A totally silly question, I know. Is the Manta Tank an after market tank? Was it stock on some models or optional? What's the difference between a manta tank and any other Buell tuber tank?

Manta tanks are the stock 1999 and later tanks. Someone will now correct me and say 1 of the 98 models had a Manta. Anyway the biggest difference is it holds about a gallon more gas. It gets its name from the shape of the tank as seen from the riders perspective.

The 98 S1 White Lightning came with a manta tank. It was borrowed from the parts bin of the S2 or 3 if I remember correctly.

Sleez pretty much nailed it. M2 started with the manta tank in 1999.

Whoever came up with the term 'manta tank'?

So, If I find a bra... ooops, "Tank Mask" for a Manta tank, it should, from the best I can tell, fit my '00 M2s (i have more than one). Right?

the above photo is the slim tank, like on the S1 and my 97 M2.

This is my 97 Buell M2 with the S3 manta ray tank, S3 fairing, etc. I love the look of the Manta Ray tank, and that it holds a little bit more gas.
