I thought the new Kawasaki 14, and even the Busa before that, were capable of clearing 200mph?

Maybe, maybe not
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?Ar ticleID=3504&Page=5

Both ran to the high 180s with the speedo indicating 200+ mph.

It's great to see a bike manufacturer promoting irresponsible top speed.

The Hyabusa is Governed at 184 and the Kawi 14 is governed at 186.

Take the govern off and they're capable of some more, put exhaust, intake, and a PC in there and they're capable of over 200.

I think that MV looks cool as hell!

I'd take the governor off just for GP. I don't appreciate such meddlin'. Still, any bike that breaks 100mph is fast enough for me.

Pre 2000 Hayabusa's have been recorded at speeds over 190mph. MCN tested a Busa amid all the 200mph hype, and they hit 194mph out of the box.

For me, if top speed is the be all and end all of fastest production bike a ZX14 can't claim that title no matter how it performs today against a current Busa or anything else until a ZX14 actually is recorded as faster than some pre 2000 Busa's were.

Why even put govenors on them? There is no difference between 186 and 200...

I think that the MV Agusta is being billed as the fastest 1000cc bike in the world.

"I think that the MV Agusta is being billed as the fastest 1000cc bike in the world."

Ah, that would make more sense.

Rice, that thing looks like one of the cantina aliens from Star Wars.

ya, it does have an odd alien look to it from the front. it sure does move though.

you crank the throttle on it and the faster it goes the harder it pulls and the faster it goes. it just keeps building for as long as you want to hold the throttle!

i so want to take it to the salt flats!

Importing purposes. Just like gas milage, our government charges taxes (for lack of better terms) for the faster the machine is (or worse the gas milage is).

186mph was offered up voluntarily by the Japanese big four after the 200mph Busa \ ZX12 top speed claims came under the spotlight of Eurocrats, who were all for introducing power capping levels.

Rocket's right, as I recall Germany had a 100hp limit, ( drove the builders nuts ) and it got lobbied/negotiated to a "voluntary" 300kph? limit. Is that right, Rocket? I may be wrong on that one.

That bike was featured in "Torque." Jay Leno has one in his collection. One neat thing about it is the built-in "Tail-gater Repellant." If a car follows too closely, the hot exhaust gases from the turbine engine WILL melt plastic and aluminum...

I know there's no law against speed. So it's entirely voluntary by the manufacturer, but the way it was told to me is that they are charged (by the government upon importing) more for the faster the bike is.

So they Voluntarily govern the speed, to avoid being charged more money to import it.

That's absolutely not the case in Europe. Yes, 186 mph is a voluntary limit set by manufacturers. It is 186mph because 186 mph is a fraction under 300 kph - NOT actually 300 kph

Yes, I could very well be wrong also, as I cannot remember where I even heard/read that.

Anyway, 194mph out of a 1000cc is just awesome.
