Has anyone ever thought about giving BMW a run for their money? I've got a 96 S2T gathering dust in my shed, so I took it out for a little ride this weekend. While out in the boonies I noticed a little trail leading away from the highway ... so I took it. For as big as it is the Thunderbolt was outstanding in the rough stuff. If I got rid of everything under the bike (muffler, shock) and mounted the more traditional dual shocks on the rear it would free up some ground clearance. Along with headers with baffles. Some dual sport tires and I think it would be good to go. It's lighter and has more power than the GS1150. The only thing I would need is a bigger fuel tank. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

Chewy, Take a look at the modified dual-sportish Sportster that's been posted on the site here off and on over the last year or three, might give you a few ideas. Then go look at the rear suspension setup on Peter's S1 that was posted with his turbo offering and see the additional ground clearance that would provide. There may be better choices to build up from though than an S2. On the other hand there has been active discussion on campaigning a Buell in the Paris-Dakar event. Where in the world are you roughly located? Bads1, Wanna buy an S2?????

Nice hills just west of you then. And plenty of boonies to play on. You might be able to get by with just a set of these and with watching for the bigger rocks and such: http://www.avonmotorcycle.com/mcycle_product/Images2002/AM43_44.pdf and I've been getting curious how the rain version of these would work on a Buell: http://www.avonmotorcycle.com/mcycle_product/Images2002/AV49_50_ProXtreme_ProXtr emeRain.pdf Have fun. |

Do NOT butcher an S-2. You do not know what you have. Only it's MONETARY value is indicated by resale value. Not unlike the NEW 1965 Mustang Dad bought Mom for Christmas and took a pounding on when he sold it for $1,500 in 1967. The S-2 holds many secrets, first and lure. Note, please dear friend, which Buell each and every affficianado has eventually gravitated to. I've owned 9, have one left. Aaron has a raft of them, rides one. Just my opinion......I said, when I was 7 years old at 1315 Campbell in Topeka, KS, that I wanted to "keep the Cushman forever". I shall, it just turned 50. Court |

Go on, "Dare to be different". Modify that bike to your hearts content. Love to see the purists get all freaked out when someone cuts up a classic car or bike. Call up discovery channel & see if they want to have Jesse do something with it on Monster Garage |

Don't tell me we're gong to have to start a "Save the S2" fund!!!! Chewy, I picked up a S2 this year. All other bikes I own will go before the S2. That include the my M2, the best Buell ever made (ask court about that one ) Back away from the edge..... don't hurt the poor S2, it never did anything wrong.... If you hold off till spring, I'll bet you can move it to a new home with no problem. Hmmmm, what color is it? How many miles.. Oh crap shhhh my wife's coming............ |

It's in great shape. almost 13,000 miles. It's Purple with matching hardbags and the soft luggage is inside those. The windshield is starting to crack around the screws and there is a slight scratch on the right side under the seat. There's no turn signals on it right now and the sub-frame for the hard bags is off and hanging in the shed with the signals. It also has the soft bags in the front farring. As far as the engine goes it has the 10:1 pistons Thunderstorm heads and cams, Buell race ignition, Vance & Hines exhaust and a 44mm carb off of some harley. I'll take some pics this afternoon after work and post them tonight. It suposed to be part of some limited run, but I didnt want to part with the extra dough to get the numbered ignition plate cover from the original owner. He might still have it though. |

Not sure I'd like to be stuck in in boonies with a Sportster powered dual-sport, but a Buell motard bike sounds pretty interesting. |

Chewy, Any thoughts on a trade???? I have a 1998 S3 that has been somewhat bastardized into an S1. It has almost 38K miles but runs like a dream, doesn't burn oil and looks great. I'd throw in the saddlebags, associate saddlebag hardware & front fairing. It has a Makuni flatslide 42mm carb, single fire coil and V&H pipe. Also carbon fiber rear fender. I'm trying to think of any more throw-in items but I think that may be everything. Just fishing but I'd love an S2 to compliment my S3T (especially a Parkway Blue) |

Things I forgot on the previous list of options: Corbin Gunfighter/Lady seat (leather in good shape, padding needs to be replaced) Crossroads Performance Handlebars (S1W/X1) Dyna Race Ignition Carbon Fiber Windscreen Custom "Bomber-made" aluminium dash (X1 shape with smaller openings for pre-'99 gauges) Buell Race Springs Carbon Fiber Sproket cover (slight wear marks) Carbon Fiber Lower Belt Guard L-P Faux Carbon Fiber adjustable levers I also recently replaced both rocker box gaskets with the metal gaskets. Damn, I didn't realize how many aftermarket parts are actually on that thing. I don't think I forgot anything this time around. edited by lake_bueller on October 15, 2003 |
