$8,000 for insurance?!?!

Good God, no bike is worth that much. I could NEVER justify that much coin.

FWIW, I pay ~$900/yr for full coverage on my 1125R and all but collision on my XB12. My coverages are all maxed out except for the collision on the XB. Clear record, 27 yrs old, married. I'd be shopping around if I were you!

I know it's crazy. The lady was like "Let me see what pulls up...*GASP*"
I guess whenever you hear an insurance sales person gasp before they tell you the price you know it's not going to be good.

I definitely am shopping around - even Gieco was near $5,000

Not sure if this is going to end up working for me, but I'm still looking around.

I am 18 years old, have one speeding ticket.

Insure for an R6 pre ticket was only $400 a year, now with the Buell and the ticket its $600 a year.

I believe its State Farm and I share the policy with my father.

Progressive quoted me (pre ticket) $5,000 for the R6 as a single insurance policy. F' that.

When I was there - Highroads H-D in Highland Park,NJ had a white and a black 09 XB, and a couple '081125r. Pretty good deals as is but definitely make them an offer. This is Liberty's sister store, ask for Nicole.

Thanks Augsts, for the tip!

Jraice, I called state farm today and they said they wont insure my motorcycle since I don't have my car insurance through them - seems to be a NY policy.

I troll around periodically on the 1125 board, and I don't see any reason to worry about that motor.

Some guys on that board have a bunch of miles on their bikes already. Last I remember, one guy was approaching 50K miles, and there were several in the 30-40K range as well.

It has been suggested that Rotax built that motor with a healthy safety margin, knowing full well that EB wanted to go racing with it.

1)which insurance company you went with and why
2)how much they are charging you
3)AND for those who might be interested, a price on the XB9R

Gotcha.

1) Esurance, All State, Nation Wide, Travelers, Progressive and Geico.

As far as the one I went with, it's a private insurance company in Jersey. I'll officially "go with them" once the XB is sold.

2) All were over $5,000 - Esurance being the most expensive, with $9,000 (annually.)

I'm pretty young (20) which is probably making a huge difference. But to put it in perspective, with my 07 xb9 I pay $2,500 annually with Progressive - for the 1125R they wanted $8,000

3)Anyone who's interested in the XB I'm looking for between $5,500 - $6,000 (according to a few dealers that's reasonable... I could be way off, willing to discuss it.)

Whats funny was I was looking the other day at Esurance, they wanted about $4500/yr just for my 09 CR, they wouldn't even let me add multiple bikes to the plan! Thats more than I pay for same coverage on progressive with two 1125's, a blast and a XB12ss.

You guys must have high insurance laws or something. I pay approx $500.00 a year full coverage 08 XB 12 (37, no tickets) and can take it out in the winter while still being covered. Which in New hampshire isn't likely, but if a 60 deg. day in DEC crops up I'M not worried about a locall jaunt around uninsured.

I'm using a private insurance company in MD ... I'm 24 with a clean record ... and I mean NOTHING on it. Bike is an '03 XB9R and I pay $450/yr full coverage. I don't think it'd be worth having a bike to me if insurance was nearly as much as another bike ... per year.

Just for kicks, when I called Geico to get a quote, they wanted $1,800/yr ... bull. Just shop around, and don't skimp on the small companies ... most of the time they'll be better to get your business.

The company I'm leaning towards is a private company in Jersey... only thing is that they require a decent amount upfront which has me a little skeptical.

I guess getting old and no points is a blessing.

Illinois, no tickets, almost 43, male, married and I pay Geico 216.00 a year, full coverage on my XB9R.

20 y/o 4 speeding tickets (all when i was 17 and in the car) and i pay 170/yr for comprehensive through Sentry (they own a couple different ins. co's such as dairyland and foremost) for my 03 9r

progressive and geico wanted over 500 for liability coverage!

This is in the midwest if that means anything.

I think living in NY plays a big part of these ridiculous prices

Typically larger cities are MUCH more expensive due to high rate of damage and theft. Philadelphia is notoriously expensive so I imagine NY is insane.

I'm in York, Pa. Full coverage (comprehensive and collision) with highest coverage of $500,000 and $250 deductible on a Blast and '08 Uly is only $180 a year through Progressive Insurance. I have Geico auto insurance, but they can't touch Progressive on motorcycle pricing rates. Everyone I know belongs to Progressive. If you belong to H.O.G. you can get a discount as well. Oh, and btw, I'm 36, no tickets, single, have a master's degree (they give you a discount for a bachelors and a bit larger discount if you have a masters), MSF, etc.

Believe or not rates were even cheaper then they are now, but rose when Pa did away with their helmet law.

The whole of NY state is higher than many other states. Just for liability on my 03 9R was $135 with the minimums per year. Never checked on comp and collision because I knew it would be stupid expensive. It's not like they would really give me anything if I wreck it, they can almost always come up with a reason for not paying out.

The best would be to have an 1125 and an XB. There is no way that (when!) Buell returns, there will ever be another air-cooled Buell. (no harley, no air-cooled v-twin is my thinking). So enjoy the air-cooled bike while you have it, but wouldn't it be nice to have an 1125, too? An I greedy to want that?

Not true Toast I live in NJ we are worseand for the CR I am only at 450 full coverage. The probability of a young age and A ticket or 2 is driving your price higher. I would get a fake address in PA and register and insure there if the former quotes are accurate you may save 3-7 K per year Hell you could rent an apartment for a year in PA for that
