finished my temporary fix on my stock lights last weekend and it seems to be working out so far. Went to Autozone and spent 5.99 on some pretty chrome, metal tape about 5 inches wide. Spent about 2 hours at the dining room table cutting it into 1/4 inch wide strips and ran it long ways into the depth of the reflector. The tape has a mirror like sheen to it and it is made out of metal, so that should reduce the amount of burning. Since I put it in I've logged about 500 miles and it is holding up well so far. I also plopped down another 3.99 for a 100 watt bulb for my high beam and 19 for a silverstar low beam. This little surgery has more than tripled the amount of light I put out, and seems to be a simple lost cost solution for the short term.

Ducxl,

What are those funny little holes around the combustion chamber? My XB doesn't have those. Looks like some inferior, overly complicated technology to me.

Just to change the subject a bit. I installed my HID bulbs in new headlight assys yesterday. It's cold and rainy so I haven't gotten to ride and adjust the lights but from rolling it out in the driveway and in the garage they sure do seem bright... I installed 35w/4500K bulbs. The are replacements for the H3's in the FireBolts... They are almost plug and play, I had to make a couple of small adjustments but not much. Pretty easy to install and the ballasts I just sat up above the light assys and the fairing captures them just about right...

interesting to relate the thoughts of "Annony" on the subject of the "right side scoop" and their behavior on THIS subject.

Annony says:
What we find frustrating is that none of the people who criticize have to produce a product that works in all situations for everyone the way we do. When we explain it, we are called liars. F*** off, quite frankly. Abe is not toeing the company line, he is speaking from the facts on all the testing we do. Yes, testing, not theory. Nobody out there tests our motorcycles like we do. And testing means meeting all homologation standards in all world conditions. You can like your accessories as much as you want, but when you call us incompetents and/or liars, well as I said before, F*** off.

I'm not sure who Anon is in this case, but it's very disappointing to see someone from the company take that stance. I really don't care what someone says, or does, Buell has a higher standard to adhere to then this. There are always going to be people who think they can build a bigger and/or better product.... instead of saying F*&* off, let them do as they please and later realize that BUELL was actually correct. Very disappointing....... VERY.......

Wow.

At no time should a retailer/supplier/dealer tell a customer to f*** off. I don't care what the customer said to warrant it. That's just bad practice.

Being a provider of logistics services, I have encountered a lot of customers who told me to f*** off. Every single one of them eventually came around and used my services again. Because I didn't react in kind. If I had, I'd have never seen one of their checks again. Guaranteed.

That aside, I love my Buell. I don't love my headlights, but I got a new set of housings on Ebay for about $20 total, shipping included, for BOTH. Brand new in the packages. I bought some Silverstar bulbs and now I light up the night like never before. When the silver coating goes to hell again, I'll buy some more.

Or is that just a little Ducxl lie?

What i was relating was how Annony states about the extensive testing.

Abe is not toeing the company line, he is speaking from the facts on all the testing we do. Yes, testing, not theory. Nobody out there tests our motorcycles like we do. And testing means meeting all homologation standards in all world conditions

I call BS on that, these headlights have a HISTORY going back to 2003.

Ducxl says:

followed by quoting Anony's reaction to personal attacks (not by Ducxl) on a non related subject (RSS).
------------------------------------------
Here's my frustration with what you just did.
The issues with XBR headlights is not related to the Anony quote in any way shape or form. It was bad enough that somebody called Abe a liar causing Anony to have a moment of perhaps poor judgment.
But then you take that low point onto this tread. Not good.
And here's why. You added more fuel to the anger already existing in the other thread and if I were an Anony or Abe or anybody working for Buell I'd just sigh and be quite reluctant to contribute valuable information to us, the Buell customers here on BadWeB.

I am not here to teach you how to behave, but please consider your fellow Bueller before you engage in more vitriol toward a Buell employee thus putting at risk the camaraderie we all enjoy with the Buell employees on the board.

Thanks for listening
Asbjorn

It was bad enough that somebody called Abe a liar causing Anony to have a moment of perhaps poor judgment.

I've read it over & over again, and I still can't, by any stretch of the imagination see where anyone was called a liar.

...if I were an Anony or Abe or anybody working for Buell I'd just sigh and be quite reluctant....

I don't think you have anything to worry about Doerman. You can rest assured that no-one from buell will go ANYWHERE NEAR a firebolt headlight thread!
So they will never see Ducxl's comment.

I agree.

When you produce anything in a corporate world very rarely are all the decisions made by the one person.

It is usually a conglomeration of talented people with their own area of expertise meeting both their own and the goals of the company.

The beancounters also have to be satisfied.

The end result is sometimes not quite there but usually gets there in the end with the constructive feedback of the end user.

Calling them liars or questioning their morals is not constructive and quite often results in the answer posted.

And rightfully so.

When Abe was accused of "toeing the company line" that implied that Abe knew it to be different and misrepresented the facts. That's easily interpreted as liar.

ANYWHERE NEAR a firebolt headlight thread!

Well, there's that. It is a heated topic (no pun intended). And if I were a Buell employee I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole until it was completely solved either!

Cheers

Fair enough.

I've got one last thing to add as it pertains to "interpreted as a liar" is concerned.

Some time ago, a friend of mine had an issue with his buell, and after being unable to fix it, someone at the buell dealer made a very poor suggestion to him as to how to deal with it. Whether they said it sarcastically or sincerely, is up for debate, but they did say it.

When he posted about it here on badweb, someone said "I don't believe that." (in reference to what he was told by the dealership employee)

Others accused that individual of calling my friend a liar. But in the end it was decided that no-one had called anyone a liar.

Certainly some people could have interpreted that as being called a liar, but it's just individual interpretation now isn't it?

This most recent issue on the RSS thread is vague at best, but let's not have double standards here.

It can't be one way for when the consumer's credibility is questioned, and another way when it's the factory being second guessed.

Nobody called anyone a liar. People can interpret all they want, but it is what it is.

Well....

I got my Fuell today, and finally put all the pieces together.

This argument started in another thread, and jumped over here. I was out of the country for ten months, and a lot of things changed, but others didn't.

edit: that is to say, this thread started first, and a lively debate was in progress... then a fire started somewhere else and the embers got caught in the wind. So then I looked up and my roof was ablaze.

Anyone know what brand/model it is?

Well i'm now hoping that someone has finally fed us a photo that BMC is actually "working" on a solution.
A solution i'll gladly pay for. Can't forget good 'ole Steve MacKay is trying too.

But i may be wrong

The way that bar wraps around is terribly confusing.Interesting dimensions of that light.I almost want to say BMW/GS1150.
Looks like i see a left side fork leg though.

Oh yeah, and Court said "Robust".Another interesting clue.

Nope . . . I saw it at the dealer yesterday on an Iron Butt equipped GS . . I like it and am wanting to add supplemental lighting to 2, perhaps 3, of my personal bikes.

Do you know the brand?
