Dyna,

You are wrong, so don't tell people to wait. There will NOT be a V-Rod powered Buell.

PS..remember the big stink when the 12's were announced prematurely & anon came in & denounced it as hogwash?

Obviously nobody from the factory would ever comment publicly on a v-rod powered bike. And I can understand that. Sales could suffer if folks found out what was in the pipeleine. Sorry anon, I take it all back. The XB's will never ever be improved in any way shape or form. They are the best they will ever be.:D Personally I like the 12's, but with the v-rod powerplant it would be like "OH MY GOD I HAVE TO HAVE ONE NOW!!!".

Leeaw,
For one when this bike was introduced in 93 it sold for $12,999.00. It was also targeted at the sport touring segment which is small. It was also competing against the ST1100 from Honda. Blame it on marketing and the segment Yamaha chose to go after. I paid $7500.00 out the door in 95 for this bike. They did not sell well in the states, in Europe on the other hand. This bike was brought into the US for the 93 and 94 model year. Yamaha kept producing this bike in Europe into I believe 98 or 99. Of course probably from parts they had set aside for the big sales they where hoping for in the US. It was a bike before its time, no dive from the front end, anti-lock brakes and fuel injection in a mass produced motorcycle.

A VRod powered bike would be a pig in comparison to the XB12... unless they spent a fortune on lightening materials. Then no one would be able to afford one. I don't know if it's true, but if Dyna says the VRod motor is *only* 50 lbs heavier... how much heavier would the total bike be with the associated plumbing, radiator, etc.?? Then the posers would be complaining that the bike is *way* too heavy, when compared to yada yada yada. You're putting *way* too much emphasis on HP for street riding, unless all you do is pose at bike nights or drag race. You don't need it... and I doubt that you could handle it. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Krassh,
Doesn't that scare the customers to see you pull up on the Harley and they see the sleeping bag on there? "This may take longer to fix than we thought." ;)

"If I could have a second bike..."
It would be a 1998 Buell S1W:
In Yellow, of course
Ironic that there is a Triumph right behind my dream bike.

Twenty bonus points if you can tell me where I got this picture.

I have a sick affection for the Boss Hoss. I may have to have one just to get over it.

Piggos,
I saw one of those BossHoss big block bikes on the drag dyno at the Harley 100th. Wicked power. Broke his belt. If I had one I'd run it in a BattleTrax event just for grins and to prove it could be done, or not. Would be fun trying though. There's a dealership about 15 miles from where I work. Price is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my range though. I have no idea what it would cost to insure one either.

Smadd, you make a lot of sense for someone with the original high HP Buell. I'd much rather have the XB12 than a V-Rod powered Buell. Besides, If I want more HP than a V-Rod, I'd just send it to Wes.

As far as a second bike, I just found a beautiful 01 Sporty for a very good price. I shouldn't, but I may go look at it Sunday.

Piggos, have you ridden a Boss Hoss? They give demo rides in Daytona. What a pig. I rode one with the 350. It was the least desireable bike I've ever ridden. I'd rather ride a Yamaha 250 Virago! They've had the 502 out for a number of years, but I haven't seen them give demos on it.

Race track use aside, I can't imagine ever needing any more power for the kind of riding I do. Especially at the expense of size and weight. Big HP means nothing in the twisties... only if you desire to blow by your buddies on the infrequent straights. But you'd better watch out for the deer (which aren't infrequent)! I haven't ridden one, but I imagine I'd find the XB12 just about perfect as it sits.

A large portion of the population lives near flat straigh boring assed roads. If you live in or near the smokeys or any mountain range for that matter then its great, but ask the folks who came here for the 20th. Big hp rules these roads.

OK... I'll buy that. You're probably right. But you don't have to concur with the masses who believe big HP rules. Maybe some people will have, or develop the attitude that twisting hard on that throttle and blazing up the road at triple digit speeds isn't that great or rewarding a "trip". Maybe there are some people who just sit back and could care less when a rocket "blows" by 'em at high speed. I could be way off here... as I do enjoy having plenty of "twisties" in my backyard... but that kind of riding (straight line speed)doesn't do anything for me. And I realize that's just my opinion. And other's are probably just as valid. Ride what you like... enjoy the ride, have fun, but be safe. Phew!! I'm sounding old!!! LOL

life in the midwest is not quite as flat and straight as Dyna might have you believe . . . HP rules in the hearts and minds of many, true, but if it was asa black and white as some would have you believe, they would be riding all Hyabusas rather than purple dynas . . . . and a certain dealer in Iowa wouldn't be beating the bushes for XB12s to sell

If I could have a third bike, and money wasn't an issue:
2003 Confederate G2 Hellcat
A Road King Classic might be a bit more feasible till I find a loaded Supermodel who finds me irresistible.

True, but take our best twisty road we have & compare it to the roads in the carolinas or out east in the PA area or New Hampshire & they would look arrow straight.

Nope & nope.

I did a search for 1998 Buell S1's on Cycle Trader On Line and found that little yellow jewel.

I think there must be something wrong with the bike as it's been offered for sale just about every time I've ever searched for such bikes. It's at a dealer in Spartanburg, SC, and the $7,000 asking price doesn't seem too bad.

Dyna, you're on. You're going to love some of these roads. We'll leave things vague until it starts getting close, then when you've got a fair idea of how much time you want to spend riding, and what you'd like to see, we'll get a bit more specific.
