On the blast I recently picked up, there are some small rust looking areas around the hex screws that hold the gas cap assembly in place. Is there something I should check out that is causing this? Any way to clean it, or does it have to be replaced to get that sparkle back?

If the screws are plated and will do that if the plating is disturbed.

You can change them for stainless screws, or just spray them off with some PB Blaster, or penetrating oil and wipe them off.

mine seems to get petrochem gunk around the screws - about every 6 months I give it special attention when washing the bike.
