Eulysses' defense of (or rationale for) unfettered capitalism is one of the mildest and most accessible I've ever read.

Tying economic freedom to personal liberty grounds it (economic freedom) in something we all treasure.

Is it even necessary to remind ourselves, here near the end of a colossal worldwide bust, that there is a practical limit to the economic freedom a society should allow? Without some limit, there are people who'll exploit the native balance of the free market until that balance is lost. And now we all suffer.

I admire and respect the hardworking folks who run honest businesses; they deserve their rewards.

--> But it is a healthy and vital thing for us, as consumers, to monitor business practices. And part of that examination can certainly be: "What is a fair profit?"

Apologies, Eulysses, if I've mischaracterized your post. Please do correct me.

I do think the market corrects well when profits rise too much. Competition/incentive is the mechanism...at no cost to taxpayer and no government largess to "control fairness" which creates Big Brother. Let the market correct by the consumer going elsewhere or the guy down the street opening another biz. Then competition keeps prices driven down and the consumer wins...and the country wins.

Many say that the free market failed in this recession...which is foolishness to me. The free market is the ONLY creator of wealth. It is the goose that lays the golden eggs and provides incredible standards of living. Government can only take, borrow or print money. They are a liability (and overhead) to a nation. They need to stay small and provide (not promote) for the common defense and promote (not provide) the general welfare. General welfare to me means a good justice system to uphold contract law (so we all can do business) and things like interstate highways...greasing interstate commerce.

This latest largess of greed in the housing bubble was a failure of Congress, not the free market. It was instigated in the 90's when our legal covering (Congress) changed the rules of who could own a home...forcing Fannie and Freddie to take bad paper. There are no "bad" mortgage brokers...because you could sell anything you wrote. It was legal. The rule changes allowed brokers to sell like crazy, opening the door to natural greed. Human nature will naturally go for the gold if it is legal...most will do it. It was failure of liberal congress (our elected protectors) to want to redistribute wealth (power grab for votes)to those who had not properly been prepared to grow and maintain it.

Freedom takes constant attention...because our human nature carries its own seeds of distruction. Wisdom is lacking today. Freedom requires a majority of America to know her heritage and to be a self regulating moral people. If not...we lose our freedoms. Do we care?

Our grade school down the road has a big mural in the lobby as the kids enter. The mural is a design of 4 heroes. John Lennon, Che Guevara, Ghandi and I forget the other one. No George Washington, T. Jefferson...real men who laid down their lives that we might have true liberty. Just the murderers and drug advocates and peace at any cost type dreamers. I suspect our country will stay in decline for a long time. Unless...?

Ok, I will quit! Thanks for listening.

Visit a school lately? I am grieved. Check out the communist leanings of the czars our president has appointed? We are reaping what we sowed. Freedom takes diligent watchfulness. Those who do speak up are marginalized by PC and eliminated. It is a tactic...in Saul Alinsky's book for radical left. Hillary did her Phd thesis on that book.

At some point in time here we will have new G.Washingtons and T.Jeffersons who will lay down their lives again. The unique Tea Party phenomenon is that spirit awakening (not what the left says it is...marginalizing). The militias of the Clinton era were of that spirit.

America is still alive...
Oh...sure like my Buell. Motorcycle topic.

My parts manager tells me that all discounted list Sale items/Buell Accessories are now gone, unavailable, finite', disappeared, no longer, you get the idea…

The only available accessory at this point in time is the 1125 side fairing panels.

Any OEM items from a last model year Buell can be obtained through a special order (lead time unknown), for an unknown period of time…..get your lists together sooner rather than later.

To add to what Dave(~jammer) said, we will continue to support ALL Buells for the duration in Parts and Service.
Common maintenance items will be stocked - plugs, air/oil filters, belts, batteries, tires.

Some other parts will be stocked, depending on demand.
My Parts Manager doesn't like to see things sit on the shelf, so if a particular part moves, it will get stocked.

Conversely, if a part does NOT move, it will be "special order".

If you're within 100 miles of us, stop in, I can almost guarantee you will find it "time well spent".

So, Eulysses,

I disagree with so much of what you've written (the economics/politics) that it makes me think we're not talking about the same society.

Either that, or we (you and I) differ in some fundamental way, maybe as deep as our genetic makeup, and that fundamental difference is rippling up to affect every one of our perceptions.

I'm going to make one more try for common ground, though; something I hope we can agree on:

The blue Ulys are the fastest.

-- fingers crossed ---

"Just the murderers and drug advocates and peace at any cost type dreamers."

Refresh my memory, please... which of those was Gandhi again? Unless I'm mistaken, his objective was independence for India and he achieved it. Sounds fairly G. Washington to me.
