I know similar questions are floating around, and after reading a bunch of posts I figured I'd chime in. I don't post much around here but I do tons of reading!

Anyhoot - I have a 2007 XB9R with just under 3,000 miles. I do a fairly light amount of riding (maybe once a week - twice if I'm lucky) but when I ride I like to ride fast and hard. I'm new to the Buell family and with the recent uproar over the discontinuation of Buell it seems like now is the time to buy, with dealers slashing prices left and right.

So, here's my dilemma: Keep my beloved XB9R or try to sell it and go for the 1125R, which I believe would be an "upgrade"

I wouldn't mind more power and would love to know what you guys thing.

I can't afford both right now so if I do anything it would need to be one or the other.

Thanks for your opinions - I look forward to hearing what you have to say!

Going to be tough to get much $$$ for your bike but... an 1125R will be a huge jump up from a 9. Almost double the HP with similar torque I would imagine.

You can get a good deal on the 1125R but you can also get a great deal on a lot of Japanese or even British (I really want a Speed Triple : )...) bikes which are much quicker then the XB.

I do know Jap bikes can be cheaper... I just love the handling Buell offers - I've become a big fan of their bikes and would love to stay with the company.

I'm sure my bike is worth a lot less now than it was a few weeks ago, but "what are ya gonna do?" If I keep it, I'm sure it will rebound over the years.

I was thinking about an 1125R for a second bike until I got an insurance quote. It was something like $900 more than an XB. (I ended up getting an XB12XT.) And to me anyways, the XB's are still tons of fun on the street. It's easy to always want more but for the roads in my area, I probably wouldn't ride an 1125R any harder or faster anyways.

The 1125R is a fantastic machine, and makes the XB look and feel like some kind of hoopdie. Take one for a spin. When I first demoed my CR, my XB was in for service. Immediately after my demo, I walked up to the service counter and told them not to bother fixing my bike.

I have a XB12s and just bought a 1125r.All the things that I like to do 0-70 the r will do at 60-100. XB for tight city streets ,r when I want to find the faster twisties. I'm pleased to have both. Two different styles.

Froggy... I'm afraid to demo a cr, don't want to hate my bike, can't afford to change...

Although I still think my next bike will almost surely be a Speed Triple.

Anyways...

Dc29, what is it your XB doesn't do as well at 60-100?

My XB feels great at 0-70, feels just as great at 60-100, feels just fine at 100-140 as well.

Its just fine everywhere.

Accelerate too those two speeds in about 1.8 seconds : )

I am sure the trade in on your SS is about the same as a new CR : )

Trade in the same as a CR? Doubtful... plus I spent a ton on mods...

Anyways though I like my XB, dont really like the CR's looks...

My next bike is going to be a Speed Triple, probably similar power to the CR with my kind of looks. But that is years away.

I love my XB. My first and my second (XB9 and XB12). I love my 1125R more. Ride one, you'll instantly know if its for you or not.

+1 I loved my XBs, and just traded-in the XB9SX on an 1125R. The 1125 is amazing. The handling is telekinetic. The Rotax pulls hard.

I also have a CBR600F4i (now for sale), It really can't
compare to the 1125.

Thanks for all your input. Sounds like I really need to get on an 1125R and see how I like it - I'm sure I'll love it.

Any idea what my bike is worth? Its in mint condition, never in an accident or anything.
I'm assuming trading it in would be a loss, so I guess I'm better off selling to an individual?

Thanks for the comment about insurance- hadn't thought about that!

What's your bike worth? Whatever someone is willing to pay. Sorry for the smart ass remark, but it's true - especially at the end of the season on the heels of Buell's closure. My guess would be mid-$4k range. FWIW, my 05 XB12S w/ 10k has received no bites at $4450. I've decided to just keep it rather than sell at a loss. Be prepared to do the same - at least until spring anyway.

Off the top of my head, I would say about $5k. You could possibly trade straight up for the 1125.

Brumbear bought a 09 CR at Bergen County HD in Jersey for $5300 OTD. Thats the best in our area that I know of.

Ok cool, I'll give them a call. I got mine in Bellmore, NY. Went there two weeks ago and not one left on the floor. I do know they didn't sell them... Wonder where they moved them to...

If anyone knows of any other places please let me know.

Also, froggy, what's your opinion on the R vs CR

They are both fantastic machines. The fairing on the R is nice on the highway. The fueling feels smoother on my R than the CR, so I guess I need to get my CR reflashed to the latest software. Both have plenty of power and will not disappoint. I have done 1200 mile each way voyages to Georgia on my CR, and it was more comfortable than my XB12SS and Uly.

Jury is still out on which 1125 I like better, they are both just that damn good.

Toast,
How do you know that Bellmore did not sell them? I called them the other day and the salesman told me they sold them all out. Does not matter. I am not sure why anyone would buy from them anyway. I was dumb enough to support them on my first 2 Buells. I did like the one mechanic that I would request to work on my bike. He was top shelf. The rest .................

Mike, I asked the manager over there and I believe he said they moved them elsewhere and actually had a few downstairs. And I agree, they are horrible. My next buell will not come from them.

Yea, each of my 1125's cost 3x as much as my XB and Blast combined, I will be jumping ship to Gieco soon.

Try Geico or State Farm. My liability and comp on the 1125 was like $20 more than my XB.

My only thoughts on swapping the XB out:

The XB is a tested and proven machine, and simple enough that you can do your own work.

The 1125R/CR, on the other hand, is new enough that nobody really knows what to expect down the road. They may run like scalded cats now, but later on, what kinds of issues are going to be cropping up? And who are you going to turn to... Harley? And you thought getting them to work on the XB's was like pulling teeth..... I'm thinking a monkey with a prybar might be better equipped (I'm talking about your majority chromosexual dealerships, mind you, not those very few that actually know anything about Buell).

Just something else to think about.

~SM

Thanks SM - really appreciate your input. I'm definitely considering the "long-term effects" of the 1125R. Buying a new product with little to no company backing you up is definitely a bit scary...

Toast - I have an '07 XB9R that I purchased new and have 13000+ miles on and have been thinking the same. Should I get a 1125R or keep my 9?

Took her for a ride today for some 45 miles or so (55F here in the Chicago area today!) and my mind was made up. Keeping the 9.

Why?

1. I'd really (really) miss the shake at tickover.
2. She is better looking than an 1125R IMO.
3. Easier to service, modify and she is air-cooled. I like air-cooled engines.
4. The HD derived engine. Dislike HD. Love the chest full of cams engine.
5. I love the bike. Doubt I'd bond with any other like I have my 9. Yes, my wife thinks I am ill.

I'm looking to upgrade my X1 to a more reliable XB myself.

Bellmore: Wouldn't give prices over the phone and not that close to me so screw it. Kenny (service) is a great guy, but everyone else...
Riverhead: Had an 08 XB last week for $7k. I think they had a 08 1125R
New Roc: Last week had a few to choose from. Said they wouldn't be beat on price if you have it written.
Bergen County (right outside of giants stadium): I went to check out the 05 XB12 they had for $4600 on ebay. It missing the diffuser (chin spoiler?) and has a dent in the header, I'm thinking something screwy happened.
They had a red 09 CR that the guy said $6k + tax. I wish I knew that someone got $5300 OTD. If I could get the same, thats too good to pass up. I just saw it on ebay with a BIN of $9000 from a different seller.
Last I heard, Syracuse had a few new models.

I've been debating about new vs. old.
I said I would never buy a vehicle new because of the resale value, but at these prices you can't loose too much.
I'd rather not finance since I just bought a house. Maybe if I sold my bike first, but that's not happening until next summer.
Insurance: I'm paying under $400 for comp and theft from Progressive. I'd pay about the same for an 03-05 XB9, the 12 was about $100 more. An 09 XB12R was $900 for the same coverage.

I do love the 09 12R all blacked out with the red wheels and would not change a thing, but all those things add up - especially insurance.

I've read alot about how great the 1125's are, but it's an unproven motor and coming from a company that's shutting it's doors. They're had to find and the dealers aren't too excited about demoing low milage bikes with limited stock.

I'm just going to wait it out and pick up the best deal I can find. If you do decide to get a new one and need to get rid of it, I'm local, looking to pick one up

Blackandchrome - Thanks for the heads up on the different locations. Kenny in Bellmore is really helpful - other than that.. eh..

Insurance seems to be the biggest problem... I have full coverage with progressive for about $2,300 now... It's a bit pricey because I'm young (So they say). They wanted $8,000 for the 09 1125R. Way out of my price range.

The only thing holding me back at this point is insurance. I cant afford anywhere near $8,000 /yr for insurance, especially if the bike is only going to cost me somewhere around $6,000

Anyhoot, I'm still on the hunt for quotes. Going to try State Farm today.

Froggy - I don't know much about Rotax, honestly.
