff needed to make this happen you really can't go wrong, and if it does't work out you've lost very little.

on a side note the more i ride the bike with these on the more i love em, they put me in great position for cornering, the stock cityX bars made it mandatory to get ready and set-up for a good hard lean, now i'm already there.

Gentleman_Jon....thanks for the tommaselli info the other day, unfotunately as you mentioned and as i suspected locating the adjustables is like the search for the holy grail. i did however track down a guy in CA that sells the laverda 4-way adjustables they are a square rather than hoop shape but i think the adjustability will allow me to dial in a nice riding position. some pics for ya.
