I was looking at a pic of my 'bolt and musing to myself about a pair of integrated turn signal / mirrors like the 1125. I never entertained any serious thoughts of doing it because I'd not want to just cap the existing mounts and it hit me - what a keen spot to mount some aux headlights (where the turns sigs would used to have been).

Court, that mystery light looks small enough to fit the bill.

Who's on 1st, What's on 2nd............. and the mounts were compliments of Lowes stock material.

I thought about mounting them at the turn signal mounts but that was too much of a problem due to the molded flats for the stems.

Steve...anything new you can report? Are you progressing with this project? Or will BMC be providing a solution?

This may not be applicable, so FYI. Harbor Freight Tools has a sale on HID conversion kits for 9006, H4 & 9005 bulbs for $149.99. Unfortunately the Firebolt takes an H3.

Maybe there's hope soon for really effective affordable lighting?

my problem isn't with the bulbs, its the reflectors.........getting back on topic, who all has done the hella 90mm conversions, and what process of slicing and dicing of the stock mounting bracket as well as the hacking of the hellas did you have to take to make it work. the bracket as mentioned before in this thread would make it easier, but I just want to know how the folks that have already done it with or without this super bracket we are all waiting on, that have done it in the past, and how well its holding up if you just hacked the stock bracket.

Have fitted the car HID kit to my 07 Bolt.

I have changed out the hi beam only just in case it all goes pear shaped.

So much bright white light that even our truckers think its a rig coming over the hill.

The electronic control box is cable tied under the wring loom in the fairing and the bulb fits straight in.

The only mod needed was to put a bigger(wider) female spade connector on the black wire.

This will still fit the standard setup if I choose to go back(not likely but you never know)

The bulb soft starts/warms up when turned on and just gets brighter and brighter.

Toying with replacing the low beam as well because when you turn the high off it makes the low look seriously inadequate.

My only hesitation about installing the low beam would be the initial current draw as the low beam is hard wired on.

May affect the startup routine of the ecm/diagnostics.

Perhaps a relay and alternate switch could be installed in the cluster area. This would be useful for the tuning procedure as well and mean you would not have to remove the headlight fuse.

DD-I have put hella 90's on my bike. I went with two high beams and have aimed them so I can run both at night without getting too many people flashing me. I've had them on for about 6000 miles without problem, and they work very well. I usually use a tinted visor, and often forget to bring a clear, and still don't have much trouble seeing at night. I also believe they are so much brighter that they help quite a bit during the day also as I have noticed less people pulling out in front of me. I haven't done many mods to this bike but is the by far the best one I've done or will do. For me, I used the factory bracket along with the adjusting bolts. I tried explaining this in words but I'm not that verbose, so if you shoot me an e-mail if interested I can scan a drawing and shoot it your way..

No, not abandoned. Just *VERY* busy at the moment, and a sick dog that we had to put down this evening. Sorry for the lack of progress. But it's still in the works.

I mounted at set of Hellas on my bolt and what a difference. It is not the best looking setup and the adjustability is not what it should be but it works. I just cobbed the stock mounting plate and all is good. I can see again.
Steve, sorry about your dog. That is a terrible thing to have to do, but he is in a better place.

Thanks for the condolences Newbolt. "Tiny" the rottweiler was an AWESOME dog. But, she was 12 years old, and had one grapefruit sized tumor attached to her liver, and another tennis ball sized tumor attached to her splean. She will be seriously missed! Especially by my 6 year old son.

But, to get back on topic...

Isn't it amazing how much light the Hellas produce? I was shocked when I 1st turned 'em on, VS even brand new lightning lights it's night and day difference. I bet it's even more dramatic when you used to the stock & rapidly deteriorating firebolt lights.

I will be doing the bracket this winter. It's not something that will be done over night. I'm still trying to optimize the design to make it as inexpensive as possible. A solid billet piece that would replace the stock firebolt bracket would be seriously cost prohibitive. So I'm making it from several pieces, trying to reduce the amount of setups on the CNC machine as much as possible.

Once that is all done, I have to prove out the programs, and try to optimize that process. Then test fit 'em to my bike.

I will keep everyone apprised to the whole process as it progresses.

Thanks for the interest.

No fun to loose a 4-legged family member but, she is in a better place.

I may convert mine over next week since I have a few days off. Just in time for WINTER but, Spring follows shortly.

As far as the Firebolt headlight problem, it seems like a no brainer to me. The problem is that the headlight bucket is made of black plastic. It has to be coated in order for the inside to be reflective. It looks like there are no facets, just spherical and shiney. Why doesn't someone make some out of some shiney sheetmetal? Polished aluminum? Seems like there might be a number of folks who could be interested in buying a set after the bugs are worked out.
Now mind you, I'm not all that familliar with Firebolt headlights other than what I've read here on Badweb plus I have a bad habit of throwing out my opinion when nobody asked for it. Feel free to ignor this post or publicly chastise me for it.

Happy New Year!!

Panhead, "seems" like a no brainer, would actually be expensive(stamping tooling), and *NOT* be DOT approved. If someone WERE to get in to an accident, OR the headlights overheated and torched the bike, who would be to blame? No thanks.

The kit I will be producing, and eventually selling as a Badweb sponsor, uses DOT approved Hella 90MM lights.

It's been a *REALLY* busy non-riding season, work-wise for me. I am working on 'em, and will have something to out shortly.

I'm also switching the Hellas to HID in my bike. It should create a lighting nirvana : )

Since I *FINALLY* am down to human like hours at work, I can start machining up some brackets. I'm making the first one for myself, and the 2nd one goes to Diablobrian. After that, if I think I can make a few bucks, along with the shipping+badweb sponsorship, I'll start selling them.

I'll post a pic of the virtual 3D assembly probably this weekend.
