The Adventure was the only 1150 you had, I thought?
But yeah, I mean YOUR 1150 Adventure....... ; )
Dropped mine this morning in Amsterdam in the snow : ( I broke the plastic head guard, so I'd better make me some of those steel ones soon, I guess.

Grizzly ... do tell : )

And you're right - great story and (unofficial) film easily would have made up for an overnight stay.

Are you still considering a US trek?

Pete,
Bad luck mate, not more damage? I still have those plastic head guards laying around in the shed. Pick them up on your way back tomorrow.

Henrik,
Long story...
It was not my choice to buy the R1200GS ..yet.
21 january 2004 at 23.00hr.
I rode home from work. A nice asphalt road meandering through the green (muddy) meadows.
About 0,5 mls from home there is this beautiful long corner to the right. Dry weather in daylight I can take it with 60mph, but now, in the cold and dark I rode 30mph.
Both front and rear wheel start to slide at the same time and in a split second I am down.
The GS sliding on its righthand side, catching asphalt, standing up like a whale from the sea and in slow motion crashing on the front side and turning over to kiss the tar with its left. The engine still running like a wounded animal.
Me, I slided about 20 yards on my right elbow. Then the Armacor material from the BMW jacket gave in and I lost a little piece of meat. Then I reached the tree line. I had managed to get my feet under me and while running I tried to reduce some speed. Fat chance in hell. I hit a tree frontal with my helmet and was send back to the ground.
Thanks to my ARAI helmet I can tell you this myself. At first glance the outside of the ARAI was just scratched, but after we had a better look, the inside of the chin part was broken.
The GS is total loss.
"damage"

What had happened? In that corner, there is entrance to a grassland with some cadlle.
A farmer with a tractor had put a trail of mud on the road in the inside of the corner, 1 inch thick about 40 yards long and 2 feet wide. I had no chance.
"mud"

Insurance payed only 70% of the new price.
The farmer will be held responsible and will have to pay for the rest.
So, thats the story.
My arm healed. My 7th cervical vertabra (apparently bruised) still gives me some tingling feeling in my left hand.
My ego is damaged but that will heal as soon as I ride a new motorbike.

ciao friend

Grizzly

Henrik,
About that US trek.
I have to use the Camper a few more times together with Alice, before I can explain to her that I really need to see my friends in the US again
But I have high hopes of seeing Team Elves on the Isle of Man in 2005.
I had a long talk with one of the organizers today. It is one of the most spectacular motorcycle experiences you'll ever come across.
Pete and I will be there anyway.
Make it happen.

ciao
Grizzly

Sorry to hear about that Griz. Did you consider you could have moto crossed it out of that corner if you were on a proper bike!!!!

As for the guy in the grass skirt, whilst you and Henrik were shuffling your way out of a night in jail, he was doing 170mph down I25, but thanks for keeping LEO busy anyway LOL

Grizzly; ouch - that's some crash story. The frontal hit into the tree sounds ugly. Glad you're healing up - and that you've got a new bike on order : )

Would love to go the the Isle of Man event - but I'll have to wait and see.

Hi Rocket,
The trees where lining up to receive me like the defense line of football players.

The big question... How is the poor tree doing? Great telling of your unfortunate accident Griz. Glad you are well on your way to full recovery.

Grizz,
I'll call in on the way home this afternoon, but I think the single and twin-spark models have different guards.

Looks like every road here in Yuma during lettuce season. Sorry to hear about your accident Grizzly.

I'm interested, does the law give you any recourse against the farmers leaving "road hazard's" like that? I think it does... Just wondering cuz I dropped my XB9R in the exact same situation.

Hi Charles,
The D.A. is prosecuting the farmer for negligence.
Half a year ago a motorcyclist died in the same situation about 8 miles from here. That farmer went to jail. But as a motorcyclist you are many times found partially guilty when they think you was riding to fast for the situation. I was doin about 30mph on a 40mph road, so that should be slow enough....

Regardless of legal implictions, I just don't like hearing a good friend was injured.

: )

I am SOOOOOOO simple.

Glad you are doing well Grizz and I am already in love with your new bike!

Maybe I should've hired a lawyer? I didn't like losing "meat" either! Then again, I was going a LITTLE fast.

Hope it all goes well for you.
