Im having trouble getting the wheel up in second gear.. going about 40mph; I pull in the clutch, near-pin the engine/throttle, dump the clutch, and the wheel sometimes gets up but not high enough to impress myself. My tire pressure is about 30warm, 26cold. Any tips?

Lean back, the Firebolt keeps your weight forward and it will prevent it from coming up.

You can pull 3rd gear on a firebolt, if you got the balls.

Wheelies are a fine art, and I have two broken vertibrea in my neck to prove it.

Have you tried revving to 4000 letting off and getting back on it full throttle really fast? Might be easier on your clutch, lol.

Try standing up a bit so you can shift your weight further back. Left foot on rear peg might help, keep your right foot covering the rear brake just in case, as we know you like to eat primary covers.

4 grand at 40 mph sit back on seat and slip clutch. This has worked for me on the Bolt and the Lightning and they were both 9's. You should have no issue at all with the 12.

After oil changes I usually ride around the block to check get bike warm to check oil level, this is the only time I will ride without a jacket, it feels so free, but naked, that must feel exhilarating!

Buell streaking - somebody must have done this?

Nice, so you ride no gear when you are most at risk, right after an oil change. Hope your drainplug was tight and not lubing your tire! : )

Gear or no gear, if you get wiped out because you forget to tighten the drain plug on your own bike then you are a perfect example of a theory from some guy named Chuck Darwin.

My main concern is always safety, I will always continue to check everything before I ride. Anyways, riding down my suburban street, turning around and riding back never reaching speeds over 25. That being the only time I ever ride without gear, you're going to criticize me Froggy?

Don't change the topic, back to wheelies!

Ask my cousin Tom, he was taking his 1125R around the block, I don't even think he got fast enough to fully release the clutch in first, hit some gravel in an intersection and learned the hard way that it was worth the extra 20 seconds to put on the gloves.

practice on a dirtbike, when you get it up in first, just shift to second, third etc.....
if you want to master the art of the wheely, here are 2 recommendations.
1)NEVER wheely on command, only when IT feel right!
2)NEVER past a cop, they don't think its as cool as you do.
just my.02

try stand up wheelies. once i felt smooth with sit down wheelies, i started all over by doing stand ups. it helped my balance and control tremendously. now i can ride sitdowns like that guy was dreaming about.

I'm starting to be able to get the front up in 2nd on my 08 12R. Tank has to be damn near empty, and I gotta conciously get back on the seat a little bit, 40-45 mph, slip the clutch grab some gas and let her rip. Doesn't come up nearly as well as first gear, but I'm still working my technique. I need a better clutch lever, my hands are too small.

Lightnings will power up in 2nd no problem too. Usually at about 40

Mr Friday the 13th (that is the reference Jason13?), if you're 12'n it, I take it your a bit better at wheelys than I. lol

I still get a little uneasy getting close to the balance point (sit downs), I'm just now getting good at carrying them out in first and not just popping it up and accelerating furiously until it drops. Either way I've got the bounce up mastered in 1st, and well on my way to clutch ups in 1st and 2nd, now just need to get the whole balance point figgered out.

Then again this is my first bike that could ever really be considered a wheely machine, every other bike I've owned could bring it up, but never keep it there, just two underpowered and usually took a huge bounce to get anything remotely resembling a wheely out of em.

Hell I still get a kick out of "Top Gun"ing it through humped intersections and lofting the front end.

if you change your shift pattern to gp you can slam it in to 2nd ezer and carry it longer just on power no balance. sitting down is a good way to get into it keep your foot on that rear break just in case

I like the 2nd gear wheelies better then 1st gear ones, im doing pretty good : D .. they are much smoother and less finicky to work with once you get it down

I figured out a way to beat the 'sickness' of when your in that mood where you cannot get it up at the moment of time.... shimmy the bike left to right (like you're dusting off the the tires).. and get the feel/rhythm of the bike back in your bones.
It'll dust that 'sickness' all off your head, (well for me it does the trick) and the bike feels right-at-home again to jump off once more : D
