He also brought the head to the front of the bus and started waving it at everyone. Nice fella. |

phatkidwit1eye, true that but I said "could've" not "would've". Knives are brutal and deadly even in unskilled hands. Someone with a gun may have given the victim slightly better odds of survival. |

"The only good the death penalty would do in this situation is satisfy the need for retribution for the victims survivors and society as a whole. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just that it wouldn't have prevented the crime." I've never considered the death penalty a deterrent measure... it's more of an insurance policy that guarantees the guy doesn't get to commit the crime again. Which is more than you can say for "therapy". ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on August 05, 2008) |

Maybe the "victim" had it coming and we should be treating this hero as such... |

Skin - huh? Latest news - the guy is clearly out of his skull. He asked the judge to "plase kill him" during his arraignment. |

"I've never considered the death penalty a deterrent measure." Me, either. I think the deeply-ingrained fear of big-house sodomy has kept me on the right side of the law in most cases. Death? Yeah, sure- whatever... gimme all your cash. Anal penetration? forget it, I'm walking the straight and narrow. |

Gohot - I appreciate your patriotism, but... This guy was Chinese, not Muslim. And it took place in Canada, not the U.S. |

LOL, Muslim is religious term, not a racial one. He could be Chinese and Muslim at the same time. Or not. Now CRAZY, that transcends both religion and race! ~SM |

Unless I missed it in the article, there was no mention of the perps religious leanings... Nope, just re-read it, no mention at all. In fact, the original article doesn't even give a name of the perp, or the victim. What makes you think the perp was Muslim? And yeah, it didn't happen in the US.. it happened in Canada, and I don't think they have a death penalty there.. but I could be wrong. |

And I think the Canadian gun laws are strict. So leaves to the reason why maybe no one was armed on the bus. The guy that was murdered had no chance it seems by the report. but the other passengers would have been able to change some of what happened if they or 1 person were armed. This could happen here in the states, unfortunately not everyone here is armed. The worse our economy gets so will the crime and violence. Sad |

If this happened in Texas, the outlook would have been different for the victim. |

You beat me to the punch Donut. I was about to say the same thing. There's a real chance down here in Texas the only govt. agency that would have incurred significant expense to resolve the issue would have been the county medical examiner instead of the court system and penal system. This is the type of stuff that makes me thankful for CCL's. |

Hey man, I was just looking at it from another angle. I wasn't there and have ZERO trust in the media. Aparently this guy is a nut. I hate to grant murderers wishes, but, in this case I would. |

"A good hanging is good for morale". The death penalty may not be a good deterrent when the accused is sheltered for 20 years then quietly whisked away, after everyone has forgotten what he/she has done but put them on the court house square and don't think people won't remember that the next time they think about rustlin' horses. I've lived through this first hand, well, not a decapitation but my wife's cousin got up one morning years ago, shot is family and held his high school class hostage. When you're 18 years old and spend the next 25+ years of your life in the penal system, how on God's green earth would you ever acclimate to regular life? And the first quote is not mine, I've heard it for years though and tend to agree with it. |

I've been following this story since it hit and it is indeed sad. This Li character has a history of unstable behavior, and came over from China about four years ago. Since he's a landed immigrant, they cant just deport him back home, which, given the Chinese judicial system, would be the quickest and most effective way of dealing with someone like that. As for what happened on the bus, most of it's passengers probably were paying little attention; anyone in front of the occurrence would have been looking ahead, and most who were behind would only see the back of the seat in front of them. This would have left four or five passengers with a clear line of sight, and even if someone would have stepped in immediately, the wack job would have probably fatally wounded the victim anyway. But who gets on a bus thinking something like this could even happen? There is no way of knowing who the next ticking time bomb will be, and this is a tragic and horrible story, one that plays itself out somewhere, every day, separate from religion or race or culture. Some people are just f*cked, and no one is to blame for their actions. My deepest sympathy goes out to the victim's loved ones. The perpetrator, he can go to hell. |

-just reviewed the Williams story...I have yet to know what it feels like to be a father...but spending a few years in our penal system for a multiple homicide sounds better to me than seeing what a lawyer would be able to get them out of...even if it wouldn't be much. I would want my child to know that she would NEVER have to worry about those worthless individuals ever stepping foot in her general direction again. -rant off. I have no idea how I would feel if I had to be in a situation such as the Williams. |

I was more outraged by the premeditated actions of this group, then I was by that of the psycho-lobber on the bus. had the heat not been tipped off, Megan Williams would likely have been killed finally, as well. That was the perps' plan. That being said, I'm shocked there was no outrage over this crime, with the "...rebel flag and load my iron..." set. What does this really say about us, as people? |

I'm with you Buellerandy, I have said many times before that if I was on the jury of a man who protected his children from that kind of injustice I'd vote for shaking his hand and letting him walk. If ANYONE ever did something like that to my family the law better pick me up first. I'd gladly do time to protect my babies. That premeditated stuff is just way beyond my ability to comprehend, and his mother in on it too. Demented. |

Take it easy with that logic Trampster. I suggest you read about Channon Christian and Chris Newsom before throwing the "I wonder, had Megan been white, and her attackers black, how long of a thread we'd read about volunteering to perform the lynchings" statements out there. I bet your never heard of the story of the 2 that I mentioned, did ya? No outrage on their story was there? Not many even heard about it, no even in their own state. That last statement you made is pure BS. |
