ED glad you are ok dude. I think bus drivers are bad all over the place. But deffinately worse in some areas. Friend of mine was in her car sitting at a stoplight and a bus rearended her. To add to it the had a bike on the bike rack on the front and one of the arms stopped just behind the drivers seat. The bus driver wasn't payin attention and hit her hard. Glad you are ok though.

Oh on a happier note I go and pickup a truck load of thumper parts tonight. One of the guys from the Aermacchi club is givin me a ton of spares.

Ed,
Glad your ok. Take it easy on the knee they take a while to heal. So the bus did not stop? Forget the old 600 upgrade or the 44 mag go for a lightning or a bolt courtesy of SF. Lucky your in SF some areas in the US if a metro bus rear ends your car its your fault.

What are the most popular aftermarket programmable ignition modules used on the blast? How do they sense TPI? I'm looking for something that I can use now with my (not stock) 40cv HD carb and stock engine and later after I've modified the engine. Thanks for any help!

Screaming Eagle Adj. ignition is the ticket, but unless you've replaced the valves, springs and guides don't raise your rpm above 6800 - the stock valve train will barely take that! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side!

ED, I got my estimate from the dealer (re: SUV ran it over), $1,300. I was most suprised by the price of the plastic body parts! That foot rest arm thing($125) that is a heavy aluminum or metal was almost half the price of the tank($225). I won't be getting a new bike, but the dealer said all red parts on my bike need to be replaced and that I should pick a new color if I like. I'll soon be riding BLACK ON BLACK ON TOP OF BLACK... all I need now are controls like the little japanese guys volkswagen in Cannonbal run. SWEET!

For the time being I know what a SF bay area heroin junkie might feel like days after quitting the smack. Withdrawal is painful. Even more painful is being in a town of 2,500 with 100 or more riding motorcycles inside a new york state protected "forever wild" park of 6.5 million square acres (new hampshire and vermont could fit inside us). OH THE WOES!

AARON "KYUSS"

although now I'm getting alot better with my pitching iron around the greens.

Yea - the plastic bits are steep - I'm going to get mine from our Iowa sponser - they beat SF by half! So Soon my little red Blast will go black to match out my other bike - going with the Vampyre Fairing - a mini cafe - flush signals, and I'm still up about bars since the people who mfg. my clipons now have 1 1/4" single spacers (the size of two of my spacers together - which is the max ammount of spacers you can safely run) - that means I could adjust the clipons to superbike height for around town and then just adjust down for getting serious in some curves or a track day - much like the Laverda's but without the hassle - my current ones are about 1/2 the height of superbike bars. Yea - you can really start jonesing to ride when your not! - lol - For those controls - see Dakota Digital - they come close - lol - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

ED yep yep a whole damn truckload of trouble. Chris really set me up. He just retired from racing this year so all his extras he had laying around are now in my hot lil hands including a Sprint H frame that has already been prepped for racing ...I'm getting the engines, frame swing are all cleaned up over the next couple weeks. Then the frame an swingarm will be powdercoated. Got enough parts for about 85% of the first race bike and about 65% of the second and still have a few more parts. *going into overload at the thought of all these parts*

ED yeah I can't wait to dive in and start getting things built up. Helps that have a guy with 20+ years experience with these bikes that I can get ideas from. Guys on Sacborg are suggesting doing one as a LSR bike and I have to admit its tempting.

Ltlboybuell glad to hear they will be getting your bike back together soon. course you could still use it as an excuse to get another bike to play with

Rebel,

Which displacement are they 250 or 350

Current LSR records for 250cc
M-PG = 43.391
M-PF = Open (no record on file)
MPS-PG = 75.313
MPS-PF = Open

Current LSR records for 350cc
M-PG = Open
M-PF = Open
MPS-PG = 75.437
MPS-PF = Open

M = Modified
MPS = Modified Partially Streamlined
PG = Pushrod Gas Engine
PF = Pushrod Fuel Engine

Some easy pickings to be had there.

250 Streamlined = 176 mph

I think it was somewhere in that range

I will be leaving in the morning to go to the bike rally at Myrtle Beach, SC. I'll be back next Saturday.

ltlboyblue wow an old benelli? you should deffinatly get it. see the excuse you can use on that one is its nice lil vintage bike.

spooky yeah i'm tryin to figure out how the got a 250cc motor from a sprint to push that streemliner to 176mph. even geared to the moon it seems like a stretch

Rebel,

Streamlining is a major PIA, too many rules cost very high. Modified would be sprint without any fairing, but can run with race chassis. Modified partially streamlined would be race chassis with either cafe fairing or full fairing that allows full view of your body. Vintage at Bonneville is built pre 1956.

This is from the 2003 rule book, which can be purchased from the SCTA or USFRA web sites. Rule book is a must have to start this project if you are serious. Cost $10. The 350cc class has more open records I would probably start there if it were me.

Open records are such that they will set "a reasonable minimum" to set the record. Don't have to beat already set records. Gas class means that you have to run their supplied fuel. Fuel class lets you run other fuels if you so desire.

How does the Screaming Eagle ignition sense the throttle position? Can it be programmed to run on and advanced curve all the time if I can't set up a TPI sensor? I have a carb off of a harley that just used a vacuum sensor, not electronic, like the stock blast one. Right now, I only have access to the first curve and no spark advance on the stock module because there is no TP input from anything. This really hurts my throttle response because I have to roll on very slowly or else Black smoke shoots out the exhaust and there is a pause before I get acceleration. I just want to know that if I buy the Screaming Eagle Adj. ignition, it will solve my problem, not just become a 250$ more expensive one!

There may be somebody here who could answer that - but I think your quickest way to get an answer for that would be to call our sponser Nallin Racing - they run different carbs with the Blast and would be more than happy to sell you the unit for less than that price after they answer your questions - let us know what the answer is - knowledge is the most valuable tool!
Been working on the design for my rear sets - this is going to be easier than I thought! Heck - the hard side will be the brake side and between studing the Banke set up and my own Crossroads - I think the hardest part will be getting the correct length replacement engine bolts which should really be no problem - lol -

The Blast TP sensor is just a potentiometer. The service manual talks about the range of resistance that comes from it. It'd be pretty easy to wire in a fixed resistor in place of it if you want to just keep it on one curve or the other all the time. Not at all sure that has anything to do with your black smoke though.

The SE module has both a Blast mode (with TPS input and electric choke output) as well as a Twin mode (with VOES input). So another option would be to rig up a VOES and run the module in twin mode. You'll have to cut a second window in your timing cup (put it in the middle of the exhaust stroke) so the module will have the correct understanding of the engine rpm and therefore generate curves and rev limits in the right place. An additional benefit of this setup is that you can now use a tach made for a twin, which are readily available in a huge assortment of styles.

Thanks Aaron, that was exactly the kind of answer I was looking for! My uncle can get me the SE at a 15% discount from harley, so I'm not really worried about the price. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again!

No worries, mate. By the way, I've got Blast engine configuration experiment #4,416 back together and going on the dyno tomorrow. They make a terrific platform for experimenting because they can be taken apart and put back together so damn quickly. My little Blast has taught me a lot about motors. This experiment is some chamber changes. Tomorrow I'm also going to tune up a 600 Blast we put together for a customer.

1/2-a Harley,

If your currently running a Harley carb and suffering the black smoke stumble, try disconecting the accelerator pump. You might be better off just modifying the Blast carb, as their is no real benefit using the H-D carb, as all the components can be swapped. (Unless you want manual choke).
