As disappointed by the red flag situation as I was, it paled in comparison to the 8-10 bikes mixing it up out front. What exciting racing!

I went downstairs to work on the bathroom remodel during the red flag and they called the race! Missed the whole drama.

On the announcement, we are the biggest collective of Buell and Erik Buell Racing fans anywhere. Share the wealth!

LJM, they actually aired the finish of the race later in the night. 10cst.

While I agree that the short finish was not what the essence of a 200 mile endurance race was meant to be, it was some amazing close racing.

It's also amazing that there wern't more serious injuries....crazy.

trying to follow any motorcycle racing is like trying to follow a lemming as they all run off a cliff.

I want to follow this sport, but MY GOD PEOPLE!!! AMA's website sucks, MotoGP's website sucks, no help at all for those of us just getting started, unless you have a real interest in motorcycle engineering or something, this is a waste of time

MotoGP and them all need like normal names, like Bob, or Joe, even if it's not their real name, i don't care about this crap anymore, motoGP has like what 5-10 races a year??? what the hell is that? that's not a sport, that's a pass time. lame!

AMA has like 500 different f'ing classes, supercross, mx something or other, wtf! sportbike and superbike kinda make sense, i don't know, I'm struggling here, I like watching the racing and the riding, that was good, would love to see more of it, I only saw the recap on Speed's website cause I'm not paying 8 bucks more a month for 1 f'ing channel.

even with the little I've seen, I want more! but damn, this is like trying to eat a porcupine. so far I am very unimpressed with any of the reporting I've seen on any of these races, motoGP, FIM or AMA.

I was going to say to go to a club race, but there are even more classes, so you would just be even more pissed.

haha.

It takes a bit, but you will get it.
And really, the races that are on Speed are usually worth watching.
I have also paid for the online viewing on the MotoGP site in the past and it was great too.

At the breakfast Erik Said he had signed a deal the night before with a Major New York firm for financing. He said production would begin on the first 100 1190rs bikes the first week of April. The base price for the first 100 Carbon Edition bikes would be $39,995 With available options up to about $45,000.Base model won't have all the Carbon and will make about 160HP to the ground. Slip on a pipe and ECM to up it to about 190HP.50 of the 100 are promised overseas so only 50 here in the States. The guys promised to build one for me so that leaves 49.Got to meet and harass Erik and the crew all weekend. You couldn't meet a nicer bunch of Guys. Did I miss anything Court?

PSS Not at the breakfast but in the pits Erik told me another thing that probably won't be good news for 1125 owners. Not ONE piece of the new body work from the 1190 will fit your 1125.

Sorry for all the posts but I keep remembering other stuff.Pretty tough when your a one finger typer. Anyway++++ after the first 100 are built a more affordable model will be available. My guess is what looks like 15 to 20 thousand of suspension will go away but thats OK for a streetbike anyway. Erik is selling the first 100 at a HUGE loss.

My take on the 200; Great to meet with old Buell friends, 2 Canfields and a Buell, AWESOME racing until the red flag, thumbs up to Pat Mooney for his Buell effort in the 200, the 1190 is a VERY sexy bike, spent a very brief moment with Erik, kudos to Dunlap for making an unpopular decision in the name of safety.

It is my understanding Disalvo's crew was allowed to replace the engine because the work on it started before the red flag flew. During the red flag, Dunlop and the AMA mandated a front tire change to the medium compound. Eslick said he lost the front a couple of times before he ultimately crashed. It was explained the delay occurred because Dunslop was having to mount new front tires for a LOT of the teams.

As for a racing experience I'd say overall the 200 was kinda like a bottle rocket that shoots up, but has no report.

I agree the 200 needs to be a stand alone event.

News on the internet is not really facts...
But..
Going on the assumption that E.B.R. has gone trough the wetting process, due diligence and scrutiny to raise financing is:
AN ENORMOUS ACCOMPLISHMENT!

Congratulations.

Private investors and fund managers do not put money on the line just because. The business case needs to be tight.

It big. Really big.

Once this news is confirmed, it's time to break out my best Whiskey and hoist one!

The information was from Erik himself. Court is my witness. I asked Erik if I could purchase STOCK and was told the firm is taking major investors for now but I could probably buy in in a year or so.

I suppose it would have been way more exciting if someone got killed right! Grow the hell up! This track is like no other on the circuit with a surface that is exceptionally hard on tires even the Nascar guys are having tire wear issues. Plus the temps were way warmer than expected and Dunlop had no time to test on this track with this new surface in these temps at these speeds and loads. Should DMG tried to secure more time for testing? sure but I doubt seriously the Car guys would have given up the track long enough too do it.
Dunlop and the AMA made the right call they stopped the race and changed the tires now as for 2 hours to change well lets see they base there tire supply on how many tires that the owners and teams request plus a % for unforeseen issues. they could have just told our privateers to piss off and only used there existing tire supply to equip the front runners and to hell with the rest but hey they paid there fees too race so they were flying in tires from as far as Ga and anywhere else they could get them and using every asset withen reach to retire everyone. Could you imagine trying to re tire all those wheels? Or hey the AMA could have just said screw it lets just pull a NASCAR and say for safety the front runner at the red flag wins! they are trying to convert us all to NASCAR right. What I saw was a group of people with a totally one in a million situation trying to do right by the fans and the racers right down to the guy who drove for 3 days in his pickup with a couple of guys as helpers on there vacation time coming to run Daytona, with no hope of winning but still giving it there all. Yea should have just told that guy hey you did not have the money for all the tires you did not know you needed and we need to go now to make a bunch of guys 5000 miles away who think the US racing community are a bunch of uncouth colonists happy sorry if anyone thinks they could do better in this very weird situation I encourage you to get some investors and step with your own series. Till then I am going to continue to email the AMA with suggestions and Ideas to improve our sport for all levels of racing not just the mega teams.

I have commented about the status of the event and will be posting some more thoughts about it here http://www.davegess.com later today BUT it is a shame that the race has dropped off the world radar; it was well off it long before the new rules. The actual racing now is very good, better than it has been in decades so that is the first step in building it back up. Gotta get Americans to come to bike races than we can worry about the rest of the world. Gotta be able to actually pull off the race during the live national TV slot so there is a bunch of work to be done!

I agree to a point. However I think that to make Daytona an EVENT again you have to attract teams from across the world to a one off non championship event (like the TT). Run classes that riders from outside the US can run in and have bikes already, such as WSS or WSB spec machines rather than AMA spec (If it is a non championship event you can run whatever classes you like right? - again like the TT).
If you start to get the factories interested again then it is feasible that you could attract BIG names which in turn would bring the spectators and sponsors back.

Suzuka manages to get Rossi, Edwards etc to race for factory teams (because the facories view it as a major race for them)so Daytona should be looking at events such as this and the TT as a model instead of trying to turn bike racing into Nascar.

I suppose it would have been way more exciting if someone got killed right! Grow the hell up!

Daytona has been a a banked high speed circuit for as long as I can remember. Tyre companies have gone there every year since the mid 60's and raced on the oval, so they should by now have some idea of what it takes to make a tyre capable of running atelast half of the 200 mile race. Dunlop screwed up big time this year in not having a tyre (of any compound!) capable of running for more than 15 laps, and maybe the AMA screwed up by not ensuring that their nominated tyre supplier had a product capable of lasting their event.
The fact that the 2 hour break was required because there were teams running in a 'Blue Riband' event with no spare wheels and tyres is shocking and something I would expect to come across at the lowest level of club racing, not a major televised showcase event. Surely there must be some kind of minimum standard applied to an event of this size regarding team equipment and logistics?

BSB went through this a few years ago and got rid of the 'man in a van' from the paddock. It wasn't popular at the time with smaller teams but it has lead to a very professional series where everyone has the right level of equipment to race at the top level and provide .

>>>It, to me, just doesn't stack up anymore.

That's motorcycling in general.

The crowds at the races this year looked good but Daytona . . . the whole chaps and halter tops raucousness . . . well, I'd declare that pretty much dead.

Gone are the days of reserving rooms a year in advance and waiting for 2 hours for a table.

Rooms, from the reports we were getting, were readily available and most the restaurants we hit were 50-75% full.

The Harley ship has sailed . . . and at the same time as the economy doubtless took it's toll.

Who knows. The good news is that there is TONS of money and folks interested in racing at the moment.
