I saw this on the Tip Of The Day on MCN and I think it's a great idea! Dang, How come I didn't think of that?

"Catch thieves on camera"

"Imagine this, you've got your brand new R1, SP-1, Blade or whatever, parked outside you house. Its a cold, dark night. You are wrapped up inside with all the curtains closed and can’t see outside.

Anyone could be snooping about and have your pride and joy away before you realise. The answer ? (and my tip of the day) CCTV!

It may sound extreme but for a paltry 80 quid (from Argos) you can have a two camera set up wired through your video and can check out the situation at the touch of a button!

I believe you can record what goes on when you are out or asleep as well. After spending the guts of ten grand on a bike, a further 80 quid is nothing. It will give you extra peace of mind and it would be a great toy to show the guys when they come round for a beer!"

Jimjib: replace the accelerator pump diaphram. Might as well put on a new boot and there is on little o-ring type seal in there as well. Not really an o-ring, more like a little black rubber cylinder that seals the pump plunger. The diaphram itself is probably the culprit, but for a couple bucks you can replace all three. Replaced the diaphram on my M2 recently and fuel puking at the boot stopped as well as much better off the line acceleration.

Truly an honest question here. I profess to know jack about racing and its various sanctioning organizations. That said, could the AMA be attempting to align themselves with European racing scene and the Boxer Cup series that is running there? Could this not be just a misguided attempt to become more “Euro” in the eyes of the AMA and bring a broader spectrum of racing to the states? Enquiring minds want to know!!!!

Doesn't anyone remember the BMW battle of the legends series featuring famous semi-retired racers on identicalboxer twins. It was popular and good for the sport, until Roger Reimans death during practice killed the series too. There is a possibility that the ama is just trying to fill seats with what worked in the past and a lot of people came out to see this series.

Please specify which Santa and Bigfoot to which you refer?

There are at least 11 Santa Claus' and 11 Bigfoots who would be surprised that someone does not believe they actually exist. Especially thier parents!

I believe this is part of it. If the AMA and WSBK share the same set of rules, the manufacturers will not have to "homologate" two different bikes, one for WSBK and one for AMA.

This is the reason that Aprilia is not in the AMA yet. For WBSK, the Mille SP is the model they race with, in the AMA they could only use the Mille R, due to the number of units sold in each country.

Aprilia, and other manufacturers want the AMA and WBSK to get together on a common set of rules to make it easier for their bikes to qualify.

Quote:

This is American, we are talking about the American Motorcyclist Association, and we are talking about the only American manufacturer of sporting motorcycles

AMA did that back in 94, they let HD slide on the homologation rules for the VR1000 so they could race it. HD ended up selling 50 bikes, in POLAND! The bike didn't work very well as you know. But it put fans in the stands.

Do you know which year the Daytona 200 had the largest advanced ticket sales??? That would be 1999, when Scott Russell signed with Harley. Scott had won his FIFTH Daytona the year before, and was now racing the HARLEY F'ING DAVIDSON VR1000.

People wanted to be there to see if an AMERICAN riding an AMERICAN SUPERBIKE could actually win the 200.

We're still waiting.

As to which bikes qualify, again I repeat it's all based on sales. AMA wants to race what it's fans & members are riding these days, and if you go to a motorcycle parking area at an AMA race like I did at VIR this year, you won't find many Buells. In fact I saw more Aprilias than Buells this year!!!!

When Buell starts selling 15-20 thousand bikes a year, then the AMA might "acomodate" them. In the meantime, have fun in FUSA, CCS, WERA and the like.

As far as I know the BMW Cup is a Daytona only deal, the series will not be at every AMA race.

So I think Erik B is blowing it a little out of proportion. Yes the AMA lied to him, but it's only going to happen at Daytona, not for the whole racing season.

At least BMW sells a street legal Boxer cup replica bike.....

Sharon:

Most ignorance is borne of lack of knowledge. Knowledge is my life; let me make you an offer.

You be in Milwaukee, WI on Thursday @ 10:00am. I'll pick you up, I'll take you on a tour of the Buell factory, introduce you to R&D and Product Development Fngineers, We'll have lunch with Erik Buell and you may ask any and all questions you have. At 2:00pm (he can't get there until then) we'll meet with the team leader of Future Product Development and finally with one of the neatest persons to ever come to America from India who leads Buell Quality Control.

Then, armed with information, you can speak based on information and people will put some stock in what you have to say.

The offer is open.

I've not got time to go into detail now, but there's a ton of truth to "the more you know, the better it gets".

In addition, I have a notably diminished tolerance for folks who've forgotten the phrase from the Deserada...

Quote:

Avoid loud & agressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain & bitter; for always there will be greater and lessor persons than yourself

I've little tolerance of folks who when they are 2 feet down, seek to find resolve not by solving their problems but to find someone who is, or can be convinced they are, 3 feet down.

With regard to the "why would someone buy a Buell", I can answer that. I've been a student of that for a number of years and have spent a great deal of time studying the consumption habits of moto-consumers. I continue to be entertained by those who think discretionary income is spent in a logical manner.

I'd go into detail here and share the mathematical equations that are accepted to define discretionary distribution of personal captial, but it gets pretty complex, even dealing with an individual consumer. Make that exponentially (literally) more complex when you introduce ego and the effects of multiple consumers who can see/know each others choices. If you are a glutton for punishment, I could go on to the next quantum level; which introduces stability of choices among "addictive" items, such as cigarettes. If you insist on beating yourself up, see the Gary Becker's (1992 Nobel Laureate in Economics) book.

For now suffice to say (quoting Becker) "De Gustibus Non Est Dispartum" which, loosely translated, cautions us not to quarrel over tastes and to terminate a dispute once it has been resolved into differences in taste, presumabley because there is no further room for rational persuasion.

Anecdotal opinions and rumors are fun intenet discussion. Don't look for any major manufacturer to base an investment decision on something so arbitrary and capricious.

You may not "like" Buell, but to allude to someone who's done the things that Erik Buell and Buell Motorcycle Company has as "stupid" contributes little to a meaningful discussion or serves to erode my admiration for the man or the marque.....

Off to watch the marathon......

Court (and who said lunch was FREE??. . . :) )
