So I brought the new Bike home for the first time the other day.

When I picked it up from the dealership's storage facility, the check engine light was on, so I brought it back in, and a few guys hovered over it for a bit and found that the fan fuse was blown. So they put in a new fuse, ran it for a few minutes, put it back on the computer and all was well. So I took her home.

This morning, the weather was good, and I figured I'd take the bike to work and finish up the first 50 miles of break in. So I wheel the bike out of the garage, and fire it up, and the check engine light was on again. Turns out the fan fuse is blown, again. So back into the garage the bike went.

So tonight, I got home and decided to do a little diagnostic work, myself. So I found the fans, and manually turned the blades on each, to see if one might be seized. And sure enough one of the blades turned, and the one on the right, DIDN'T. So after wedging my fingers in there and feeling around, THERE'S SOMETHING IN THERE. It feels like an electrical connector or something, but it's in between the fan and the radiator.

So tomorrow, I have to get the bike into the back of the truck, get the bike back to the dealership and get them to fix this irritation. I'm counting this as a warranty / assembly thing. As much as I'm tempter to tear the thing apart and fix it myself, I'm pissed enough that the bike has less than 15 miles on it and has this sort of an issue.

Has anyone else seen an assembly problem like this? Any ideas what is in that area that might be caught in the fan? I tried finding cutaways, but haven't had much luck. Thoughts?

Improper assembly or foreign debris lodged against the fan blade...based upon what you've described.

Obviously...since it was blowing fuses, the motor was trying to work but restricted.

Since "listening" to this bike's issues from almost day one, I can't recall this being "a" issue...until now.

Sometimes the simplest of things go miss-diagnoised. Sorry that the dealership techs didn't physically check the fans...

Take her back in and have them take the entire pod apart to find the cause and correct.

And no...mine didn't - doesn't do that.

Hopefully...that will be the end of your new ownership negatives and be looking forward more so to the positives!

Best of luck!

I'm sure I remember that a few of the very first ones built had the fan connector routed wrong and it hit the blades.
Looks like one got out into the wild.
Warranty fix - re-route the wires properly and/or replace the fan.

I can't believe that the dealer didn't know that fuses blow for a reason, and never for nothing.

I won't be letting that dealer touch my bikes.....

Yup. I checked it out tonight with mirrors and come creative flexing of my fingers. Looks like the fan wiring goes from the back of the fan, around the front of the 'scoop' and in through a small hole. Inside the fan shroud, the wiring is bound up in the fan blade, and the actual connector is what's causing the fan to lock solid.

Unfortunately, I can't get it to the dealer, so they are going to come to my place to get it next week. I'm a little cranky about the wait, but the weather is going to be crap anyway, so it's not like I'm missing out on riding. I definitely don't want to ride it without the fans doing their job. And I can't figure out for the life of me how to get this into the back of my S10.

Does anyone know where the tie down location for his bike is? I tried using the lower triple tree, but if I try to ratchet the front of the bike down, it'll pull the radiators off. I'm not a big fan of attaching the straps to the hand controls... So, how does one secure this bike in the back of a pickup truck or a trailer?

I saw on thread on here about someone doing some kind of web of straps between their tree and their wheel to get it tied down, but that just seems like a lot of work, and chances for the paint and plastic to get rubbed a LOT. I have to imagine that some engineer was thinking of transporting these things with something other than a set of wheel chocks.

Thoughts?

This is how I tied mine down:

Trailer

Watch out with the "canyon dancer" that you don't bugger up the switchgear.
I used soft ties around the fork legs as an extra tie down point.

I installed two new eyelets on the front floor of the bed on my '94 S10 after a 6:00 a.m in the dark episode where I could not strap it down. I have some Canyon Dancer straps that go across the bars and then my normal tie downs hook to them. It is not ideal, and I am looking for a better way, but for now it works.

The problem with the S10 is the hooks are high at the top of the bedside. It needs an attaching point on the floor of the bed in a position of your choice, so the pods don't interfere. The strapping angles are so different then tying down my Heli bar equipped Firebolt.

badwebber/badweather...er,

Please don't take this the wrong way but due to your questions here, it seems way too much trouble to tie her down, let alone, load in your s-10.

That being said, what about disconnecting the electrical plug to the drama fan and riding her in? If your not in too heavy of traffic, this shouldn't be any worry. If so, just keep an eye on the coolant temp and don't let it get above 220'F between shutdown/cooloff periods.

Just a thought in getting your warranty work done sooner than later with the least of hassle.

Who knows, you just might have more fun riding it there then hauling it?

Ride safe/when you can/best of luck, mm

eh, we had snow today, so I'm not missing a whole lot of good riding : )

Once I told the service folks that something was jammed in the fan, I was told not to ride it. I'm sure I could take it apart and fix it, I just don't want to. I asked about disconnecting that fan and just running on one... but that didn't seem to go over well. My guess is that it's just the typical 'not familiar enough with a new bike to know if it's a good idea' thing.
Thanks for the advice on strapping the bike down, guys.

i just soft tied around the lower triple tree on both sides and strap it down. i also shove a strap through the back axle. make a loop and hook another strap off the back of that loop so it cant roll forward.

18 hours to georgia and 18 hours back. it never missed a beat.

i keep looking at the canyon dancers but i see to many people trash there grips and such everytime they tie down.

Hi All.

Just a quick update. I got my bike back this weekend, and all is well. The dealership was great about chasing down the replacement parts and getting it all buttoned up and back to me.

I got through the first 50 miles and the bike is running like a champ. Looking forward to the rest of the break-in : )

Thanks for the info.
