I recently purchased a 2002 blast in barney purple w/ pink graphics...I feel like a powerpuff girl. It wasn't my 1st choice (color), but I got one heck of a deal...at a stealership no less. It comes fully equipped w/ a windshield & bags (immediately removed upon receipt). Currently the dealership is installing a set of crossroads bars I supplied before they deliver it to me next week...also, I am waiting on a Pro Series intake I ordered from Southeast Harley. I haven't been able to decide on an exhaust, the sales guy at Southeast told me when I pick up the intake, have them dig around upstairs, they may have something they can cut me a deal on...that may be the deciding factor. I'll probably pick up the jets at that time.

I was considering the Vance & Hines, but it sounds like others think the Pro Series has a great tone (I don't like the black finish tho...) Everything's priced about the same & I really don't want to spend too much more than $200, if that. Rearsets will have to wait...$$$

This will be my 5th bike, my last being a sporty, which I sold do to the building of my house. I've got the bug bad & the blast always interested me, I'm afraid it's gonna feel like a scooter in comparison but the price was right.
This was before I added braided lines/cables & a bullet headlight. It had a polished ss supertrapp, kuryakin hypercharger, corbin (short) gunfighter w/ flames...I'm just a mere 5' tall, ness miirors w/ signals in the stalks, K&N superbars w/ 4 1/2" pullback risers, chrome controls & forks, low profile rear signals mounted to the struts...& a bunch of small misc. items.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v616/DaPeach/KarrisSporty.jpg (copy & paste)

I've already ordered the orange Buell tank stickers from the 2003 firebolt & some 3" orange checkered stripes w/ a silver shadow...I believe I may get the zero gravity purple windscreen unless they can make it in orange. I've found a copper iridium screen that's pretty kickazz but I'm not willing to pay $170 plus shipping for the unit. The corbin saddle is also in the future...I just can't leave well enough alone :P

So that's my deal in a rather large nutshell...comments, suggestions stongly encouraged...you...you...you...blastards!

Welcome DP!
Bodywork is available, cheap, on ebay, regularly (even yellow).
You'll appreciate how nimble the Blast is compared to your Sportster.
The PS exhaust is the built heavy duty like the original and should last a long time. Its also one of the quietest (not quiet!)available. It will set off car alarms! But if they can cut you a good deal on something else, go for it!
I'm always surprised when someone throws on the Crossroads before they even get their bike. For your height, you may find them a little too 'aggressive' but Chapparrel sells some superbike bars (low bars like an XB) for $22 including shipping if you want to try something else without a big $$ investment.Make sure the dealer gives you back the top handlebar clamps after putting on the Crossroads. You will need them if you change bars.(I did take off those hideaous 'baby apes' too the minute I got the bike home and put on drag bars).

Are you going to call it Barney? That will get you a lot of laughs, sometimes with you, sometimes at you! I got a good chuckle out of it!

Thanks! I was actually looking at a yellow one (prefer black or the new blue) before I set foot in the harley shop (just looking for a t-shirt) where they informed me that they had a bunch in the back (all of them purple, just my luck)...I think it'll look good w/ the orange & silver graphics tho.

I absolutely can't stand the factory bars & wasn't sure of my options. As for the crossroads...I'm a little concerned, but not terribly worried, but this is also why I'd like to hold off a bit on the rearsets to see where I'm at. I also think that the lower seat will help in this area (I've talked to corbin about altering the current one they have). Thanks for the advice on the clamps.

I couldn't believe how light the bike was when I first sat on it...anticipating the dark side lol

Barney may end up on my plate...BARNY

Thanks! I know a thing or two or three or maybe even four, but I'm still learning about this little beast.

Well SE Harley had nothing to offer me as far as a discounted exhaust. I'm still drooling over the V&H. I don't think I'd mind the noise too much, but I don't know if my fellow riders will, especially over any distance. I'm leaning towards the pro series due to maintenance ease & noise levels...but jeeze, I really like the looks of the V&H. I can't decide (women). Is there really that big of a sound difference between the two??

Also, I have my pro series aircleaner kit...do you see any problems that would need to be addressed in installing this w/o the exhaust upgrade (until I get the exhaust & jets)??

Any soundclips out there?

DaPeach--There's a fairly substantial sound difference between any two aftermarket exhausts. As far as the V&H, have you seen the Jardine? I'm not sure about the sound, but I think it's quieter than the V&H, possibly slightly louder than the Pro-Series. But, the performance will be much better than the V&H. Almost any other aftermarket exhaust will give better performance than the V&H, really. (Sorry to all those who are running the V&H...)
On the intake question, it would probably be better to wait. All it will do is make the bike leaner, you really won't see any performance gains by only doing the intake (unless you count popping on deceleration as a "performance gain", lol.)
On the soundclips question, I don't think there are. I looked for them, too, didn't find anything. Of course, I knew how the White Bros. sounded, but I was looking around for a while before I was directed to someone who had a WB for sale.
Oh, and speaking of performance exhausts, don't go with the V&H. lol...
Nah, do what makes you happy, but give the Jardine a look, they're on the market and easy to find (the V&H's strong point) AND will give you good bang for your buck.
And, no, I'm not getting kickbacks from Jardine or anything of the sort. lol...

I've seen the jardine quite a bit on ebay & there's a white bros on there now, but I need to wait about another month $$$...

The only thing that's gonna make me happy is making the right decision the 1st time...especially due to my many failed attempts at growing a money tree

The Pro-series intake - carry an extra intake boot, and keep it tight, though not rubber cutting tight, and you should be fine. I'd recommend the Pro-series exhaust over V&H due to the amount of maintenance involved with the V&H, but they deliver equal power/torque so its your choice.

The noise level doesnt seem like much until you put on the exhaust and realize its right under your ears! I would go with the Pro Series. Built like the original, quiet (relatively) and should be maintenance free (no packing or repairs, maybe the occasional paint).
DO NOT go with the White Brothers. While some have had some success with it (I believe due to modifications)many others (like myself) have had nothing but problems. After 10 months, 2000 miles, and 4 mufflers, I sold it and went with the Pro Series.

If you go with the WB - skip the torque cone, get the longer bolts and add 11 more discs, jet accordingly, 2 3/4 turns out from flat on the carb air setting - thats all I've done with mine and she keeps humming along, you'd love the sound and the performance is awesome.

WB still has the discs, you're on your own for the bolts (they only have ones for up to 18 discs.)

I'll measure the bolt this next weekend and let you know - unless you remember the length Scott?

Hmmmmmm... I think it was 3 1/2"... Probably best to measure it, I'm not completely sure.
